Watched this movie over a month ago but never got around to editing it as this is the most convoluted movie ever lol. This was a tough edit trying to add everything together (no pun intended). Last night this won many awards and I thought there's no better time to edit and post this than today! Enjoy!

Speaking multiple languages is very common in immigrant families. In my own family my mother spoke Slovenian, my father spoke Serbian, my sister spoke English and I would switch between the three all in the same conversation. The film does this as well. Evelyn switches between English, Cantonese and Mandarin. The father speaks only Cantonese and Waymond only speaks Mandarin and English and Joy speaks mostly English. Trust me, you get used to it LOL.

I think you got it wrong or didn’t hear my point clear enough (maybe my fault). I clearly point out that not many shows or movies get this right, and do it this proper way. Most have scenes in a single language or sometimes swap for certain words, but this specific scene had them switching back and forth for the whole conversation. I pointed it out as a good thing lmao not a bad one. It’s has nothing to do with not understanding lol. Even my extended family would switch between Spanish and English

Same here. As Taiwanese immigrant to Canada, many of us learned to understand and speak Mandarin Cantonese and English. It's nice to be able to understand all of the languages that Evelyn and Waymond speak in the film.

I went to see this movie in the theater when it came out here and, yes, a couple of people left during the fake credits. Their loss. By that point in the film my emotions were reeling so I don't think I could have left even if I had wanted to.

I love how the final fight is literal and metaphorical. Literal as in the final show down between Evelyn and Jobu. But it’s also the visual representation of a mother trying to save her daughter. Fighting for her to not commit suicide by going into the bagel. Joy fights more aggressive, screaming and fist closed, hurting her mother. Evelyn fights more passive, blocking or redirecting what Joey throws at her, trying to help her daughter. The music shows how chaotic it is and how dark and sad it is. The whole fight is Evelyn saving Joy from committing suicide and deciding to end it all. And in the end there’s not a definite winner. Instead it stops and we get a private and intimate conversation, where Evelyn shows Joy there is a way to live, even if nothing matters

The fact that Evelyn and Joy are planets in a universe crashing into each other is the best way to describe my love for my mom.

Waymond did not serve her divorce papers to divorce her per se, he did it because, as he said in the first divergent universe she went to: "unless it is an emergency, she always gets pulled away". He needed to jolt her away from thinking anything aside from their relationship at the moment, which she has always taken for granted.

Honestly this was incredible to watch because of how funny the effect is of the bottom half of the movie being bigger and giving everyone huge legs/bodies half the time

Saw it in the theater; I knew the fake ending was fake, but was impressed that they held it just long enough to make you wonder a bit.

21:35 You're the first reactor I've seen who caught that detail! She said earlier that her head would figuratively explode if she thought of one more thing, but now her brain could literally explode... This movie has so many callbacks and foreshadowing!

Why the bagel? It's the opposite of the Googly eye so you've got the bagel (darkness) vs Googly eye (light). But they also represent the Chinese concepts of Yin/Yang (Yin is black with a white center, Yang is white with a black center). Plus "Everything Bagel" is funny. (This whole movie is so cleverly done & you get more from re-watching. I'm so glad it's been recognized with so many nominations & awards.)

Instead of a movie sequal, they should make it into a TV sitcom called "EveryWang!" About an Aisan-American family of multi-versal jumpers that jump from universe to universe fixing the lives of other versions of themselves.

You mentioned towards the end confusion about which was the "real" universe. For one, all the universe are real, and Evelyn winds up existing in them all at once, but to explain what was happening with the familiar ones: the one with all the fighting and damage to the IRS building is the branch from the original where Evelyn punched Dierdre and Alpha Waymond stepped in to save her. There was a branch there where they instead went home to finish their taxes, and while in the car Evelyn and Waymond discuss the divorce (during the Dierdre fight). From there, the Gone Home universe has Evelyn sorting receipts again (Part 2 start) but not actually taking them back to Dierdre (Evelyn and Jobu in the living room). From there, the party starts, which Dierdre interrupts, and Evelyn breaks the window during her breakdown. Then there's one branch where she turns into a rock, and another where she just gets arrested quietly (which is what we follow) and Waymond negotiates more time. That's also where Gong Gong gets upset and Evelyn gives her speech, and introduces Becky properly. So, the major branches are going to the closet or not, going home or not, and not turning into a rock.

Code switching is common in first and even second generation immigrant households. Sometimes, at least in my experience, words are also combined from root with English. I live in a border city in Texas and Mexican/English languages tend to mash up.
