Folks, what a movie this was! And what a cast! Leonardo DiCaprio, Margot Robbie, Brad Pitt, Timothy Olyphant, Emile Hirsch, Al Pacino, Dakota Fanning, and more. Everyone did such a great job. The story was really intriguing. Can't believe we waited till now to see this film.
Actor Rick Dalton (Leonardo DiCaprio) gained fame and fortune by starring in a 1950s television Western, but is now struggling to find meaningful work in a Hollywood that he doesn't recognize anymore. He spends most of his time drinking and palling around with Cliff Booth(Brad Pitt), his easygoing best friend and longtime stunt double. Rick also happens to live next door to Roman Polanski and Sharon Tate (Margot Robbie) -- the filmmaker and budding actress whose futures will forever be altered by members of the Manson Family.

Tarantino has said this is pretty much his masterpiece, the movie he's been meant to make given his life, and passion for cinema and Hollywood. He's said the final 10th film will serve as more epilogue-y for his film career.

I went in with very low expectations since I also was too sure what it was about - I knew about Margot as Tate so I had an idea, but I definitely wasn’t ready for this movie. I enjoyed it more because of it, so I like the idea of y’all going in blank as well. I love the excitement for movie details y’all have for your reactions! ‘Til next time!

Having been around when the Manson murders happened, and knowing a lot about it, this movie was high anxiety through the whole thing, just anticipating a horrific ending. It definitely adds tension to the storyline! But, seeing the twist on reality was so satisfying, considering the horrors those people really committed that night. Read up on the Manson details, and then watch the film again. It will take on new life.

Yeah I really like how I went into it know what happened but terintino is good at his job and about half way through I forgot what the movie was really about and then it hit me and it kept me with an uneasy feeling. It was awesome.

@maggieshevelew7579 I can’t imagine what it was like experiencing the excitement of the sixties, but also the horror of what happened in this case. I know quite a bit about what happened that night and with the LaBianca family, so I was dreading what was going to happen in the movie. I don’t like violence and gore, but this was so, SO satisfying and the ending made me emotional, thinking of what could have been. I never expected to shed some tears over this movie, but it was packed with such a roller coaster of emotions! I thought it was brilliant! I just wish this would have been the real outcome, Sharon, her baby, her friends, the innocent young man, and the labianca’s would have survived, living long fulfilled lives. 💗 Its a lovely thought to daydream of.

This film is also kind of Tarantino's love letter to Sharon Tate. And apparently Sharon's family -- originally pretty skeptical -- gave their full approval to it, once they realized the direction Tarantino was going to take the story.

I think the funniest part of this whole movie is that, with NO CONTEXT at all, Rick saw this bloodied woman run into his pool and decided the best action was to kill her with a flamethrower XD I DIED laughing at that when I saw it in theatres. Nothing in this movie prepares you for what happens at the end, I love it!

The last 15 minutes of this movie are among the most satisfying to watch even though I don't usually like gore nor horror. It's how it should have gone in reality. Tarantino is definitely pushing on those animals.

I think that's my favourite Tarantino film that I've seen so far. I love that 60's Hollywood topic in general, that's why I enjoyed it even more. The ending was killing me and the audience in my cinema was in stitches. :D

@@BaddMedicine Yes! It would have been worth it just for the ending. Because no one had expected it. Even though I'm very familiar with Manson cult and Sharon Tate story. Everyone was hysterically laughing. It was so satisfying for me knowing the history.

It’s definitely in my top 2 or 3 Tarantino films, which would pretty much be interchangeable, depending on my mood that day.

I remember vividly the Tate-LaBianca murders. Nobody who was alive then forgets it. When I first watched Once Upon a Time I didn't know what it was about, but in that early scene when their car turned onto Cielo Drive, I knew immediately where the movie was going. The question left in my mind was just how Tarantino was going to deal with the event. In real life, the neighbours heard nothing because of the music they were listening to and I was left questioning right to the last moment how it was going to play out, especially when Rick Dalton put on his headphones. I've never had a story I knew the ending to (or thought I did) keep me in such suspense.

I love how the meaning of the title really shows at the end of the movie. "Once Upon a time in Hollywood". It's what we would have liked to have seen happen. It's a happy ending where the good guys not only beat the bad guys, but destroyed them. Unfortunately it didn't have a happy ending.

fun fact: When Brad Pitt and Dicaprio asked Tarantino how how he wanted them to play 2 aging actors on their way out, Tarantino said "Just be Yourselves"

There was a stuntman named Shorty Shea who went to Spahn Ranch and was killed by the Manson cult. So seeing Cliff drive off was a huge relief, just like in the end when Sharon isn't murdered. It was a small Once Upon a Time inside a larger Once Upon a Time. It's a literary construct, an inclusio. It's a story in a story. In the same style Quinton has a flashback in a flashback, with Cliff on the roof. There is sooo much about the story, the time, and the events that it is too much for a comments section. Good to see you liked it.

