If you like harmonica in rock songs , you will be blown away with "GRAND FUNK RAILROAD's "INSIDE LOOKIN OUT" live in 1969. Best live performance on KZfaq. I've been listening to Sabbath ,, Grand Funk, and YES, and of course The Beatles and all the bands inbetween.. These are best of the best. Have a good day and God Bless. Ozzy does a good job with the harmonica. They started out as a blues band, and that shines through on the music off their first album. This is the only song from Sabbath with harmonica in it(until their last album from 2013, in the song "Damaged Soul").

That's too bad they don't have much more with harmonica but it is fantastic and I agree he does a great job. Good info. I think I'll like their first album if it has touches of the blues throughout.

I’m surprised I haven’t heard this beat in a hip hop track. The groove is HARD. I actually like Black Sabbath for their swing on the blues. And early Led Zeppelin.

Ozzy has played harmonica on several songs. He also plays the jaw harp on sleeping village.

when Sabbath were starting out Bill Ward picked up, and used, the broken drumsticks that the previous drummers discarded. Black Sabbath bassist and lyricist Geezer Butler said the song's lyrics were influenced by the wizard Gandalf from The Lord of the Rings. Listen to "Supernaut"

Thanks for reacting to this one.Yes this is the only song that Ozzy use the harmonica.Kinda like Bon Scott of AC/DC.He played bagpipes only in It's a Long Way to the Top (If You Wanna Rock and Roll) And yes your correct.The wizard is a drug dealer.I was going to link the video but couldn't find it.I haven't seen the video of Ozzy it in for years so I'm just going of memory.For what I remember Ozzy was walking down the street with one of the members of the band.Suddenly this guy jumped out of the bush and scared them.He was trying to sell them some illegal substance.He didn't say what kinda drug it was.But i'm pretty sure it was something heavy the way Ozzy describe the guy.

some say the Wizard is inspired by Gandalf from Token's work. this was a trend back then with Led Zeppelin pulling the most from the books.

Sabbath started out as a Blues band, and they retained that influence even after they developed their signature "sound". In fact, before "Heavy Metal" became the universally accepted term for this kind of music, bands like Sabbath we're described variously as "Downer Rock" and "Atomic Blues". I wish the latter term had stuck.

love you guys. real honest folk giving real honest opinions. you have stumbled onto the greatest metal/classic band of all time. they set the foundation for heavy metal rockers continuing today. the musicians in this band are tops and i believe they never really got the credit they deserve back then. i have been a fan since 1969/70 and never looked back. some of the stuff after ozzie and bill was good but its not totally sabbath without those two....but i love tony and geezer. try listening to symptom of the universe studio version and behold the true greatness of this band.

You have a whole bunch of Sabbath to check out... both with the Ozman & Dio. Fully explore Sabbath's catalogue before moving on to Led Zep & Deep Purple. Give those three a solid and thorough exploration. Then start on Pink Floyd. Lots of other great stuff to react to, but check out these bands first. Wammer Jammer (J. Geils) is one of the better harmonica songs I know of.
