Great first reaction to a great live performance. Thanks! This was the final encore to close the New Year Fox Festival 2015 concert. And it was so awesome that they made this official "music video" with both visuals and sound live. And that is pretty much unusual because record labels like to put the studio version over the visuals even if it's from a live concert. They just cut out some of the "WE ARE?... Fun reaction! Babymetal really means the birth of new metal, as they are the pioneers of a genre called kawaii (cute) metal that they started in 2010, at the ages of 11-12, while part of a larger j-pop group called Sakura Gakuin. It was initially just an experiment by their producer, Koba-metal, but became very popular in Japan and within a few years became an independent group. In 2014 they set off on their first world tour and quickly became known throughout the world as a top-level live act that put on a show like no other. In 2016 they performed at the Tokyo Dome arena and sold out 55,000 seats, two nights in a row. Now more than 10 years later they are still going strong, although Covid has certainly hurt their ability to perform live outside of Japan. I look forward to you exploring more of their material in the future, as no two songs in their catalog are the same, which is just another unique aspect to the band.

Good first reaction and welcome to the BABYMETAL Galaxy. This was at Saitama Super Arena in 2015 with a crowd of over 20,000 people - and all of them under the complete control of the girls. Su-metal, the lead singer, was just 17. Yuimetal and Moametal, who provide backing vocals, harmonies and lead the crowd with their choreo (and they have bespoke choreo for every song), were both 15. Su is 23 now, Moa and Yui are 22. Sadly Yui left the band in October 2018 for undisclosed health reasons after a 12 month absence. Their name 'BABYMETAL' is not about their age (although when they started in 2010 they were aged 12 and 11 so it probably did play a part too). The name was chosen for two reasons: - to symbolize that they gave birth to a new genre of metal music (kawaii metal) - because the writing (and pronunciation) in Japanese is nearly identical to the writing of "heavy metal" (and they love a pun): BABYMETAL = ベビメタル (be-bi-me-ta-ru) heavy metal = ヘビメタル (he-bi-me-ta-ru) Su, Moa and Yui are vocalists and dancers, Su is one of the very best front people for any band and they have the very best musicians supporting them. Moa has appeared on stage with a guitar a couple of times, but only very special occasions, and Su may have played a few notes on the piano in a couple of recent shows, but that is not their focus. The backing band for all their live shows since early in 2014 (and for some festivals and the encores in some shows since October 2012) are the Kami Band. Kami means god or spirit, so they are the gods of guitar, bass and drums sent to support BABYMETAL. In real life they are some of the very best session musicians in Japan and they can play anything. At this show they were Leda Cygnus and Takayoshi Ohmura on guitars, BOH on bass and Hideki Aoyama on drums. BABYMETAL have 3 albums, about 50 songs, and every song is different. They are also one of the very best live bands in the world - and have won awards from international publications etc to show that is not just my opinion. I'm sure you will get a lot of recommendations for more songs ... pick anything, ideally live performances, and you won't be disappointed.

The lead singer Su-metal (Suzuka Nakamoto) had just turned 17 a couple of weeks before this January 10th, 2015 concert. Yuimetal (Yui Mizuno) and Moametal (Moa Kikuchi) were 15. Su is about a year-and-a-half older than the other two. BABYMETAL believe that if a song sounds too much like one genre, then it's not a BABYMETAL song. You can definitely feel the speed metal component in this one though. This performance was at Saitama Super Arena (SSA) with a sold out crowd of over 20,000. Su first appeared at SSA in 2008 as a member of the J-Pop trio Karen Girl's, when she was 10 years old. She's been back many times since, headlining with BABYMETAL, as well as opening for 'Guns 'n' Roses a few years ago. The drummer was Hideki Aoyama. Hideki's father and brother were also drummers, so it's kind of in his blood. The other current Kami Band drummer, Anthony Barone, is phenomenal as well. He used to play with the Metal band 'Shadow of Intent'.
