Tim Conway was famous for making the others break character and laugh during these skits.

Tim (the dentist) was constantly able to get the others to break character. Don't know if you've seen it or not but the Carol Burnett skit "The Elephant Story" is not only roll on the floor crazy laughing but shows just how hard it was to always stay in character around him. Harvey (the patient) admitted some time later that Tim had him laughing so hard that he wet himself. They don't make shows like this anymore and the world - in my opinion - is much more sad for it.

This is one of the funniest skits. I grew up watching the Carol Burnett show. Tim Conway was my favorite. He would change & improvise the skits & get everyone to crack up. They did the show live, so whatever direction Tim would take it, they had to just go along with it & hope for the best.

The Carol Burnett Show has some of the greatest comedy skits you will ever see. Tim Conway was one of the premier trolls of all time. He would run through practice for skits perfectly and then mess with the entire cast during the live taping of the show by adding some of the most obnoxious things and changing lines and making the others break character! 😂 He and Harvey were absolutely dangerous together because you always knew Tim was gonna make Harvey lose it. 😂 Btw, Tim Conway was the voice actor for Barnacle Boy on SpongeBob.

The elephant story while they are playing cards on the sofa is one of the funniest crack ups of an entire cast I have ever watched, enjoy❤

I'm 60 so I grew up watching this show with my family every week. LOVED it! You'd love tim doing the old man skits! Those will make you choke, cry, can't BREATHE laugh with tears streaming down your face! 😂😂😂

While the Elephant story is a must-see, I'll also suggest the skit where they play the board game "Sorry". Carol (as Eunice) has a lot of trouble staying in character when Vicki Lawrence (as Mama) lays into her.

There are SO many skits with him that are just as hilarious and he goes off script, the others who are with him have such a hard time keeping a straight face... you should look up the one with the elephant story... you'll be on the floor laughing as you watch the others trying not to laugh and break character. - just make sure you have a drink nearby in case you start coughing again!

The Show was always live & Harvey was said to be the hardest to break, Conway made it his mission to make him crack anytime they worked together. The Carol Burnet show ran for 11 seasons starting in 68-69 until 1980 Conway would be at home board & would just show up, never asking for pay he only wanted to make the cast break character. Finally by season 8-9 did he become a regular cast member

They would do dress rehearsals before the live show and Tim would mostly keep to the script but when they did the live show no one ever knew what Tim was going to do. If you watch the elephant story blooper the elephant story was supposed to be cut due to time or something like that but Tim decided to do it anyway. Also remember the era this took place in, the 70’s when there were still censors and strict language and subject restrictions. It wasn’t as bad as the 50’s but compared to today it might as well have been the 50’s.

I've had several toothaches and it's terrible. The worst one was an abscessed tooth when I was a teen. The whole side of my face throbbed 24/7. Pain medication didn't even numb it.

This show is my favorite tv show of all time. They were funny then and these skits are still funny today. They were brilliant.

Carol Burnett show was just funny, hysterical, plain and simple. These are the shows that the whole family could sit down around the TV to watch and have a good time laughing your butt off.

Hey Greg...I am 67 years old. I love watching your reactions to our music from the 60s and the 70s....and now our tv shows we grew up with. The Carol Burnett Show was one of our favorites. Tim Conway who played the dentist started showing up as a regular guest and when he did he would improvise and go off script. Then no one could hold it together. Enjoy enjoy. We did. The elephant skit is another good one to check out . The interesting thing about this show it was filmed in front of a live audience. Tim Conway was the dentist and he made everything up as he went along and the rest of the show crew never knew what to expect out of him.

This from a time when a show said it was live, it meant it, there is nothing on tv today that can come anywhere close to the comedic level of all the major players in the entire show and yes there was a running bet on who could make the others break character by laughing, Tim Conway won by far, they need more comedy shows like this on air.

Love carol burnett and crew! I grew up watching it with my family. I once had a bad tooth, the nerve got infected. I was in such horrible pain i genuinely considered running a smashing my face against a tree in hopes of knocking either myself out, or the tooth. Either way would have been amazing as i had to wait several days to get the damn thing pulled. By that point i didnt give a damn how they did it, just get the tooth out!

The best part is the simple fact that it is so clean and yet so funny that you can watch it again and again and it never gets old.

Tim Conway was a comedic genius. There was a couple of characters that Tim and Carol played in several skits. Tim was the boss and Carol was his secretary Mrs. Wiggins. She cracked him up a time or two if I remember right. But if you saw a skit with Tim in it you knew he was going to cause someone to break character.

I love seeing the younger generation experience true comedic genius. The Carol Burnett Show was absolute comedy gold. Tim Conway (the dentist) would improv many scenes in an attempt to cause his castmates to break character. You have got to watch "The Elephant Story," "The Fuhrer" & so many more. The show was funny the way it was written but the cast breakups were the true, unfiltered humor that the show possessed!

I don't know if one can top that but they have MANY, MANY more for you to see and enjoy. But, not only were all the stars performing on the show top notch but they had wonderful, award winning writers, too. Carol appears in quite a few of them herself and she is equally as funny as those two. The fact that the actor in the chair seemed to be cracking up out of script was not uncommon. The "dentist" did that every time. Just his appearance on the stage made everyone start to laugh and he always came through big time.

