You have to enjoy the little computer jokes. ^^ * The agents literally put a computer bug into Neo. * Neo had to accept the cookies from the oracle to proceed. * Oracle was one of the first major database companies in the 1990s, so it makes only sense to give her character that very name.

They invented the "bullet time" effect for this movie, no one had ever seen it before. As cool as you think it is now with modern VFX being the norm imagine how it looked to an audience who had never seen anything like it before. As soon as Trinity does that kick where the camera flies around her in the first minute or so of the movie you knew this was something completely different. After this movie the effect became overused for a few years. I'm glad that has faded because now you can watch this movie without thinking "I've seen this 100 times before." It's one of those rare movies that combines cutting edge VFX with a perfect script and cast (and directors). Truly a masterpiece.

Well, in fact it's an enhanced version of an effect form an Smirnof commercial made by special effects genius Michel Gondry (Eternal sunshine of a spotless mind, Science of sleep, tons of crazy video clips including Bjork or The chemical brothers...) The craziest is they did it with film cameras and not digital ones (to complex and expensive at the time). They used ramps of fast triggering cameras and had to process the films then scan them for the compositing. If one roll from the batch was damaged in the process, the whole shot would had been inusable

For instance, the book Neo uses to stash the minidisc he sells early in the movie is "Simulacra and Simulation" described by Wikipedia thusly: "Simulacra and Simulation is a 1981 philosophical treatise by the sociologist Jean Baudrillard, in which the author seeks to examine the relationships between reality, symbols, and society, in particular the significations and symbolism of culture and media involved in constructing an understanding of shared existence."

Indeed. You recall the scene with Cypher where he's surprised by Neo and Neo asks him if they always watch the Matrix encoded. Cypher replies that they have to, but they get used to it. "I don't even see the code anymore. All I see are, {points to each monitor in turn} blonde, brunette, redhead." In the end, Neo did exactly the opposite: he sees the code underneath the Matrix while he's in it. And because he can see it, he can manipulate it (he is a computer programmer and hacker, after all).

This was a great reaction! It's awesome that this movie can still wow new viewers, even with the effects that have been done in the years since. Couple things to note: In 1999, CGI was still relatively new. No one had seen this many effects shots in a single film, and it worked so well, I think this film has actually aged pretty well. Glad you enjoyed this one, the Matrix is an amazing classic. So happy I got to see this in theaters!

VFX were around before this movie, (Jurassic park and Jumanji) but the flawless integration of human and virtual objects had not been so well executed. Until this movie. Plus the integration of Martial art wire movie techniques had never been done in a major Hollywood feature film. Which allowed for the level of realism in the live action scenes. So it was still grind breaking.

@WizardOfOss
@WizardOfOss 3 жыл бұрын
The interesting thing is that still many shots that would now be 100% CG were still partially practical. Like the bullet time scenes, which used ingenious camera rigs to film the actual actors. And I think that in part is why this film stood the test of time so well. Better than the sequels if you'd ask me, even when those raised the bar on special effects even higher, they also had a few rather dubious scenes where characters are too obviously fake.

The Oracle DOES actually say he's The One. Neo just misunderstands her. She tells him. "You got the gift. But it seems like you're waiting for something. Another life, perhaps." This movie was an incredible thing when it first came out, nobody had ever seen anything quite like it before. If you watch this movie again (or any of the sequels,) you will notice that the lighting is different between the two worlds. You really don't notice it, but you'll find that the matrix has a different color pallet than "the real world," and it's something that does register in your brain, but not something you really notice as users are moving back and forth between the worlds. You realize that something's different, but you're not sure what.

The oracle tells trinity that she would fall in love with the one, so until she does, he's not the one? But then what about morpheus. He was told he would find the one and he did at the start of the movie. So is Neo the one as soon as morpheus finds him? Others believe he's only the one once Neo himself starts to believe. There are credible scientists who have studied the subject and estimate that our odds of actually being inside a simulated world, right now, is just a little under 50%.... and that is only because we, ourselves, do not have the capability yet to create our own fully realistic virtual worlds. Once we figure our own way to do that, the chance that we, ourselves, are living in a simulation, will rise above 50%. It's a sobering subject.

Lol, that's pretty funny. When I went back to see the second one in the theater the sound cut out during an action sequence so the audience started making the sound effect noises with their mouths and making up dialogue whenever someone on screen would speak. Luckily most of us there had already seen it before so it wasn't too big a deal.
