Asam Laksa Penang has the complex flavour of sweet, sour , spicy and umami aroma of torch ginger, lemon grass, shrimp paste and fish stock..😋😋😋

I think the first laksa is Laksa Utagha/Utara (Perak, Kedah, Perlis) and the 2nd one is Asam Laksa (Laksa Penang). Cucur kosong is a must topping when u eat Laksa Utara!!

Both that you ate is Asam Laksa, 1 Malay style & 1 Chinese style. The base is almost the same with slight differences such as Petis (Shrimp paste) is already added i n the soup itself where else chinese u pon on separate. Chinese laska has pineqpple and at times bigger fish pieces served where else Malay laksa is grounded fish. The noodles also slightly different too, chinese noodles more firm & glossy white look where else Malay lasa is soft & matt white. Malay laksa more sour and chinese laksa more tangy. Johor laksa also different, they use spaghetti. Kelantan is called Laksam as you know. Also taste different like Sarawak laska. Who knows, you can create a KOREAN style laksa here in Malaysia..hihihi

Local Penang Chinese asam laksa usually are more reddish because it uses red chilli paste in the soup.

Thus begins Chu's study of all laksa's in Malaysia...the sky is the limit...SeDaaP !!!

As a Malaysian, I confess I didn't even know Laksa Janggus existed. After all these years and so many varieties of food later I'm still discovering new food in my country. Damn, I love Malaysia 🇲🇾 ❤🍲

Chu Bro.. That's is my mom's hometown.. In Penang we Malay just call it LAKSA, asam means sour, Chinese call it asam Laksa, it's taste different depends on who cook it but with similar taste. That Laksa Janggus is just a name of that restaurant because in this kampung a lot of Janggus tree that can grow easily. Janggus leaf also can eat as ulam.. Yummy ❤🇲🇾

What a way to enjoy laksa in Penang, Chu.... laksa janggus and asam laksa. Though both have different names, fish is still the most important ingredient to make the broth. For the first laksa, you must eat each bite using the spoon, not the fork. Because this laksa is special. The noodles must go in your mouth same time as the soup haha. So eat with spoon. And must have cili padi. Dont put the dark prawn sauce with laksa utara! That is only for laksa penang. Haha have fun!

I think the janggus refering to the new young janggus leaf (that we the northen msian use for salad or ulam to eat with sambal belacan) Sometimes we served the sliced thinly janggus leaves to serve it with the laksa like topping together with other edible herbs

Janggus = cashew apple = jambu golok. It is the fruit that produced cashew nut. We dont eat it raw like jambu merah. Btw, There is a cashew apple dish in Terengganu (masak lemak jambu golok with sotong)

U should add prawn paste n mix it for more flavour. Thats the way we eat.

Assam laksa in the market street to Kuan Yin Temple (Kek Look Si Temple). The one you having looks good too. My friend, its taste nowhere Korean Kimchi soup. The cooking ingredients is totally different and compare with Kimchi & Assam Laksa, both also taste good. But if you want to compare the two, Assam Laksa wins here.

Asam Laksa is noun while Laksa Janggus is Proper noun. Asam Laksa or Penang Laksa is the name of the food while Laksa Janggus is the name of the restaurant. I do not know why the lady keep confusing you with repeating saying Laksa Janggus while actually she is selling asam laksa/laksa penang
