FAQ: (Questions that are asked to me OFTEN, will answer here)
Q: Why is the video in TWO Parts?
A: Copyright reasons. I can show more of the movie to you guys within multiple parts. Depending on the movie I might do THREE parts or sometimes just ONE.
Q: Why is a small portion of the video completely muted?
A: Copyright reasons. Sometimes I get hit with copyright claims AFTER the video has already been posted, my only choice is to refute the claim but if KZfaq denies it, I have to either take down the video or mute the small portion they are claiming. If the video has been up for a while, it is much easier for me to mute this small portion in the YT studio and then unmute it months later after people aren't watching the video as much.
Q: Why is the movie not as loud as I want it to be, why can't you show more of it uncut?
A: Copyright reasons. Notice a pattern here? Most of your questions will likely be answered with some type of copyright related reason.
Q: Why is the movie footage flipped?
A: Again, copyright reasons. I am watching the movie the normal way, it is only flipped for the video.

I think what really helps you not suspect that Malcolm is dead, is that all the other ghosts have an ominous, stereotypical 'ghost with unfinished business' vibe - the huge bruises, head wounds, anger, hanging, pale faces etc. Whereas Malcolm appears so calm and ordinary, with no obvious wounds physically and just ordinary problems like a seeming struggling marriage, that he contrasts deeply with the obvious ghosts. Only we, the audience, see Malcolm as he sees himself, but Cole apparently knew he was a ghost.
@jp3813

It also helped him that he didn't know that this is a ghost story until Cole said the iconic line.

It isn't exactly shown in the movie directly, but Cole see's the ghosts as they are when they died; so he saw Malcolm with the bullet wounds. You even see Cole grimace in one of the scenes when he sees Malcolm from the back; no doubt where the bullet exitted his body.

Also she was worried about her little sister. If you listen to some of the adults talk you can hear them saying that the younger sister was starting to show similar symptoms, so she was also poisioning the younger sister. While the iconic marketing for the movie was a significant factor in its success, it also caused some people to guess the twist at the end of the story. As this reaction showed, the narrative isn't supposed to reveal the existence of ghosts until Cole's confession. In the scene at the little girl’s house some of the mourners are talking about how the younger sister is exhibiting some of the same symptoms of the girl who passed. They say it as if they believe the younger is now coming down with the same disease that killed the first, but then you realize the mother had moved on to making that child sick. So the ghost is saving her little sister by getting Cole to give the father that tape.

Fun Fact: The Latin phrase Cole speaks in the church when he first meets Malcolm, "De profundis clamo ad te domine," translates to "Out of the depths, I cry to you, O Lord." Remember how Cole advised Malcolm he could speak to his wife, while she's sleeping? This makes me think Cole knew all along Malcolm was dead, and he was giving Malcolm a way to reach her because she didn't have the sixth sense. "They don't know they're dead, they see what they want to see?" And yet he can see that they're dead, even if they cannot. He's telling that aspect of his secret to Malcolm, not just to detail to his analyst the reality of his daily existence, but to see if it rings a bell at all with him. He probably could even see the gunshot wound the entire time, while Malcolm could not. And if you notice (as I'm guessing Cole did), all of the clothes that Malcolm wears throughout the movie are variations on the clothes he was wearing or touched the day he died. A doctor who wears the same clothes (with some mixing and matching) the entire time he knows him? And some of them with that big soaking wound visible? Cole eventually buys into Malcolm's suggestions to talk to the scary ones, because Malcolm (relatively speaking) was not one of the scary ones, and that's been working out pretty good. "I'm not gonna *see* you again, am I?" at the end there -- the kid wasn't talking about therapy, he was talking about _seeing_ him. He knew through interacting with Malcolm, that he was a good one, and was just trying to keep on doing what he'd done in life, help kids like him. Cole knew it bothered Malcolm that he couldn't help that one boy that he was like. But now, flush with the successes of helping Kyra (played by a young Mischa Barton!) expose her murdering mom, and having such a good performance in his play after following Malcolm's advice, he knows he's also helped Malcolm by helping himself, and won't 'see him' again because Malcolm's 'unfinished business' has concluded. Cool twist, cool movie!

