Somehow, somewhere humanity lost the innocence offered by this song. Perhaps, we can turn back time.

A very friendly reaction 😁😁! That scene with the KKK person that got your attention was a visual symbol used to show the theme of the song- Why Can't We Be Friends?. Harold Brown told Songfacts: "We Are Righteous, that's what War stood for. It was trying to bring everybody together through our music". I see 👁👁 that you have reacted to War before: Low Rider. Why Can’t We Be Friends? was released as the lead single from War's 1975 album: Why Can't We Be Friends?. It was written by War and Jerry Goldstein. It was produced by Jerry Goldstein. The song reached #5 on the Cash Box 100, #6 on the Hot 100 and #9 on the Hot Soul Singles chart. The music video was directed by Howard Campbell-Miller. Billboard ranked it as the #23 song of that of 1975. The single sold over a million copies and was certified Gold by the RIAA. The band got the idea for this song when they were traveling in Japan in the early '70s. War drummer Harold Brown told Songfacts: "We're all connected by language, and by our food, and by our culture. Most racists don't know why they're racist. But you pick them up and take them over and drop them in a country, like India or Pakistan, guess what? 'Why can't we be friends?'. Because all of a sudden you find out we're more alike inside than we are on the outside. We started realizing that that's really important. You travel all over the world, you can't speak a lot of their language. But one thing they do know, they know your body language, how you may react". Each verse was sung by a different member of the band, with Harold Brown singing the first. The line: "I may not speak right, but I know what I'm talking about", is harmonica player Lee Oskar, who is from Denmark and was just learning how to speak English. The song has a simple structure, with the phrase: "Why can't we be friends?", being sung four times after each two-line verse amounting to forty-four times in under four minutes. This song makes a statement about the absurdity of judging others based on our differences. War started out in the early '60s as a black band called: The Creators, and they managed to break down barriers, becoming the first black band to be booked on the Sunset Strip in Los Angeles. As they evolved into War and went through member changes over the years, the band integrated, often playing with white musicians like Eric Burdon, who was their lead singer for two albums. Harold Brown explains his philosophy: "I like exemplary people around me. I don't judge you by your name, your color, or your money. I judge you by whether or not you're an exemplary person. Because if I know you're an exemplary person, and I want you to move this equipment from here to there, or you're building a house or you're shining shoes or stuff, then I know you're gonna do it the best you know how. That's the bottom line. See, that's where people keep falling off of America here, because we get inferior people in positions they have no business being in". The Muppets performed the song in a 1979 episode (the one with John Denver as the guest star) in a bit where various Muppets sing it on a battlefield as they blow each other up. We see Frenchmen, Romans, Native Americans, hillbillies, and even Germans doing some trench warfare while asking the musical question: "why can't we be friends?". It's quite a profound statement, and not without precedent: in 1914, World War I soldiers on both sides called a truce and became friends until officers ordered them to start shooting each other again. In 2005, XM Satellite Radio used the song in commercials to promote their Major League Baseball broadcasts. The idea was that fans of different teams could still get along as long as they could listen to the games anywhere an XM radio could be found. The song has been featured in some television shows including 📺: NCIS (2022), The Marvelous Mrs Maisel (2022), Hacks (2021), Young Sheldon (2021), Black Lighting (2021), The Simpsons (2020, 2011, 2007), Beer And Board Games (2015), Supernatural (2012), Dancing With The Stars (2009), Everybody Hates Chris (2006) and more. The song has been used in many films including 📽: White Men Can't Jump (2023), Fast & Furious: Presents Hobbs & Shaw (2019), College Road Trip (2008), Semi-Pro (2008), Cats & Dogs: The Revenge Of Kitty Galore (2010), The Nanny Diaries (2007), Bridge To Terabithia (2007), Cheaper By The Dozen 2 (2005), Mr 3000 (2004), Welcome To Mooseport (2004), Cheats (2002), The Mexican (2001), BASEketball (1998), Lethal Weapon 4 (1998), Wild Things (1998), Blue In The Face (1995), Dazed And Confused (1993) and more. The song has been covered by some artists including 📻: The Force MDs, Jacob Miller, Sean Kingston ft Jasmine V, The Gotee Brothers, Luca Noise, Smash Mouth and more. War Info 📰: War (We Are Righteous), originally called "Eric Burdon And War", is a Funk-Rock-Soul band from Long Beach, California. They are known for several hit songs including: "Low Rider", "Spill The Wine", "The