I've always associated the fear they feel and her transition to a villain in this movie as a perfect example for the saying "Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned." 👌

Little fact about her discovering the wings are gone: Angelina Jolie said the scene was one giant metaphor for being violated. The drugging, the pain, realizing what happened, it's all right there. P.S. I'm only wording it as such to get past the censors.

For clarification it flopped with the critics, audience ratings were way higher and rightfully so😤 I learnt to not trust the movie critics nowadays, it seems like the only accurate analysis from them is when a movie is extremely good or extremely bad, anything in between I squint my eyes at refer to the audience.

I genuinely don't get how this flopped with the critics, it is SO GOOD! And such a unique take on the story of Sleeping Beauty, no shade but the original could get boring at times, Maleficent was always the most interesting, making her the protagonist/anti-hero is SO GOOD, and I just find this movie so satisfying with her being the true love's kiss and getting that happy ending

Critics look at genres as a set of lists a movie must fulfill, if it doesn’t match exactly with an arbitrary guideline, then they trash it regardless of how great a film it is. It’s why they praise boring ass terrible films and degrade actual creative and good films. Critics suck.

Another detail about the SA metaphor is that Maleficent ends up raising and eventually loving the child of her attacker which many women have done irl

Fun fact, in the book, it is revealed that Stefan took TWO stones from the pool and only gave back one. He kept the other one for himself....proving that once again, a man cannot be trusted with a woman's heart. He SAYS he loves her and its true loves kiss, but the instant circumstances turn to his advantage, where he can become king and have all the power, he betrays Maleficent in the worst possible way. Honestly, I think drugging her and taking her wings from her was MUCH WORSE, in her mind, than had he simply killed her and brought her body to the King as proof. He absolutely violated her and shattered her trust and her heart. And the beautiful irony is, while he was the one who broke her heart, Aurora was the one to heal it. Honestly, I consider this movie to be one of the best Disney live action remakes, along with 101 Dalmatians and Cruella. THIS is how fantasy SHOULD be done. You can clearly tell when you are in Maleficent's home that its magical....unlike the new Peter Pan movie where it just looks like plain, ordinary Scottish cliffs. It is absolutely gorgeous and the designs of the fairies are very creative. And I like how they chose to do the story. Angelina Jolie was PERFECT as Maleficent.

I absolute love the trope of found family, Maleficent and Crow being parents figures to Aurora is such sweet cute amazing concept it made this became one of my favourites movies of all time. The second one is also really really good!

Here's some interesting research I found on the actual story: Apparently the spinning wheel is a metaphor for growing up. The Curse was essentially Maleficent saying, "She will be given the chance to grow up." By burning them, the king was saying, "She will NEVER grow up!"

OMG! I love Maleficent so much 🖤 Iconic queen To be clear, as much as I do hate Stephan, the fact that the King's armour burns her at the beginning has nothing to do with Stephan. He was wearing armour wich just happened to be made of iron. Also: Maleficent couldn't wake up in the scene he cut off her wings because he put something in the drink he gave her.

The only reason the people of malificents land feared her is because of her understandable change of charachter. They remember how she used to be incredibly kind, gentle and happy...but now after stefans actions she (understandbly) became angry, resentful and the kind aura she once had....turned into more of a vengeful one, thier formerly kind-hearted friend and ally....has now turned herself into a ruthless unforgiving queen....

I always despised maleficent until I first saw this move bc it showed more of her background story and why she ended up doing what she did. I started to feel bad for her and actually liking her character. I think one of the reasons Stefan took away her wings is bc he couldn’t live w/ the amount of guilt of k*lling her since they used to be friends so he just took her wings so she could still live. But idk I could be wrong, I just liking looking for the good in people. is so annoying in this film. Love the videos! You do such an amazing job! I aways smile and laugh whenever I’m watching your videos. Would love to see you react to the second one and Disney’s Rip Girls if you haven’t already.

i also think that's what the film implies. but it also made things much worse bc maleficent then had to live with the fact that the person she loved betrayed her and took an irreplaceable part of her for personal gain. by trying to be more merciful, he chose the option that caused more harm 😔

THEY ARE BOTH SO GOOD!!!!!!!!! Sleeping Beauty animated has been my film to sleep with forever, but both live action films hold up so well in their own regard. I love both of the love actions so much. The 2nd one is a bit longer, but they are So good! 🎉🎉

All the other creatures were scared of maleficent because back then there was no ruler of the forest but maleficent created a throne and basically made herself queen and made everyone else bow to her

Oh yeah ignore the critics for quite a lot of movies. I trust people more than the critics. Also it didn’t flop, everyone I knew went to watch this movie and everyone I know loves it. This movie and Cinderella are generally considered the best live action Disney adaptions made. Ironically they are also the reason we are getting so many live action adaptions. Because these ones were so good. But alas the others can’t quite live up.

I really liked it. when it was released back in 2014 I was turning 16 that year, so it was like it got to celebrate my birthday with the live-action version of my favorite Disney princess. and yes, definitely watch the second movie. :)