I loved this reaction! For YEARS I had no clue the former patient, Vincent Gray, who shoots Dr. Crowe is played by Donnie Wahlberg of New Kids on the Block, Blue Bloods tv show and husband of Jenny McCarthy. He lost 43 lbs and used a pretty intense method technique for the role.

I'll tell you a funny story about the first time I saw this movie (ALL THE SPOILERS AHEAD): I watched this with a classmate in community college. We watched it at her grandma's house after school one afternoon. Anyway, after the opening scene and the time jump, I blurted out snarkily "so what, is he dead the whole time?" My friend (who had already seen the movie) turned to look at me incredulously, and without missing a beat, just said casually like I was being dumb, "no, that's stupid." And I bought it completely. For the rest of the movie, I completely dismissed the possibility. When they ending came, I don't know what was more amusing, my reaction as I looked back and forth between my friend and the TV, or her face as she knew everything. I had guess it correctly all along, but she fooled me out of my own thinking. It was great. That's a true friend! LOL

This is one of those movies you DO want to watch again. It won't have the same effect obviously now that you know... but now that you know, you can see it in a whole different light. How obvious it seems with all of the clues right there, and yet few people ever realize the twist the first time they watch it. That is a testament to how well done this movie is. Our brains are designed to fill in the blanks when we're not given the full story, so we just assume what we don't know.... and M. Night Shyamalan took full advantage of that in a brilliant way.

Shyamalan said that Osment was the only child actor he'd ever worked with who had read the whole script and actually understood the whole film, rather than just playing scenes. His performance in 'A.I.', a flawed but worthwhile film, can be heartbeaking.

Hello Mr Fusion. I'm an avid movie fan and I just today ran across your channel. You asked a question which I think I know the answer to. I mostly know about US and Mexican customs in this area. There are some private funerals, but MOST funerals are open to the public. (I did a quick google question and that's also what it said) I recently showed the 6th sense to a friend and I enjoyed watching him figure it out as I enjoyed watching you do the same. And from your inserted comment I see you wisely rewatched it. It's a different movie when you KNOW what's going on. I mostly watch great movies. Actually my entire art enterprise is to see as many of the BEST works as I can. Contemplating the 'Twist' genre traditionally you have The Twilight Zone, Hitchcock movies, Fight Club, Parasite, Clover Field, Citizen Kane, and although some critics don't like them, The rest of shyamalan's output. I for one enjoyed 'Old' You have lots of great movies ahead, enjoy. Jim Mexico Retired

Great reaction. The mother of the little girl who died was suffering from Munchausen's Syndrome, or Munchausen by Proxy. It's a mental illness where the caretaker of a child - usually female (mothers) - either convince a child they're sick by suggestion, or, as in this case, physically cause a child to become ill, many times leading to the death of the child (you'll notice one of the guests at the funeral reception mentioned the little sister was now becoming sickly?). I think it's an attempt to fill a psychological void of the caretaker (mother) to be NEEDED.

The twist surprises most people when watching this movie and that is something that M.Night did so very well in his first few movies. This one is by far my favorite and also it was the first one he ever made. The doctor that Cole's mother took him to was in fact M.Night himself. I loved your reaction to this movie and for the record seeing ghosts is not a mental disorder it just happens either because one is born with it like a Medium or because someone has a near death experience and comes back from the brick of death there for they had one foot on the other side. Also sometimes those who are sick with a deadly sickness can also see them. The beauty of this movie is not only did Malcom need to help Cole where he failed Vincent but also Cole was able to help Malcom get his closure with his wife by telling him to speak to her in her sleep. Cole always knew Malcom was a ghost and that is why he ran from him at the beginning but when he saw that Malcome was nice and wasn't there to hurt him he decided to talk with him and see where it goes for them both. The scene in the car with Cole and his mother gets me crying everytime I see it...such a grate preformence from them both at that moment.

