Prince didn't write Stand Back, Stevie wrote Stand Back on her honeymoon, and while she was in the studio recording Stand Back she phoned Prince and asked him to come listen to the song since Stand Back was heavily inspired from Prince song Little Red Corvette, that was just released at that time, Prince came to the studio, listened to Stand Back and thought that the song was cool, but he added a synth sound to the track and left. Also Lindsay was only asked to join Fleetwood Mac after Bob Welch was fired from the band, and Lindsay would only join Fleetwood Mac if they accepted Stevie as well, so it was eventually up to Christine to decide, and she liked Stevie and they join Fleetwood Mac and the rest is history... I think I explained it right... I've been a fan since Belladonna era.

I have mixed feelings about this video, because this is a version of the group without Lindsey. It took TWO guitarists to replace Lindsey; that's how amazing he was on the guitar..

I was finishing college around 1976, I spent my twenties in the 70's and there were barely any solid country music stations, most of that style of music was not even crossing over into the rock and pop world, occasionally yes, but that was rare. All the stations that played Fleetwood Mac were mainstream and played rock. We had been listening to Fleetwood Mac for years before Stevie Nicks/Lindsey Buckingham joined and when they did and their first album together came out, everyone was stunned at how good it was, you could not turn on a radio for 10 minutes without hearing one of their songs. When country music became more listened to it changed from what it had been for years to more what you hear today, which is it became more of a pop style. Trust me, listen to any country music from the 50's/60's and most of the 70's and country was 'real' country. It began changing into what most country is of today, which is mostly pop style. I would suggest that could be how you might call Fleetwood Mac music 'country', but trust me, the self-titled Fleetwood Mac album with Stevie/Lindsey and the follow up Rumour's album to most of us is nowhere close to being country. The band is and always will be a rock band. Maybe if you were to listen to more of their content, you might understand why we feel this way. You should probably listen to some country music from the same era, and you would hear with your own ears that no way is their music 'country'.

If I remember correctly, Stevie Nicks had the nickname "the White Witch". At least that's what I heard Grace Slick call her in a documentary once.

While this is certainly a good live version, it's no where near as great as the recorded version on the "Rumours" album. This is a prime example of "less is more", where Lindsey's guitar matches the intended mood of the song much better than that of Rick Vito and Billy Burnette with so many embellishments. Same with the addition of Stevie's back-up singers being added by the time this was made. In the original, there's a feeling of loneliness that fits the song so much better. Also, the original ending is missing...part of what makes the song so special. It's supposed to convey the feelings Stevie felt living the Rock n' Roll lifestyle and how it had taken over her life. Please, PLEASE, listen to the studio version.

There are better versions of Gold Dust Woman. During the 80’s she went on a solo tour and her and Mick did a few dates. This is from that time, more glam and drugs than solid Stevie. The studio concert taped on the Warner Bros lot is the best for live versions. They’re mature and the sound is grounded

The song you are talking about is "The Chain." It starts with "Listen to the wind blow, watch the sun rise, run in the shadows,. damn your love, damn your lies." Pretty good intro to a badass song.

That's not Lindsay Buckingham in that performance. In fact, Stevie looks like she did during her solo career. I also see her backup singers too. But the rest of the band is there.

Fleetwood Mac would never be considered ' Country' they are more Earthy Rock' or Classic rock.

The “Take your silver spoon and dig your grave” line refers towards the copious amounts of cocaine that the band was indulging in, and some emotional venom shared by thefts uples as Stevie had been having an affair with Mick Fleetwood after Lindsey wouldn’t commit to Stevie, and was dippin his toes in some other womans pool. Lindey seems to have issues with the reactors and is the he cause of HIS songs being used by wny reactors. But Stevie welcomes the extra attention, so when you want the do studio cut reactions, avoid Lndsey’stunes to avoid the blocking of your video

Fine reaction to one of the finest bands that owned the radio stations back in the 70s. You should give prog a listen and a band called YES and a song called Roundabout off the Fragile album. 🙏🎶 I've been dancing to Roundabout for 53yrs.

A hidden gem from the Fleetwood Mac discography is "That's Alright" from the Mirage album which is a country song Stevie wrote before joining (previous title was "Designs of Love"

Versions with both Lindsey and Christine as the only additional singers harmonizing are much better and more true to the sound of the song.

Growing up with parents who listened to that ole country and me listening to this, NOT the same vibe at all or age bracket! I think that made a big difference, the age thing, for me anyway! I would never listen to country, and my parents would never listen to what I was into! Back in the day we didn't focus so much on genre, it was more the vibe, sound and crowd! You had to be there to truly understand the time! I don't know how better to describe it! Love and respect that "Tasha" I'm assuming, knows the lyrics to " The Chain"!

this live video is taking place in the aftermath of the recording of the album 'tango in the night', when buckingham left the band after refusing to tour the album. he is not on stage here. nicks was in treatment for alcoholism and had physically attacked buckingham when he announced he was leaving. fun stuff, huh? :/

The Bob Welch era bridged the gap between the earlier Peter Greene blues rock Fleetwood Mac and the later Buckingham Nick's era. Although less known it is great as well. "Mystified" is a great Bob Welch song and a good starting point. Their later era sound had already been established before Bob left.

I had a weird encounter with a guy that claimed to be a roadie for Stevie. We were just making small talk about what we did for work. He said before she went on stage she would go into a sound isolation box and he would get her out to preform. He said she really believed she was a witch. I have no idea if it was true, but the guy just started telling me about her like he knew her.

Alright, let me help ya out since I'm a Gen Xer and Stevie will always be the Queen of Rock and a living legend. You're hearing a bit of ''country'' because Stevie's grandfather was a country singer and taught her to sing from age 5. If you listen to ''After the Glitter Fades'', for example, you'll hear that country influence. Fleetwood Mac, however, was never even close to sounding country. Peter Green, The Green God, was the original frontman then another after he left etc. But, the band was always more Blues back in that day. Once the band lost the next frontman and the guitarist, they left the UK for California. While looking for a new guitarist, they heard the Buckingham Nicks album at the studio. Mick Fleetwood loved Lindsay's playing and the rest is history. By the way, Prince did not write ''Stand Back'' but he went straight to the studio when Stevie called him and he helped compose some of the music on the piano.

if you compare the country music of back at the time of Fleetwood Mac hits came out I think you would change your mind on them sounding country . A decade or so later country artists gravitated more toward Fleetwood Mac' s sound and music . I suppose if you were around back then you would understand but Fleetwood Mac didn't sound anything like country . Just like some young people now say the Eagles sounded like country on some songs but I think they're comparing to country music of today to Eagles of the 70's . Hope this helps you possibly understand .
