2 жыл бұрынDURIANS IN ZANZIBAR! Yes, there are hundred-year-old durian trees in Zanzibar, and they are not difficult to find. On our first day in Zanzibar we headed out to the touristy Kizimbani Spice Farms area (which happens to be a major durian-growing region!) to get a better understanding of this area's history, culture, local plant crops, and of course how they eat durian! After a delicious day at the Tangawizi Spice Garden we feel so prepared to dig deeper into Zanzibar durians, plus we had so much fun!

My friend came to Kuala Lumpur from Zanzibar many years ago. I brought him all over the place to see all kind of coconut machines and technology. Two things Zanzibarians could learn from Malaysia: coconuts and durians.

In the olden days the Malay King presented the Ruler of Zanzibar the durians seeds as a gift.

This is durian kampong....old village durian....the original durian. Now they hybrid it...and it came out diffrent type and name..

Hey! Hey! Are there any durians available on the mainland in africa too? Do you have any information, contacts, tree nurseries, seed sellers etc.? I want to try to grow them in Ghana too when we can travel normally again. Thank you! Love your videos!

Hi! I know of fruiting trees in the Congo and Cameroon, and I've heard of durians growing along the coast in Tanzania but no specifics of where they are :)

The Zanzibar Durian is a native durian or came from other places? How is the climate over there?

it's similar to SE Asia. As far as I know, the Arabian merchants brought durian from Malaysia a very long time ago

Zanzibar durians came from Malay Peninsular. The Malay King presented the durian seeds to the rulers of Zanzibar hundred years ago.

How much does it cost to buy durian in Zanzibar ? Is it widely available in season , when is the season and do they have morn thong kind

Hello, they don't have any named cultivars, only seedling trees. Durians cost from 3,000-8,000 shillings per fruit (not by weight, the cost is per fruit and depends on the size and where you buy it) and the season is late December - February and again in late June-August