The fact that you had gone this long and not known the twist is pretty freaking impressive. good job on that end. My next door neighbor showed it to me shortly after it came on VHS and i was absolutely FLOORED by the ending going WTF, as i Know many other people did as well . It's just now become well known... so again. Pretty impressed you were able to see it without knowing the twist. One thing I remember noting the first time I watched it. The girl's mother was in a bright red dress when everyone was wearing black. MAJOR WTF moment when I first saw it and said it out loud, too!!! There's probably a video on youtube that was also on the VHS going over all the clues that were spread throughout the movie. (In particular off the top of my head ...clothing. Not just the dress). And one thing I recently found out (or it had been ingrained so far back in my brain I don't ever remember knowing it) the actor in the beginning who shoots Malcolm.... is Mark Wahlberg.

The little girl was being poisoned by her mother and the mother was moving on to the younger daughter. That’s why the dead girl wanted to get the video to her father! Haley Joel Osment has some great movies! He played little Forest Gump at the end of that movie. But my favorite movies he had a major role in are: Pay It Forward, Secondhand Lions and The Sixth Sense!

When you watch it a second time you can really see how no one else interacts with Malcolm. It’s so shocking the first time though. Amazing acting by everyone in this movie. I love the scene in the car with his mom. I always cry. Toni Colette is brilliant. That child actor Haley Joel Osment won a Saturn award for this movie and was nominated for an Oscar and golden globe for this performance.

Music mostly only comes up when John Williams is doing the score, like in the "Star Wars" franchise or "Schindler's List". Some folks have commented on how much Danny Elfman contributes to a film, especially the soundtrack to "Edward Scissorhands". The music for "The Exorcist" is also fairly well-known to be by Mike Oldfield. But yes, people don't talk enough about what the score contributes to the film in terms of context, atmospherics, or mood. "...hang it in the bathroom." I knew someone whose father worked on the Manhattan Project, a scientist who helped to develop the triggering system to explode the bombs used to vaporize Hiroshima & Nagasaki. The scientist received an award from the govt for his work. The scientist hung it in his bathroom. The inference was that he was ashamed of his part in this atrocity and angry at the govt for conning him into participating. Maybe Dr Crowe felt he had failures that made him feel he did not deserve such an award. Remember how Malcolm's wife described that antique ring? That people can imprint onto physical objects? She was projecting how she felt about her husband's ring, that she carried with her in grief. She couldn't let him go until he came to her in her sleep and reassured her that she was never ever 'second'. Also, remember him walking away from breaking the door glass (when the guy almost kissed Malcolm's wife and she was about to kiss back)? When the shot moved to a front view, Malcolm had his hand partly down behind his belt. He was feeling the pain from where the bullet had entered, probably because his wife's attention had momentarily moved away from Malcolm to the new guy. So long as she was in denial & grief over his death, he was still "alive". I would like to suggest you rewatch the film from Cole's perspective. Cole is targeted by all these horrific & often brutal ghosts. Then comes this ghost who follows him, won't leave him alone, almost like a stalker. Over time he realizes this ghost Malcolm only wants to help. Go from beginning to their last scene; the movie becomes an entirely different film. It becomes COLE's story then. And it is just as interesting as MALCOLM's story. This film is so masterfully done, the acting so good, the pacing so well done... I personally have found it tremendously rewatchable. Each time I watch, I find stuff I missed that contributed to the film in various ways. It's economical in the elements used in its makeup; nothing is extraneous. It's satisfying to watch as things resolve, and it's interesting to see what how I as a viewer was as blind to certain clues as dead people are to their condition. It's fascinating how we rationalize things and fool ourselves; why wouldn't we do the same thing if some part of our consciousness survives physical death? And on this point, I don't see this film as a horror story or even a ghost story, though it's clothed in that genre, but as a spiritual story as well as a tale about love and reconciliation and resolution.
