Hey Bo, I use ableton because it was the first daw I understanded. Haven't tryed Cubase yet but I think I'm fine with ableton, I love it, the workflow, the effectchains, the grouping function with Makros, the max4live tools

I just traded my Push 2 in when I got the MODX6 last week. As much fun and as productive as it was, I just didn't use it that often; overall I'm much happier on keys than pads. I don't really like the raw Live workflows anymore either, I've settled on Cubase for my main DAW, Cubasis on iPad, and Reason for goofing around. (I have, or have tried others)

I use Logic, mainly because its easy but I have been falling in love with StudioOne by Presonus because it looks a lot more modern and has a nice step sequencer and chord options. I also use Ableton Live Lite for laying down quick ideas using the clips.

I use Ableton on my "recording" computer and then I use Reaper on another computer for MIDI for my hardware synths ( even thou Reaper i a full DAW ) , I sync computer A with computer B with rtpMIDI ( midi over network ) So I have all MIDI files on one comp and all clips and VSTs on the other comp

Reaper. It can do all the things I want and it costs nearly nothing, even for a commercial license, and upgrades are free.

@@BoBeats I think you'll get on with Ableton just fine. You're in store for a fun few eureka moments during your first few months with it. Hell I still find new creative ways to work with it after 10 years.

Facts!

This is exactly what I said to somebody the other week. I've never had much interest in recording but Ableton feels more like using an instrument to me me than using a DAW. I haven't been using Ableton for very long & I don't have a clue what I'm doing but I really enjoy it. I find it very easy & fast to work with.

You said it perfectly. Live is for making music. You can record tracks like other DAWs but it is much more of an instrument. I don't think it's the best choice for tracking a rock band. I would use reaper for that, but you could use live for anything

Perry Pelican has Push changed how you compose for the better? What do you think are the advantages of it vs other devices - for example I have an APC 40 and keyboard controllers and they feel “good enough”. But I do get the sense there’s some nice advantages to Push. It’s just always hard to justify a Push vs buying a new Synth at similar price point.

push is great for musician not only beat makers.. :) try to search youtube for it and you will see how many great musician are very happy for Push :)

I made the switch from FL studio to ableton couple years ago... Was frustrating in the beginning but I'm happy I switched. Feels like its easier to be more creative with ableton for me and you will never believe why. There are even more ways to do same things than in FL studio. Super confusing in the beginning but for me in the end it feels more open to own creativity...

Im thinking about replacing the novation circuit in my dawless setup with a push and a laptop running ableton under the table. (Mainly because of all the mastering work live )Does'nt that work?

@@bauer6105 Sure it works, but is recommended you stay in Session view when using the Push. In the midi editor and Arrangement view, the mouse & keyboard becomes handier.

I rarely look at the laptop with push2 it was the first thing i noticed after upgrading from the akai push. I was an early adopter of ableton push and have never looked back and because of the support from ableton and max4live I am still learning new flows and work arounds after 10 years of push... fingers crossed in it's 10th anniversary ableton make an announcement of something new... im hoping full Mpe with multi directional pads for expressing akin to roli.

Deep Thunks not that I know of, I’m a bass and guitar, keyboard player, I’ve just started setting up electronic music stuff, couple midi keyboards controllers...Arturia Keystep and a vintage Alesis, Behringer Neutron synth, Mackie HM 400 headphone amp, JBL 305 monitor speakers, dt770 80ohm headphones and AKG 371 headphones, scarlet 2i4 2nd gen interface, shure beta 58 mic, and a fresh download of Ableton 10 lite, going to get 10 Suite soon............so yeah just getting started and learning the process, I made a few cool “songs” in ableton 9 lite a couple years ago but it was so aggravating not having controllers and trying to do it all in the long view one note at a time with mouse clicks....................with guys like you around, I think this will be a much better go at it.................why do you ask about vpn and torrent? I will research a little.

Push 2. I have Ableton and an MK3, but I'd rather have Push2 (which I'll be getting soon). With any other DAW, I'd say MK3, as it's an excellent piece of hardware. But with Ableton, the Push 2 is also excellent, and has integration with Live that th MK3 just doesn't have.

@@kamaumalone got a mk3 as well and lowkey wish would have just gotten a push 2 but machine is dope if you just learn how to work with it so I've been trying but i feel like a push 2 would maybe have been a better choice. but the mk3 has some nice pads and its own audio interface for when you wanna do live stuff. but lowkey thinking of getting a push 2 still. not enough space on my desk though

I agree, reason is fun and a big mess, I like the old school digital music sens about it, great vst's and looks so cool.

Its good but I still prefer Maschine

it is a preset that I tweaked + added some effects to. It also sends to an FX rack with lo cut, so it adds sort of a tail to the sound without muddying up the bass

Also ”Add device” can be anything from adding an instrument to an effect. So if you want to add an instrument to a MIDI track that’s what you should do.

Are you sure that’s possible...lol, If not try multiple surfaces and vst’s - cable problem solved... errr shifted!

I love bitwig!

Native video support in Ableton is a deal maker for me versus Bitwig. I am constantly creating to picture and have to have it in my arrangement.

I have a Push and use Bitwig, and it's awesome, and I love it!

I use Logic but Bitwig has always been a obvious DAW to switch to. It like Logic and Ableton had child with a more colourful GUI. If they Incorporated a sheet music function and take comping from Logic then i'd definitely consider it.

i think its a pretty cool piece of kit. I do think Maschine is more well designed overall but Push offers a lot

​@@BoBeats Couldn't agree more. I love love love my Maschine Studio, MK2, MK3, and Jam. If only for the custom MIDI Templates that the Controller Editor so generously provides. Sadly the MK3 Template for Ableton is unfinished, but the Studio and MK2 templates give a LOT of awesome functionality for Ableton users. I bought a Push 2 on a 12-month payment plan from American Musical Supply. I don't know how I feel about it, just yet... it's nice, but... the fact it needs to be plugged in to see the screens bugs me a lot. The MK3 is a million times brighter, with bigger, more colorful screens, even just usb-powered... I don't like the squishy feel of the Push 2's function buttons... like, at all. They seem slow or laggy. I don't know. I'm more of a Reaper 5 / Maschine guy and have been for at least the past 7 years, but Ableton is growing on me.... I just think the Launchpad Pro covers most of what I need Ableton for (clip-launching, drum grid, etc)... and the Launchpad X is tremendous, for both Ableton and generic midi controller map use.... might sell my Push 2 once my payments are complete... or I might hang onto it. I don't know... I just... I feel like it's overkill, and overpriced. Maschine MK3 on the other hand... no. The browser / tags / sound library... it is absolutely top-notch, and that's not even including all the extra sounds you get like Komplete Select and stuff... the kits are infinitely better-sounding than all of the stock Ableton drum kits, and it's just insanely fast to find exactly the sound you want... unlike Ableton with Push 2. I think the MK3 even offers all this external midi hardware mapping stuff, in the more recent updates... where's Ableton's 3rd party support? Ya know?

Yeah i feel you... push is a cool interface for ableton, but Maschine is a perfectly tuned instrument!!