World Is A Ghetto", "Slippin' Into Darkness", "Why Can't We Be Friends?", "The Cisco Kid" and "Summer". It was 1969 when Harold Brown, Howard Scott, Lee Oskar, Morris B.B Dickerson, Lonnie Jordan, Thomas "Papa Dee" Allen and Charles Miller made a powerful statement musically at a time when peace was the slogan in an anti-Vietnam U.S.A. The vision was to spread a message of brotherhood and harmony as each band member was and still is to this day a #soldierofpeace. The voices and instruments were our weapons in hand and our songs were our ammo. We spoke out against gangs, crime, racism, hunger, turf wars, and violence of any kind whatsoever. War has been subjected to many group line-up changes over the course of its existence, leaving band member Leroy "Lonnie" Jordan as the only original member in the group's current performing line-up. While four other former band members created a new group called: "The Lowrider Band", in 1996. In 1962, Howard E Scott and Harold Brown formed a band called "The Creators" in Long Beach, California. Within a few years, they had added Charles Miller, Morris "B. B." Dickerson and Leroy "Lonnie" Jordan to the lineup. Lee Oskar and Thomas "Papa Dee' Allen later joined as well. They all shared a love of diverse styles of music, which they had absorbed living in the racially mixed Los Angeles ghettos. "The Creators" recorded several singles on Dore Records while working with Tjay Contrelli, a saxophonist from the band "Love". In 1968, "The Creators" became "Nightshift", named because Harold Brown worked nights at a steel yard, and started performing with Deacon Jones, a NFL football player and singer. The original band "War" was conceived by record producer Jerry Goldstein and singer Eric Burdon, ex-lead singer of the British band "The Animals". In 1969, Jerry Goldstein saw musicians who would eventually become the band "War" playing at the Rag Doll in North Hollywood, backing Deacon Jones, and he was attracted to the band's musical sound. Lonnie Jordan claimed that the band's goal was to spread a message of brotherhood and harmony, using instruments and voices to speak out against racism, hunger, gangs, crimes, and turf wars, and promote hope and the spirit of brotherhood. The band fused elements of Rock, Funk, Jazz, Latin, Rhythm And Blues, Psychedelia and Reggae in their music. Their album: The World Is A Ghetto, was Billboard's best-selling album of 1973. "Eric Burdon And War" began playing live shows to audiences throughout Southern California before entering into the studio to record their debut album: Eric Burdon Declares War (1970). The album's best known track: "Spill The Wine", was a hit and launched the band's career. "Eric Burdon And War" toured extensively across Europe and the United States. The subtitle of a 1970 review in the New Musical Express of their first UK gig in London's Hyde Park read: "Burdon And War: Best Live Band We've Ever Seen". Their show at Ronnie Scott's Club in London on September 16, 1970, is historically notable for being the last public performance for Jimi Hendrix, who joined them onstage for the last 35 minutes of the band's second set, a day later he passed away. A second "Eric Burdon And War" album: The Black-Man's Burdon, was released in 1970. During the subsequent tour, Eric Burdon collapsed on the stage during a concert, caused by an asthma attack, and the band continued the tour without him before Eric Burdon left the band in the middle of its European tour. They finished the tour without him and returned to record their first album as the band "War". The band's album: War (1971), was released with only modest success, but later that year, the band released the album: All Day Music, which included the singles: "All Day Music" and "Slippin' Into Darkness". The latter single sold over one million copies, and was awarded a gold disc by the R.I.A.A. in June 1972. In 1972, they released the album: The World Is A Ghetto, which was even more successful. The album's second single: "The Cisco Kid", shipped Gold, and the album attained the number one spot on the Billboard 200 album chart, and was Billboard magazine's Album of the Year as the best-selling album of 1973. The group's next album: Deliver The Word (1973), contained the hit singles: "Gypsy Man", and a studio version of "Me And Baby Brother" (previously issued as a live recording), which peaked at No. 8 and #15 on the Billboard chart. The album went on to sell nearly 2 million copies. The band's album: Why Can't We Be Friends? was released in 1975. It included the hit songs: "Low Rider" and the title track "Why Can't We Be Friends?", which were among the band's bigger hit songs of their career. *****CONTINUE BELOW*****

