"A song without words by a group without instruments." BTW, Avi was actually trained as an opera singer. He already had an offer from an opera company at the time he was tapped for Pentatonix.

This was a Tchaikovsky piece from the Nutcracker ballet. What I loved in this was a breakdown in the last third of the piece that was like a classical development section in a first movement of a symphony-just incredible!

Hard to believe they won a Grammy for this. So happy for them to get recognized for the hard work put in to make this happen. Like Midas...everything they touch turns to gold. Grammy gold this time. If you haven't already reacted to Carol Of The Bells. This is spectacular!! I swear Mitch never takes a breath. He proves he's an alien 👽. You watch and see if you can find where he breathes. This video is what? 14 years old? They're second grammy. Now here we are over a decade later, they have a new bass singer (now however he's been with ptx longer than avi, I THINK. or very close to it). And since Matt, another Grammy and nominated for a 4th and 5th. They never lost a step.

The original song is played in a major key, often with sharp bells, making it light and cheerful. This version is sung in a minor key with drawn out mellow tones turning it less Christmas and more Halloween. It's amazing how so few changes can completely alter the dynamics of a song.

Tchaikovsky wrote this in1891/1892 and it later became the famous nutcracker ballet, popular at Christmas.

Trained as a basso profundo and had been offered a position with the Los Angeles Opera when he was recruited into PTX by Ben Bram and Scott. And Avi was apparently the one who brought the idea of "Dance" to the group.

Great talent to reproduce this music by an orchestra only song with no instruments. Perhaps for your lack of enthusiasm so early in the day - you will have this song playing in your head all day. lol I have to admit, I prefer to hear them singing actual words but I still totally appreciate their accuracy in creating this piece of music with vocal notes and sounds. It’s still fun to listen to.
