Cape Falcon Kayak

Күн бұрын

Liz has been filming me building kayaks for 6 years, this time we switched places so she could build one herself for the first time! In this video Liz is building our F1 kayak design. This is one of four different kayaks we offer. It comes in 7 different sizes to fit paddlers from 100 to 250 lbs and weighs about 30lbs in the medium size.
Find plans for this kayak, our other kayak and canoe designs, and instructional video courses on how to build them at cape-falcon-kayak.thinkific.com

From the craft perspective, not speeding, but cutting away the less interesting parts makes the video superb IMHO

I built a kayak when I was 15. I 'scrounged' the wood from building sites, at 1am. My father got me canvas and screws from his workplace. My mate also constructed a similar one. We spent a week canoeing from Oxford to Putney along the Thames. One of the memorable things in my youth. 😊

So I started watching at the beginning and 17 minutes later I found that I had watched all of it without skipping anything, lol. :D Lovely video. I wish you a good 2023. Living by a lake, that sounds good. In our kayak club, there's a man with hardly any long capacity left. Pedling on the river is too much. Still, he bought two tiny sailing boats, and during summer we go to a small lake, once or twice a year. Sailing takes maybe half an hour, but who cares? He can be on the water for a while, and that is what's counting.

What a great quality video! Liz makes building that boat look easy! Wow fantastic crafteswomanship!! The color is cool too. Also to Brian's credit the way he lays out the course it is very easy and super fun! I built my first F1 a couple of months ago following his course to the tee and mine came out awesome too! (But not as good as Liz's I am sure lol.) I loved the build so much I started building another boat a week before I finished the first one. Haha! But this time I wanted to add my own custom touches and design elements. The funny thing is by doing my own thing that I painted myself into some corners that I didn't see coming. In the first build Brian navigates you though the obstacle course without you realizing it. haha! With that said they weren't anything I couldn't overcome (its is only wood after all.) Anyway I am about finished with the fame on my custom boat and I a super excited to see how it paddles compared to the stock version. (hopefully I didn't screw up the performance too bad.) With that said I was totally surprised at how well the F1 paddles!!! It's amazing! (My experience is I have been paddling sea kayaks for about 10 years and have had quite a few from well known sea kayak brands over those years including a very high end brand.) I think if I still had all the boats I've owned I bet Id still choose the F1 to paddle most of the time over the others for day paddles. I highly recommend that you take this course if you have any interested at all in woodworking and kayaking! This type of woodworking is so enjoyable and relaxing. And when you finished you have a killer performance boat! (I'd love to build another after this I have more ideas I want to try but where am I going to put it? humm? I might have to sell my fiberglass boat?lol)

Really nice build there girl. I love watch makers like u build from scratch with ur bare hands. When I was a young kid growing up in IRELAND we had this programme on TV called Hands. The shows were about ppl in the area who were building things with their hands, hence the name of the show. U had arts and crafts type makers but we saw old men and women building boats for fishing and these boats used some form of covering like this too. I think the reason most of the characters were older in age is bcos these skills had been dying off in the local communities bcos of emigration and such. The fishermen needed the boats to be light frame builds for speed I suppose? I really enjoyed this video. NO MUSIC, JUST REAL SOUNDS OF THE WORKSHOP WHICH IS HOW IT SHOULD BE TBF. I look forward to seeing ur next one soon. TBH I only found ur channel this morning and after enjoying this one I SUB'D & LIKED. Take care and keep making great content like this one. Enjoyed it very much..