It was one of the greatest variety shows of all time. You have an awesome laugh and great big smile and your reactions to some of the tiny things that went on in this skit was taking me back to my childhood when I first saw this live on television. Thank you. 🙂 Personally, I don't think there is anything that tops this skit. Not even Robin Williams. The only thing that comes close is another skit from this variety show - again with Tim Conway. It's the Elephant Story skit and again Tim is at his worst (best) in getting professionals (legends even) to break character. That skit inludes Tim; Carol (Burnett), Vicki Lawrence, and the legendary, Mr. Dick Van Dyke - a comedian par exellence. Tim was able to get the entire group to fall out of character. There's more but you really need to watch that skit.

The elephant story is a absolute riot. I don't knoe the name of the skit, but if you can find the one where Tim, as an old man falls down a staircase in slow motion, that one is comedy gold.

I have had an abscessed tooth before and the infection was bad and it was the worst pain I had ever experienced. I had to call the dentist about 3 am and he called in a subscription of antibiotics to the local CVS and I went and got it just so I could sleep.

Another good one is the interrogation with Harvey Korman, Tim Conway and Lyle Waggoner! OMG, it's hilarious! Lyle was one cast member who hardly ever broke up, but in this skit, he had him in stitches! I miss this show so much! 😂

The Carol Burnett Show was awesome & Tim Conway was the master of comedic sabotage. Lol. The Dentist is a classic. I'm not sure which had me laughing harder watching this skit for the zillionth time or watching you lose it seeing it the first time.😂 This was a similar reaction to my son's and his girlfriend's reaction when I played it for them a few years back. The Elephant skit is another one that will have you in tears just like Tim had the cast... right down to a very agitated Vicki Lawrence's reaction @ the end to get even with him. Tim also did his "Little Old Man" skits that were hysterically funny (The Clock Repairman & the Dry Cleaners are 2 of my favorites). He & Carol also played Boss & Secretary (Mr. Tudball & Mrs. Wiggins) in numerous skits that were so full of snarky, comedic moments. My entire family worked our schedule around being able to catch this show.

Harvey Korman never could keep a straight face with Tim Conway. Other hilarious skits from Carol Burnett include Momma's family (the siamese elephants joined at the trunk, Sorry board game, and the cemetery visit), Mr. Tudball and Mrs. Wiggins, the Hollow Hero, the WWII German Interrogator, As The Stomach Turns, Nora Desmond, and Went with the Wind.

This show was great. The cast considered their lines as suggestions to be tossed around and left their coworkers trying to come up with lines and not break into giggles all at the same time. I loved this skit even more after I grew up because my husband was a dental technician. Those two characters loved to see who could make the other laugh onstage first by the way. Watch for it in other shows, it was a running theme.

I would recommend Went With The Wind, their parody of Gone With The Wind. Classic, especially the dress scene.

That look of satisfaction on Tim's face at the end when he demonstrated his ability to not only break Harvey's will, but to crush it unmercifully.

BTW, For you and anyone reading this, since i gave recipe for tooth pain reliever mouthwash, if you have any respiratory illness, use 4 drops each of clove bud, peppermint and lemon essential oils to 1/3 cup honey and take one tablespoon full at bedtime and dont chase it with food or especially liquid. It stops the tickle usually all night so you can sleep and it opens your sinuses per the peppermint. The peppermint is for taste, the lemon cleans your lungs and the clove is the expectorant so that one makes you cough up the yuck the next morning. Even though my husband and i had our shots and boosters for covid, we were vaccinated for original virus. We went home per plane to be with our kids on christmas. We woke up on Christmas day of all days, with the Omacron varriant of Covid. We were coughing bad for 3 weeks but glad we'd had shots for some protection or been in hospital. We both have medical problems resulting in weakened immune systems and both in our 60s. Anyway, i made this cough syrup that my husband named Hocus Pocus, as he swears i put good spell on it, lol, every other night for duration of covid and it greatly helped us. We slept peacefully and got rid of junk next days. His boss recently had covid and hes 70. Hadnt slept much in 4 weeks from coughing all night. My husband gave boss's daughter my recipe on a friday. Monday morning, he came to work, all smiles and made bee line to my husband, thanking us for sharing as he had slept all night, peacefully, then was amazed at what he coughed up/out next day. My husband told him that Hocus Pocus really worked. His boss was confused and my hubby explained name. His boss broke into huge smile and indicated that was good name because it was magical. I hope you dont mind ne using your channel to share the recipe. We humans need to be kind to each other and help in times of need, im a retired adult and child abuse/neglect investigative social worker, and Hocus Pocus really helps!! I have two favorites. The first one is the same two guys, Tim and Harvey. It is The Interrogation, The Carroll Burnett Show. The second is Robin Williams and Carroll Burnett doing The Funeral Skit, on The Carroll Burnett Show... both are awesome!!!

Harvey didn't have a chance here! The timing of Conway saying, " We'll be right with you, " and collapsing is brilliant! I like the clip where Carol got back at Tim by breaking him up. Always a great show!

The worst toothache I ever had was one of my wisdom teeth. I was really ready to take a leap out the window (second floor) but then he came in and gave me the novacaine. I never had kids and never had kidney stones so a toothache to me is the absolute worst.
