derry girls is literally one of my favorite shows ever and seeing Nicola Coughlan go from Clare to Penelope Featherington was the cutest transition between my two fave shows

Orla is definitely my favourite, she's an absolute legend. But, as someone from Derry, Michelle is the most accurate Derry Girl.

Joe putting his hand on Gerry's shoulder always brings a wee tear to my eye - as much as they bicker, they are family and comfort each other in hard times. I also love the juxtaposition of the girls having fun and the adults finding out horrible news. They do something similar in the next season when the girls are fighting and the adults are reacting to happy news.

I live in Northern Ireland and work in the film industry and this is one of our proudest masterpieces (besides maybe game of thrones at titanic studios in Belfast). These women are so talented and their accents are on POINT, which is very difficult to achieve. They also raise so much awareness on the political issues that unfortunately still prevail over here, but they do it in a very clever, hilarious, disarming way. So happy you guys reacted to this, I never clicked so fast on a video in my life 😂 ❤

I loved the way they portrayed Erin's reaction to Claire coming out. It was relatable to me. Often people are on board with a sort of distant idea of gay rights instead of *truly* supporting gay people, and when one of their loved ones come out, they act like complete morons. As a lesbian, I remember some of my straight friends hugging me less and stuff after I came out in high school, because they thought I was/would become interested in them... Losing a lot of that casual physical affection a lot of girl friendships have was really painful to me. These were all friends who said they supported LGBT+ rights too. On a lighter note, I loved your reaction!! Comedy shows don't usually hit the spot for me but I love Derry Girls. I especially adore the exaggerated facial expressions, particularly on Erin 😭😭

The genius of this show is putting out a great comedy against the backdrop of a turbulent and violent time in Ireland’s history. Michelle is my absolute favorite and Sister Michael is the truth, the way and the light! I’m excited to watch this show with y’all!

Derry Girls hit the ground running from the first episode and never looked back. 18 episodes in total and each one a gem.

As a teen in 90s England, I'm now appalled at how we weren't taught about what was happening just across the sea. Derry Girls S1 is brilliant, for the comedy of course but also those sudden hard-hitting moments that remind you what was reality for everyone.

Honestly? I'm just happy to be here and know Benji & Rizzo have now seen Derry GIrls.... it's what they deserve

Something to watch as you move forward is how the kids are reflections of their parents (or in James’ case, how he mirrors Gerry) the generational themes in this show are sooooo well done.

I love how similarly chaotic the adults are in this show, especially Mary

In the original Orla's step aerobics routine was set to Like A Prayer, that's why she waits so long to start (it's that "ooohh" intro bit before it starts "life is a mystery")! I think they had to change it for licensing purposes

I absolutely love Derry Girls. Every time I watch this show I always make sure to watch Orla because she's almost always doing something strange. She's most definitely my favorite character

It was incredibly difficult to balance the Derry of that time and the conflict in Northern Ireland with the comedy but they really pulled it off.

I'm a German who first came to Derry 12 years ago and immediately fell in love with the place. So happy that this show has been so successful all over the world, the people here really are one of a kind 💚

My sister is asthmatic and from what I remember she's always had a blue inhaler (and the brown round preventer too) so the show is correct. The US caught on after us with that one 😂🤙 Edit: and yes, it was the 90s she's had her inhalers since.

Sister George Michael (for yes, that is her full name!) is one of my most favourite TV characters ever. Every word that comes out of her mouth is pure gold. I can watch all 3 season multiple times and never get bored (I'm Irish and grew up a little earlier than these girls but still recognise all they lived through).

Nicola Coughlan in Derry Girls is the main reason I then watched Bridgerton. I live in Australia not Ireland but I was a teenager in the early 90's and distinctly remember regularly hearing about The Troubles on the news.

Did you guys realize there are 2 bridgerton connections in this. Besides Nicola, the guy who plays Ciaran (the photo guy) was Berbrook in season 1and in season 2 of Derry Girls one of the boys erin has a crush on is Theo from season 2 of bridgerton

Firstly, I was in school in Ireland in the 90s and we did have blue inhalers!! Derry Girls was exactly what being in an all girls school was like. I always well up at that last scene because even though the writer said it wasn’t based on any particular bombing, it reminds me of the Omagh bombing in 1998, one of the worst atrocities in the history of ‘The Troubles’.