This is my favorite Tarantino film and I have them all. But, this one..Such a great "fantasy" film set in a real time. And let's be honest we all wish the ending was the real ending of this tragic story..

The best part of this movie is knowing the true part and seeing Tarantino's twist on the story. A what if the Manson killers went to another house instead.

This is my favorite Tarantino Film. The level of detail to create the late 60's world was amazing, you get completely enveloped in that time and place and all the radio ads while driving were super cool. Brilliant dialogue and performances and such a cathartic ending for what is such a horrific moment in history. I can watch this one over and over.

Tarantino actually penned the novelization for this movie, and he goes into a little of what happens to the characters after the events of Manson family attack. The events of that night gave Rick a new life in Hollywood. Once word starts getting around about how Rick Dalton killed a hippie that broke into his house with a flamethrower, he became popular again. So, much so that he and Cliff wrote and produced a series of movies where Rick plays a vigilante that gives out his own brand of justice that involves him killing criminals with a flamethrower. Those movies sort of became for him what the Death Wish movies were for Charles Bronson.

As a 20 years old kid, it’s really hard to get every detail nailed unless you read about 1960-70 movies and on the Mansons but still, it’s a great ending with a memorable punch at the end.

The thing to remember about Tarantino movies is that they're set in an alternate universe (very similar to our own, but with various details changed). The Tarantino-Verse is actually quite extensive and all inter-connected. Arguably my favourite filmmaker.

I wasn't expecting y'all to do this movie! Loved this reaction. I can understand with the pacing on why people didn't like this movie but I loved it. They did a phenomenal job with setting up the late 60s /70s vibe with the cars, the imagery, advertisement. Chefs kiss. I was so tense throughout the whole movie once I realized the way the movie was going but wow what an ending. Also love the planes trains and automobiles poster in the back.

the only movie i went back to watch on the big screen.. 5 times in one week .. ! and ..perfection. screenplay, production, music, acting ..what a joy and a nostalic look at the end of a period. what a year 69.. loved watching your reaction!

The Terry and Candy that Jay referred to while he was talking to Charlie was Terry Melcher, the son of Doris Day, and his girlfriend, Candace Bergen. Melcher was a music producer and had heard Manson perform (Manson considered himself an aspiring songwriter/singer) at a party held at Dennis Wilson's house (he was one of the Beach Boys). Manson was borderline stalking Melcher for help in getting a recording contract so that's why he was surprised to hear that Terry and Candy had moved. If I remember correctly, Manson was one of the reasons why they left. Squeaky, played by Dakota Fanning, was Squeaky Fromme, who later tried to assassinate President Gerald Ford. For the record, this is my favorite Tarantino movie and have seen it multiple times. I saw it in the theater, knowing that Tarantino was going to address the Sharon Tate tragedy. I was dreading the ending and then literally laughed during the entire final sequence. The final Once Upon a Time....In Hollywood at the end made me think if only... if only... so sad.

Manson and “the family” actually lived at Dennis Wilson’s house for a while, and The Beach Boys recorded two of his songs! Melcher was considering doing a record deal and film with Manson, until he realized what a lunatic he was. Breaking off contact made Manson angry.

Julia Butters the girl playing "Marabelle" opposite "Rick Dalton" in the western scene is an amazing little actress. She starred in the TV show "American Housewife". She is going to be a big time actress in the future.

I really recommend getting familiar with Charles Manson and then rewatch the movie. The Polanski mansion for example was previously owned by Terry Melcher, a music producer Manson had worked with, because his dream was to become a rock star. Melcher sold the house and fled from Manson who he was afraid of. The Spahn Movie Ranch scenes were shot at the actual Spahn Ranch where the Manson family used to live at that time. It used to be a movie set for old Western movies and tv shows such as Bonanza. Fun fact: The actor who plays Manson in the movie also played him in an episode of the show Mindhunter where FBI profiler visit and interview him in prison. It’s a brilliant yet disturbing scene. Damon Herriman is a brilliant actor.

I remember watching the movie in the theatre and, being familiar with the story, absolutely loving the showdown at the end of the movie. In the last scene, where Leo talks to Sharon you get reminded that this is not actually how this went down in real life. The music starts playing and you see the “once upon a time…” logo and it hit me, because yes, this movie is in fact a fairytale. I remember tearing up at the theatre.

The movie was a fairytale we wished was true. Once upon a time...... It was very satisfying to see what we wish would have happened to the Manson gang. The radio was great because it showed a time in America when most of us had shared culture with T.V, film and music. The shared experience for Americans had nothing to do with if your taste was different than other people, we still could relate to everything around us with our fellow Americans. A great time to be alive.

Great movie! Best parts of the film - the Stock coordinator was like he (Cliff) killed his wife and Cahill goes 'but c'mon man he is a war hero.' - and of course watching Cliff wreck the hippies - amazing movie. Cliff reminded me of a military buddy of mine Vinnie (18C) he had a crazy career, like 5 divorces, and always there to help out when you needed it.

