These are all her dancers and bck up singers from her blonde ambition tour. This video was made two months before they went on tour . I imagine they would of already been in rehearsals for the tour by the time the video was bein made. Also the ending where Madonna is in a corset with her bck to us that was based on a picture by a famous fashion photographer called Horst P. Horst

I had to look up the photo and she did such an accurate portrayal of the photo!

Madonna use to go out nightclubbing incognito with then pal Sandra Bernhard and late friend Martin Burgoyne to the paradise garage in NYC, where classic house djs like Larry Levan would play, and in an interview for iradio in 2019 she's talking about her inspiration for the song Vogue, where she says that "the house of extravaganza" where voguing....this was 1988...Joe extravaganza was part of this crew back then, that's where they met, and so on... You can see Madonna starting to incorporate Voging in her 1989 presentation of Express Yourself at the VMAs. BTW. 😍

When you say they look like they're insulting you, you're not wrong! Voguing came from lgbt underground ballroom culture. Voguing was a dance way of throwing shade, and they'd have pose battles and everything! A couple of the dancers in her video were from one of the major ballroom houses in NYC.

More specifically voguing came initially from black underground gay ballrooms and was later absorbed more widely by the larger overall lgbt community.

You have a great eye. Yes, the scene with Madonna with the corset its a recreation of a picture called Mainboucher Corset by Photographer Horst P. Horst done in 1039. Madonna has always been interested in art in general, specially in Photography and Painting, including stuff from her own art collection in her work. Great reaction ☺️ saludos desde Chile ☺️🇨🇱

Madonna was introduced to Vogueing when her friend Debi Mazar went to the Soundfactory dance club in NYC and saw Jose Gutierrez and Luis Camacho of the House of Xtravaganza doing the Vogue and told her about it and that she should go and check it out for herself. This was in the fall of 89. And when she did she was so impressed and knocked out from their performance that she asked them to audition for her upcoming Blond Ambition World Tour in 90. Anof the dancers in this music video were in her Blond Ambition Tour. Vogue was an understatement dance movement that started in the NYC's Harlem neighborhood's night club ballroom scene in the 70s where gay men and transgender women would Vogue for competition and for a sense of community. She always keeps her head on what's hot underground and brings it into the mainstream.

You should watch Madonna's 1991 documentary, "Truth or Dare". It's Madonna on the world tour that promoted this song and her album "Like A Prayer". If you are intrigued by the people in this video, you'll love the movie. It's all about them.. and they ARE fabulous. There is another documentary that came out a few years ago called "Strike a Pose". It's a reunion of the dancers. Check out her music video for "Cherish".

People say Madonna appropriated vogueing, but the diff btw her and diff artists that get accused for appropriating is that she she was active in the intl gay community at the time and years prior. She invited/paid fairly Luis and Jose from the House of Xxtravaganza to choreograph for her. She didn’t ask them to censor or scale back what they did. She wanted them in their purest form

@ you’re welcome! And in the middle of the AIDS epidemic. Also, Jose, the guy in THIS music video in the chair that was turning around giving shade, is IN POSE sometimes as a cameo role in the voguing scenes. He (and Luis) were the two gay vguing dancers that Madonna discovered! They taught her to vogue, and then she turned it into a song (this song), hired them and others for her tour, and put them in the music video. Amazing for Jose to show up In pose later :) and he gets his own dance sequence in season 2 to this very song.

She told me she had fun but lots of patience bc she knew M had to look perfect and i think she nailed it! And since you like RPDR you should totally react to all the M videos that the queens have done there: "Nothing Really Matters", "Papa dont preach" "Justify my Love" "Express Yourself" "Music" etc.

Check out a legendary clip: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/q9lzpMWc286vlZc.html This is the closing night of a party which summed up an entire generation of what it meant to party - a generation out of which the vogue and ballroom scene arose. You'll see the boys from the Madonna video here, engaging in runway battles at 8 in the morning, after 28 hours of LIVING. This party, this scene, is where I too was born and raised. (I'm in there somewhere in a jock strap, platforms, glitter, and nothing else...) We can talk about Madonna 'Straight-White-Lady'ing' the crap out of a scene born of, primarily devoted, and culturally specific to LGBTQ people of color in another chat. Madonnas vogue is a double edged sword - positive exposure through pretty blatant appropriation....but again...a different conversation... those white nineties kids NEEDED TO SEE IT. Just wanted to say, I love to see the young, watching their elders 'do their thing' 'back in the day'. I was taken in by these queens and this time, raised up in NYC before the towers fell. This clip I'm sharing is a picture of decadence to be sure - but it was also a glimpse of a possible future full of glamour expression community dance and love. A future, which I have some hope for, when I see people your age embracing themes such as these.