Such a good show, I just finished the last season and it a so well done the whole show. I coulda watched these girls in a million more situations but they way they ended it right at them turning 18 was so good and so purposeful to show how quick that part of your life is.

I'm a Derry man, this show is one of my favourite really captures the people of Derry really well. Also the Inhaler is 100% accurate I had one, love seeing people react to my wee city

Finally!!! It's been 84 years!!!

The next 2 seasons grow deeper. There are some really comical stories and some heartfelt stories. All the group supports Claire totally (note how often rainbow symbols crop up) and there are some amazing! musical parts. Gotta finish it! Season 3 has a 7th “finale” episode. ☘️💚

one of my favourite oneliners (that I didn't even catch my first time(s) watching) is "you can't be wasting esther's time like that" when Erin says she will call childline. it implies that she *has indeed done that before* and maybe esther even complained about it xD absolutely brilliant

I love everything about this show. The cast, the writing - every single character feels real (thought their heightened of course)- the side characters are ace: Dennis, Jenny, Colm, Sister Michael, aunt Sarah. The show is hilarious but has so much heart and authenticity. It's light but doesn't shy away from important political and life issues. It's nostalgic and the soundtrack is perfect. I cried straight through season 3 because I felt so connected to the girls and felt like losing a group of friends I never had as a teen.

I think the show is set in 1996/1997(?) because it's only set a year or two before the Good Friday Agreement in 1998. 37:00 I was born in 1995 and was prescribed an Inhaler when I was 5 in 2000 (from the UK) and they had been blue for quite a while before I was prescribed one. My dad is asthmatic as well and he had a blue inhaler before I was born. So I think in the UK they may have primarily been blue for a long time? I didn't know inhalers were colours other than blue until I was pretty grown, I think they're colour coded for type of medication now? Excited for you to watch season 2!

the subtitles are off in a few areas by the way like when michelle says 'speak for yourself shite the tights' (basically meaning clare's a nervous wreck) but netflix has subtitled it 'speak for yourself sugar tits'

as someone who went to a catholic all girls school, this show is scarily accurate.

My moms family is from/lived in Kerry, Ireland. Such a good modern Irish comedy about an important time & i know many irish people are pleased this show exists. Yall are one of my fav reaction channels but it also just makes me so happy to watch Non Irish American people watch and enjoy this show as much as me & my mom do :)

My brother's inhaler was the same color as that girls in the 90s. Now they are white.

Growing up in Glasgow in Scotland its easy to get the political, historical and religious aspects of it. Glasgow during the irish famine saw thousands of irish catholics move to the city (Scotland went through the reformation so was very protestant) they were treated like second class citizens. Now to this day the problems in Northern Ireland are also in Scotland. Growing up catholic (although im not religious in any way at all) i thought the episode where they got stuck in the Orange Order parade was hilarious. I think Glasgow has more Orange Order parades than Belfast..... Always trouble around tht time of year too. They actively march through catholic areas and stop outside catholic churches etc. Also there are republican marches too but say maybe 10 a year but there are hundreds of Orange Order ones. So it's safe to say that sectarian hatred is still safe today in Northern Ireland and Scotland.......Anyway Derry Girls does a good job of capturing the feel of being a teenager then and also the ongoing civil war or "Troubles" hilarious showand it only gets better. My personal favorite is Michelle (everything she says just kills me). Also shout out to Siter Michael who is probably the star of the show anytime she is on screen.

I see a lot of people mentioned about the inhalers but just so as you know it was a channel 4 production in the uk, Netflix have it now, but channel 4 made it if you’re throwing anything at makers 😂 Derry Girls is set exactly when I grew up and it’s epic in both the nostalgic sense as well as the comedy. The fears that were around in ‘the troubles’ were just starting to hit us as we were hitting our teens.

They always find a way to make people laugh or smile and thats why the pink popcast is one of the best podcast

I grew up in the 90s in Northern Ireland but as a Protestant. It's amazing to see how much they have been able to capture in the show of exactly how it was. You were a kid but you knew about what was happening around you and some of it was horrific but it was normal life to us.