This film was Tarantino's love-letter to this era of film and television. A very different Hollywood than what it later became, and currently is now. A lot of actors back then were genuinely tough, and had been through real life stuff, and simply went into acting to have an easier life than they once had. Now you have people that went to a film school or acting classes, and know someone or is related to another celeb that got them their roles. Just normal average people playing pretend for a living that didn't really earn their place in Hollywood.

I saw this movie in theaters. I went with my friend (we were the only teens in the theater it was full of adults) and her mom (because we weren't 18 yet) and I absolutely loved it, probably because I grew up watching Kill Bill with my dad. I was laughing and enjoying the ride, but when the fighting started in the last bit I was on the edge of my seat in awe of everything that was going on! I came out of the theater smiling and absolutely excited to talk about it. My friend enjoyed it (but less than I did) and her mom just didn't enjoy it at all, but this is one of the few times where I joined conversations with other people that were in there as well. We all stood in the lobby and talked excitedly about it for a while. Overall it was a great experience. 10/10 movie! I just need to get my parents to watch it now.

I read Helter Skelter in my teens and a few times since so I was really curious how all of that would be portrayed. I think they did an amazing job capturing who Sharon Tate was: beautiful, kind and a bit childlike. I admit I read spoilers of this beforehand because I didn’t want to watch if it showed the real massacre. I absolutely love how this ended but it was a little sad it wasn’t real.Otherwise it IS very realistic in the way they showed her and the Manson Family. Great, great movie!!

I also love the hatred for hippies that DiCaprio's character has it's so hilarious🤣

Wow! First time watching for me too and this was phenomenal! So many emotions throughout this movie too! I laughed so much, probably inappropriately sometimes, and I almost cried at the end thinking of what could have been. I didn’t expect that I’d get teary eyed at a Tarantino film, but I absolutely love it! And I have to agree- DiCaprio just gets better and better in each role. I HAVE to go watch the whole thing.

Great reaction to this!! Also your appreciation for various actors and older movies. The simulation of the hippies at the Spohn ranch was factual. Dakota Fanning played Squeaky Fromme. Fromme was later arrested for attempting to assassinate President Gerald Ford. George Spohn was played by famed actor, Bruce Dern. The hippie hitchhiker was played by Margaret Qualley, who received a Golden Globe nomination for Best Actress in the Netflix series Maid. In the last scene Margot Robbie is seen wearing a #17 football jersey. Sharon Tate was from Dallas, and that was a Dallas Cowboys jersey representing their quarterback at the time, Don Meredith.

When I saw this film for the first time it so accurately recreated LA from a period that I actually had childhood experiences that I actually started to freak out in the theater. Spoke to my old best friend who still lives there and he had had the exact same experience! Such a good film. Is it just me or is that ending painfully sad, considering what really happened?

First time viewer. . For someone who grew up in the 60's, 70's,. The ending was the most satisfying rewrite of history I've ever seen. It was what everyone who lived then wished had actually happened. Great review guys. Glad you did your homework before your comments on it. I get that younger kids don't fully understand the movie, but for us that lived it, loved it.

Interesting fact. The girl who drove away ran away from the Spahn Ranch and after Manson was arrested, testified against him in court. She was a genuine hippie into hippie ideals, totally opposed to killing.

This film is riveting throughout if you know all about the real-life Tate-Labianca murders; sluggishly paced if you don't. The third act is colossal for those of us who remember the real story.

I highly suggest you read the book Helter skelter which breaks down. What happened with the Tate and La Bianca Murders. And I remember watching this movie for the first time. I thought it was going to go down that dark road until like Tarantino likes to do. Put a spin on it and rewrite history. Which made me even sadder to think what Sharon Tate's life would have been if she had not been murdered that night.

The way Tatantino took the risk to rewrite this tragic story knowing that maestro Palanski would watch it and go through some terrible memories is just a brave ass move! It is one of the BEST movies I've ever watched! I'm glad to see your reaction to such a masterpiece! Epic! ♥

Loved that you guys noticed Zoe Bell. I got to know her through behind-the-scenes stuff for Xena. I'm not a huge Tarantino fan but I saw this in the theatre and the dog and the ending saved it for me.

What a great movie that was. Easily my favourite of the last five years, and top twenty of all time. Tarantino's best after Pulp Fiction. Amazing cast, great acting, fantastic production design and costumes and use of music. It's become one of those movies I can just sink into and watch and rewatch. Great stuff.

The only way i can describe this is incredible but also hinda horrid just cause the events. As a huge history nerd and true crime buff im kinda obsessed with alot of the 60 s and 70s. Such a great movie.

The director for the western was the oldest son on "The Sound Of Music". He also played the original Spiderman on the tv series in the seventies. Nicholas Hammond.

Someone else probably already said it, but the girl that sold Cliff the acid-dipped cigarette was Perla Haney-Jardine, or Uma Thurman's daughter BB from 'Kill Bill Vol. 2'. Plus of course George Spahn was Bruce Dern, who also appeared in 'Django Unchained' as the slave owner who sold Django and his wife separately and in 'The Hateful Eight' as the Confederate general character.
