It’s impossible to choose one Elvis song, but if you have to it’s Jailhouse Rock.

I love Elvis movies and this is one of my favorites. The storyline was great and the music was amazing! 💖💖

The video (thats what we call it now) of the song Jailhouse Rock always makes me chuckle at the idea that Elvis thought he couldn’t dance. And by the way he thought of dance, he couldn’t. In his time, ‘dance’ was choreographed. Even those fabulous jazz swing dancers were relying on known steps. What Elvis was doing, moving to the music, wasn’t considered ‘dance’. As such they had a bit of a problem getting the choreography right for this performance. Elvis didn’t naturally do those ‘steps’ when he was singing. Finally the choreographer asked Elvis to simply do his thing and they choreographed the whole thing around Elvis’s natural moves. The result is one of the coolest & most iconic rock n roll moments in movie history.

Glad to see someone reacting to his films! This is my favorite of his! That bassline riff was played by elvis fyi. His bassist bill black couldn't get it right after a couple of takes and left in frustration so elvis took over and played the bass instead

It acually did during filming a crown came loose and he swallowed it . It went into his lung . He had emergency operation . The actress was killed in a car crash before the film aired . Elvis was devastated

I'm so glad you're reacting to Elvis' movies! This was a super fun reaction! It was quite the roller coaster for you. I had to look up Mickey Alpert because I never heard of him either. He was an American jazz songwriter, entertainer, and orchestra leader. He passed away in 1965 so he was still alive to hear his name mentioned in this movie. Some interesting facts: When they recorded "You're So Square (Baby I Don't Care)", the bass player had a new electric bass and couldn't figure out how to play what Elvis wanted. He got frustrated, put the bass down, and as he walked away told Elvis "you do it". And Elvis did, so what you heard was actually Elvis playing that bassline that you liked. When Elvis slid down the pole he dislodged a cap on his tooth which he swallowed. It lodged in his lung where the doctors discovered it had broken into two pieces. So they had to go in twice to remove it. Luckily, they didn't damage his vocal cords. Sadly, Elvis' co-star, Judy Tyler, and her husband were killed in a car accident three days after this movie was finished. Elvis could never bring himself to watch it. You'll find as you travel your Elvis journey that his life was every bit as unique and fascinating as his talent.

I concur with a sentiment below, you don't have to ever apologize for rolling back, we love to see/hear Elvis AGAIN, especially the really good parts. I was a latecomer to Elvis so when I got to to the movies I was so not impressed that three of his pre-army films were in B&W. Regardless of the reasons for it, I still want them all in colour!

I'm sure that detail was inspired by more than one real life fan letter Elvis had received from more than one of his adoring female fans. To answer your question about why "Jailhouse Rock" was filmed in black & white: This is according to Wikipedia: "Filmed in black and white, the film ["Jailhouse Rock"] was the first MGM production to use the recently 35 mm anamorphic lens by Panavision. The anamorphic lens was basically gave the film the widescreen or "stretch" effect. Which was very popular when it first debuted in 1954. Panavision is an American motion equipment company that specializes in cameras and lenses and was found in 1953. The company was started by Robert Gottshalk as a smaller partnership to create the anamorphic projectionens which made the widescreen fornat for movies very popular and high in demand. Panavision is still in business today and is unique in the fact that they own their equipment exclusively, unlike the company's competitors. Nedrick Young was the screenwriter of this film, a blacklisted Hollywood actor & screenwriter. (He was blacklisted because he refused to testify before The House Of Un- American Activities Community. They basically thought that Hollywood was supporting a bunch of Communists and suspected members of the Communist Party USA. Cold War and "Red Scare" sh*t basically.) Judy Tyler died after filming "Jailhouse Rock". She and her husband, George Lafayette, were driving home to New York from Hollywood when they got involved in a car accident in Rock River, Wyoming. Judy Tyler died instantly and George died the following day in the hospital. During filming, Elvis had become friends with the both of them and because of Judy Tyler's death, Elvis didn't attend the premiere of "Jailhouse Rock" at Leow's Theater in Memphis. In fact, Elvis never watched "Jailhouse Rock". He could never bring himself to. I hate to end it on such a sad note. But I'm getting tired and that's all I can think of at the moment. There are lots of “crumbs” in Elvis’ movies that are very close to home and may even have been included in the movie as a way of sending Elvis a message that he better toe the Parker line. In this movie, the scene where Elvis is doing “hard labour” and the flogging he gets for punching the guard, is related to Elvis’ father Vernon who was sentenced to 3 years hard labour at the notorious Parchman Prison. While I don’t have a specific reference, I read that Vernon never went without a shirt after he was released from prison. One conclusion might be that he bore scars on his back from a flogging while incarcerated. When you review the King Creole movie you will see another example of Hollywood taking a pot shot at Elvis’ father.

The storyline is what Colonel Tom did to Elvis in reality. It’s like his start with Sun Records. Jail is cruel and Elvis learns how to be angry and cruel. Sad 😞 I love this movie.

You asked about the musicians, they are the same ones who are on Elvis early records. Scotty Moore on guitar, Bill Black on upright bass, DJ Fontana on drums. The piano player at the end is Mike Stoller, one of the songs writers. Also Vince was happy sweet guy in the beginning of this movie, it was in jail he hardend, but he was coming back around. I do believe they colorized loving you later to answer that question.

He was afraid he would be forgotten and today I watched the candlelight vigil where thousands of fans from all over the world walks by his grave, with a candle in one hand and tears dripping down. 45 years later.
