Had my friend's 8 yr old son in my car and I was playing this song. Now I catch him walking around singing this chorus. Brings a smile to my face. Love this song.

james were part of the uk indie movment in the 90's along with other great bands like the charlatans, the inspiral carpits, the happy mondays and the stone roses. maby have a look at these bands.

I’m from Manchester and I’ve loved this band across 5 decades!! Seen them a number of times. Can anyone remember them playing the rooftop gig in Piccadilly Gardens in 1991?

The actual meaning of the song is more to do with the band, they have been screwed around by many record companies over the years but still remain relevant and successful that they were "Getting Away With It, All messed Up", which is strange as I feel this is the song of my life.. Also the actual vid for this songs is pretty neat but as my comment is over 1 year late, no one will read it. So, I dry my own POOP and then smoke it, I also sell to kids who think it's weed. I put my trash in other peoples bins, even if they are full, especially alcohol bottles, but I am "Getting Away with it, All Messed UP", see you on Saturn :) oh, I have the album and also the DVD of this performance which was in Manchester and James last live performance (they did get back together) also to note the lead singer "Tim Booth" was in Batman Begins as Victor Zsasz. I need to stop editing this comment, so high on my Poop right now.. I think I may have Shit for Brains..
