Poland, and specially Warszawa, has a whole history of their own. I was there a few years ago and I cannot even begin to understand all the sacrifice they have done through the years, decades and centuries. The WWII especially. "women, men and children were fighting side by side" always get me, because that is how it was. Now Poland takes a HUGE responsibility to Ukraine refugees. Got nothing but respect for Poland and Warszawa in special. Edit: That the west and specially Russia let Germany have their way before interrupting is a timeless shame for everyone. Take one of the walking tours if you'll visit - just a tip. 😊 Greetings from Sweden.

Such statements give us strength and strengthen our spirit, and at the same time give us joy. History is important, people forget quickly. It is important to remember and tell new generations so that it never happens again. Thanks to such songs one sees oneself and the world around them differently.

Well, some of the Allies tried to help at least, but the USSR stopped it, literally shooting at the planes that tried apparently! Admittedly, it was pretty ineffective, but to say we all completely turned away is a little harsh. It's more deserved AFTER the Soviets took over Poland though. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Warsaw_airlift

@danielkarlsson258 well, talking about ruining the country, Germans definitely did the most damage in WW II but the second place goes to...Sweden between 1655-1660. Thanks to the policy of Swedish king who was afraid of retaliation and ordered to eliminate every single Pole, 40% of population was killed including 90% of Warsavians (20 000 before and 2 000 after the Swedish campaign). Not to mention our robbed treasures -still in Sweden, you can see Polish statues, regal jewels in Stockholm royal residence

Sabaton have a trick for heating the crowd by playing a song related to the history of the country where their show takes place: in Poland '40:1' and 'Uprising', in France 'Fields of Verdun', in Russia 'Night witches' and 'Defense of Moscow', in US 'Devil dogs', in Belgium 'Resist and bite', etc.

Sad part about this chapter of history is that Red Army was ordered to halt their advance and wait for the uprising to get crushed first before marching in to "liberate" Warsaw so that Poland would not have liberated itself and they would be firmly under soviet control. They did the same thing with Prague uprising

Well, despite the fact, that allied forces are often portraied as the heroes, world leaders during that time were all assholes. WW1 and WW2 can be summarized as millions of young men giving their lives for greedy, bitter and hateful politicians. Those were truly dark and sad years for humankind.

@@ilsgrade8357 Yeah, The British were imperialists, Americans were nazis before the nazis, atrocities caused by soviets to their own people were matched only by third reich or Japan's unit 731 and broken pride of French is what laid groundwork in Versailles for all that happened. The more one digs into it, the less black and white it is. By the way, while other Axis governments consisted of extremists, Tojo's party was actually considered moderate in Japan's politics. Its scary to imagine what extremist Japan would look like

August 1st, 1944 the city rises up against the Nazi occupiers. They fought street to street but Hitler in retaliation ordered the city leveled. "And the allies turned away" the Soviet army was relatively close but stopped. They let those who would resist Soviet rule get gunned down leaving more Soviet puppets in place. Poland resisted as she has always resisted. Every August 1st the city stops for 1 full minute to observe a moment of silence.

You've got to understand something Sabatons song about Poland hold a special place in our hearts for us Poles, nobody talks about our history outside of Poland despite the wealth of history that there is, our has been derided and dragged through the mud so much so that what most people only know is that we got invaded in 1939 which kicked off WWII and that's it. The fact that we've had people like Chopin (famous composer), Copernicus (the driving force behind the heliocentric model for the solar system), Kościuszko (the founder/builder of West Point, Revolutionary War vet and personal friend to Washington and Jefferson), Pulaski (the father of the American cavalry and fellow Revolutionary War vet), Kwolek (inventor of kevlar), Skłodowska-Curie (discoverer of radium and polonium), Zamenhof (creator of the language Esperanto), Łukasiewicz (inventor of oil well, oil refinery, kerosene lamp, and modern streetlight), Koprowski (inventor of the first live polio vaccine), Sabin (inventor of the oral polio vaccine), Tramiel (founder/inventor of Commodore computers), Malinkiewicz (inventor of printed solar cells) just to name a few among our ranks. Or the we had the first semi democratic monarchy in Europe with elected kings, the first constitution in Europe, saved Vienna and by extension western Europe from further Ottoman conquest, saved Europe again in 1919-21 from the soviets and further spread of communism for a extra 20 years, a single Polish destroyer saving a British town from a German bombing raid, another Polish destroyer duking it out with the Bismark causing them to expend a majority of their ammo before it was finally sunk, heavily contributing to Royal Air Forces ability to repel the Germans during the Battle of Britain, heavily contributing to breaking the German Enigma code etc. you get the point. So Sabatons songs like Uprising, 40:1, Winged Hussars and Inmate 4859 help facilitate spreading knowledge of Poland's history to the greater world who know nothing of it and that is why Sabaton is so beloved in Poland and why you see reactions like that from the crowd anytime they play there.

During Uprising almost 90% city was completely damaged. Germans killed 150-200 thousands civiloan people, specially on Wola, part of Warsaw. My uncle after uprising was send to the camp in Pruszków, with family his run from this deadly place. Many civilian people from pruszków was send to the Aushwitz. He was live until 1982.

This is not their current Drummer (Hannes Van Dahl, which is married to Floor), I must admit I cannot remember the name of the drummer at the time.

A few minutes ago we had 79. th anniversart of begining this heroic, however tragic uprising, which ended with 200,000 civilian casualties and 17,000 killed insurgents and 19 000 of Germans, and all city was devastated in 80%. This uprising lasted 63 days, and Polish people fight without great support of alliance. I am not going to judge this, bacuase who the hell am i to judge decision of people, who lived in this fucked up times, which was World War II. But the most important is to tdraw conclusions, that this tragedy never happens again. The more so that in Poland we are brought up in the cult of the Armia Krajowa (AK) and we practically never criticize it, which unfortunately does not bode well for us.

The people of Poland have the uncanny ability to be completely outnumbered and still almost win the battle. Siege of Vienna, the invasion of Poland in 1939 where they were outnumbered at least 40:1 and only lost when they ran out of ammo and then in warsaw uprising where they only lost due to soviets stopped advancing. Not to mention those polish that were able to escape to uk and continued to fight, knowing the only way to free Poland was with uk and usa help. Sabaton also has songs about Vienna and defense against Germany. Winged hussars and 40:1
