In this video I FINALLY try my hand at using a paint sprayer to paint a dresser! I absolutely love the way the sprayer allowed me to get such an amazing finish! I used the Wagner Flexio 4000 and their large spray shelter (everything is linked below). The prep work was heavy since I wanted to block the paint from getting everywhere but overall, the whole process seemed to go much faster than using a brush! I am not hanging up my brush but I am excited that I finally have a sprayer in my toolbelt so that I can use that from time to time! Especially with bigger projects! Thanks for watching!

I have watched some people who restore furniture before KZfaq. One trick they would do is take the swivel out of a swivel rocker or recliner. And mount it either to their work table with a large board on top or you can even put it on the floor with two large boards screwing it together. The swivel out of those chairs can take 300 lb this way you can put a complete furniture on it and spin it around without having to walk around it.

Great job with the sprayer. The one thing I do is when I empty out the paint from the container, I pour in the topcoat in the container. So I don’t clean the paint out. The when the topcoat is in I just mix that up and it’s ready to go. Your just using the paint that’s already in the container.

I know you put in a lot of work in these furniture flips, and I enjoy watching your channel. However, would you consider sometimes restoring the more special finds, rather than painting or upcycling?. This dresser has very strong modernist, art deco lines. Restoring the veneer, applying new French polish, or if not possible, a clear varnish, would likely result in a more timeless, valuable piece that could be sold for even more. I do like the painted furniture youdo when the furniture is ordinary. But this one, my heart broke.
@Moutanman

In my area, no matter how neat the piece of furniture it wouldn't sell for half of what a "farmhouse rustic" painted one would. The painted and distressed variant would sell in hours, and the restored piece would sit for days/weeks. It depends on the market if sales are the priority.
@1959Berre

@@Moutanman This dresser is not a "farmhouse rustic" piece. This is art deco with typical veneer patterns. Connoisseurs pay serious money for a piece like this with the original finish. I know I would.

@Moutanman 2 жыл бұрын
@@1959Berre right. It wasn't farmhouse until she painted it distressed. And just because you and collectors would pay top dollar for original, doesn't mean that you aren't vastly outnumbered by the people who want it in painted condition for their house. You have to sell to your market, which was the point of my comment.

Just thumbs up. You need to check the value of the plastic drawer pulls on quality furniture built from about 1920 to about 1959. The ones you have here looked like Bakelite to me. They were called Bakelite and were a sort of predecessor of our modern-day plastic. They're considered valuable and very desirable. They don't make them anymore. To paint them would be to destroy furniture history. They're antiques. I think it would be better to replace them and sell the Bakelite ones on Etsy or eBay to someone who would care for them. Some start at 130 dollars.

We had a Bakelite radio in the 50’s, my mother used Vasoline (white petroleum jelly) to restore the shine and darken the colour other wise it would look dull

Great investment. Even better the dresser/bureau is exactly like a set I inherited. Glad to hear your opinion on the spray gun. My grandparents bought their bedroom set around 1918 when they built the current house I live in. Definitely antique. Looking great.

Hi Lauren, I am so excited for you getting a paint sprayer. I love mine. I bought it to paint a friend's kitchen cabinets. It cut my time tremendously! And I love the smooth finish. I would put painters tape over the nozzle if I had to step away from my project. Or sometimes just a damp paint rag. The "tape and drape" is also a Godsend! Thanks for always inspiring me!

Keep everything in order all the time, that way things will go faster and you will be able to find everything . Don’t leave at end of day until it’s all put back, then you can begin each day easier.

Your videos are fantastic! I took up furniture refinishing during the pandemic and just love it. I will definitely be getting a sprayer for future projects. Fortunately, I live on acreage where I can use the sprayer outside. I will put my projects on a tarp or pallet in the middle of the field on a calm day to spray them. 😀

@@dorothyyoung8231 true on keeping furniture in the shade to dry. Drying in the sun speeds up dry time but doesn't allow for proper curing of the paint.

We debated between the flexio by wagner and the earlex 5500 (we learned is also wagner). We previously had a commercial wagner hvlp, and the deciding factor for us is the earlex is all metal parts with interchangeable spray needles. Same price range for either. Amazon offers 5 easy payments, like QVC. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/j9OUhLN23r-tgYk.html

I’ve noticed that there’s not a lot of people making vanity sets. Putting together three or four items for a little girls room.I’ve even done school lockers with themes. So small table, small chair, mirror and side table or even a shelving system for toys. The sets always sold really well for me! I would love to see you try one if you want examples let me know I’ll send you some photos

I love the color you chose. I've been looking for that color for a long time, and now I can go buy it. I watched your video a short while ago and now I'm watching Flip It Furniture. She's talking about safety first while talking to beginners about how to do a furniture flip. I've wondered if you should wear eye glasses. She said she's actually gotten eye infections from what she sands off her old pieces. Even if she didn't feel anything go in her eye. You said you'd get a better filtered mask, and I agree. I think you should also get protective glasses as well. Since you've chosen to do this for a living and not a hobby, I think it's important you protect yourself from the chemicals going into your eyes or your lungs. Hope you hear this as helpful, that was my intension.