In 1976, War released a greatest hits compilation album containing one new song: "Summer", which, as a single, went Gold and peaked at number 7 on the Billboard chart. Also released that year was the album: Love Is All Around, by Eric Burdon And War, containing mostly unreleased recordings from 1969 and 1970. The band's album: Platinum Jazz (1976), was a one-off album for the Jazz record label Blue Note Records. The group continued to attain success with their next studio album: Galaxy (1977), and its single: "Galaxy", was inspired by the 1977 film: Star Wars. War's next project was a movie soundtrack album for the 1978 film: Youngblood, starring Lawrence Hilton-Jacobs. In 1979, following the departure of Morris B. B. Dickerson (replaced by guitarist Luther Rabb) during the recording sessions for their next album: The Music Band, the group considered changing their name to "The Music Band", but decided at the last minute to continue as "War", and use "The Music Band" as the title of a series of upcoming albums. The series originally consisted of two studio albums: The Music Band, The Music Band 2, both in 1979, and a live album: The Music Band Live (1980), but after the band left MCA Records in 1981 and had already made records for other record labels, MCA Records expanded the album series with a compilation album: The Best Of The Music Band (1982) and a third original album of left-over material called: The Music Band - Jazz (1983). The band lost another member when Charles Miller (saxophone) was murdered in 1980. He had already been replaced in the group by Pat Rizzo (Sly And The Family Stone) in 1979 before he passed away. Other new band members joining at this time were Alice Tweed Smith on percussion and vocals- giving the band its first female vocalist, and Ronnie Hammon as a third drummer. After making the one-off single: "Cinco de Mayo" for Jerry Goldstein's LAX Records in 1981, War signed with RCA Victor Records and recorded the album: Outlaw (1982) which included the singles: "You Got The Power", "Outlaw" and "Just Because". It was followed by the band's album: Life (Is So Strange), in 1983 from which the album's title track was also a released single. War's albums from 1979 to 1983 were not as successful as those from the preceding decade, and after the two RCA Records albums, the band's activities became sporadic. They did not record another full album until a decade later in 1994. The band's 1987 compilation album: The Best of War ...And More, included two new tracks: "Livin' In The Red" and "Whose Cadillac Is That?". Band member Thomas "Papa Dee" Allen passed away from a brain aneurysm which struck him onstage while performing in 1988. In the early 1990s the sampling of previous songs by War from many Hip-Hop artists was prevalent enough to merit the compilation album: Rap Declares War, in 1992, which was sanctioned by the band. In 1993, War reformed with most surviving previous members including original band members Harold Brown, Leroy "Lonnie" Jordan, Lee Oskar and Howard E Scott, as well as later band members Ron Hammon and Pat Rizzo, augmented by a large line-up of supporting musicians. The band still under Jerry Goldstein released a new album: Peace Sign, in 1994. In 1996, the group attempted to gain independence from Jerry Goldstein, but were unable to do so under the name "War" which remains a trademark owned by Jerry Goldstein and Far Out Productions. The band's producer Jerry Goldstein went to court and won the rights to the name War. In response, Harold Brown, Lee Oskar, Howard Scott and a returning Morris B.B. Dickerson (who had not worked with War since 1979) adopted a name which referenced one of War's biggest hits: Lowrider Band. They have yet to record a studio album but perform the group's songs live on stage all around the world. Leroy "Lonnie" Jordan opted to remain with Jerry Goldstein and create a new version of the band "War" with himself as the only original group member. Some other musicians who had joined between 1983 and 1993 were also part of the new group line-up. Both "War" and the "Lowrider Band" are currently active as live performance acts. In 1996, the release of a "War" double CD compilation: Anthology (1970-1994), later updated in 2003 with a few track substitutions and called: The Very Best Of War. Another "War" CD compilation from 1999 called: Grooves And Messages, included a second disc of remixes done by various producers. In 2008, Eric Burdon performed the song: "Spill The Wine", with "War" in concert at the London Royal Albert Hall. The performance was released on another greatest hits album called: Greatest Hits Live on Avenue / Rhino Records, who also reissued much of the band's previous musical catalogue that same year. "War" was unsuccessfully nominated for induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2009, 2012 and 2015. "War" should be in the Rock Hall because they made outstanding music that has stood the test of time. They brought people together through music. Maybe an induction will bring them (the band's original surviving members) all back together as well. In 2014, "War" released a new studio album: Evolutionary, as a double CD, the second disc being a reissue of their Greatest Hits album from 1976. Both "War" and "Lowrider Band" still perform live on stage in 2023. Lowrider Band has a website (lowriderband) dot com. War Group Members 👨🏾‍🎤🎤🎷🎸🎹🎺🥁🪘: 1.
