Just keep it under 6000 rpm. It would have done both of you a lot more service to have started with 250s. You would've learned a lot faster on 250s. While you baby your 600s, this guy will learn to push his 125 harder and learn a lot faster.

steven martin just got my first bike literally today. Actually I bought it this past Sunday after I passed my MSF course but I got a 2019 used Harley Street Bob with only 88 miles on it. Just took it out for the first time today and it was exhilarating! I only rode slow speed around my neighborhood (max was 40MPH) but now I want to take it out on some of the back roads! I am just concerned with riding safe and staying alive!

Hey wolfie ! Quick advice on your gear shifting; before you shit cut the throttle, pull the clutch and THEN shift. That's how it's usually done and it will not rev anymore when you're shifting up or down.

i loved this video, i rode on the street with no prior practice today on a 900cc, never rode a bike before. I felt the same way. I survived didnt drop it and never went beyond second gear. I did have a problem when i stopped on a steep hill and figuring out how to start on a hill with rear brake, that was a sketchy for a noob! Franbkly I don't recommend it but I am enjoying the challenge.

You don't outgrow a motorcycle until you have mastered it. And mastering it does not mean that it does not scare you. lol. It means you can throw that bike around under any circumstance and it will obey. It means you are skilled in emergency stops, skids, evasive maneuvers, counter-steering, etc.. It should take you two years to master that first bike. Not a month. After a month you still have no idea how to actually ride a bike. So going to a bigger bike is just asking for trouble.

Yes I agree. I just bought a 350 meteor Royal enfield one week ago. I rode a 150 cc school last year but 15 years since riding on a gear/clutch motorcycle. I’ll tell you, it takes a lot of practice for me anyway. I’ve been in the parking lot twice a day in the last week but also regular traffic getting to the parking lot. With each passing day my confidence is growing as I perfect turning figure 8s and stopping. It’s amazing how you start to become one with your bike.

I enjoyed your first video so much that I had to come back to watch the 2nd 😅😊. Too bad I'm 6 years late watching it "new"😂. These videos reminded me of the first time I rode in traffic/on public roads. I was in the same boat with buying my very first bike from the dealership (2015 Honda CB500F), and had to ride it home with being the very first time I ever rode on the public roads/in traffic. I avoided the interstate and took the boulevard, of course 😂. I felt exactly how you did the first time (I felt exposed, excited, and nervous at the same time). Needless to say, I made it home safe and have never dumped my CB500F with 20,000+ miles on. I also agreed with you that our first bikes had plenty enough power for the rider status we were in at that time. Come to think of it, my Honda CB500F STILL has enough power for daily riding and having tons of fun on her. I did upgrade to a 2023 Kawasaki Zx6r last year, but I still love my CB500F, which is still sitting in the garage today. I can't see selling her for the measly blue book value of $3100. Id rather keep it for a backup bike for 3 grand. By the way, hitting the horn by accident, on a dang Honda is normal 😂. Honda made that dang horn button so big that its almost impossible not to press it everytime you use a turn signal 🙈🙉🙊. I still hit the horn on accident, all the time, years later, because the button is so big and sticks out like a sore thumb😂 😉🤦🏽‍♂️.

If you're making a left turn, always go into the corresponding lane, or the lane closest to you if turning from a single lane. Otherwise someone across from you making a sudden right can cause a close call.

Im no expert in riding, but what i found was if you put a bit for pressure on the before you shift it allowed me to shift a little bit faster. Also double blipping the throttle allowed me to rev match a little better in the beginning when down shifting, dont do that for up shifting though.

I'll tell you bro that if you started on a 600rr... from that dealership you would have had a TERRIFYING, uncomfortable, jerky, twitchy HEINOUS ride from HELL home! at 9000rpm on a 600rr it's just getting into it's power band and it would've been SCREAMING and very overwhelming. it's so good that you started on this, where the power is super easy to control and you don't have to worry so much about anything 'snappy' happening! this actually looks like a blast!!! you're doing good, even though i know you're prolly WAY past this part now...

That gonna be a problem...

I'm fine downshifting until i hit lower gears as the bike will lock up back wheel if you're going to fast in a lower gear. He makes me so nervous coming in hot to turns and lights. I can hear he's holding the clutch and braking instead of staying in gear and braking or down shifting , but i think he's nervous to use the front brake properly. Being in neutral going that fast without engine braking helping while using the brake is so sketchy

So the dealer you purchased the bike from.... did you tell them it’s your first time out? Didn’t they even have the common courtesy to go over basics with you. And before anyone chimes in saying, “that’s not their job” they are not doing the motorcycling community or their business any favors by not giving a noob some pointers about the bike or riding in general. There’s a way to do it without insulting the customer.
