In this day/week/weekend in my gay/lgbt/lgbtq+ life in Japan, I visited my ex-homophobic dad for the first time since I came out to him in December. It's been such a growth process for everyone involved. This is also Stewie's first time back in Shizuoka since he left, so it was just a rollercoaster of emotions. I'm glad we all got to spend time with each other! Happy Pride!

I love how you talked about compromise, understanding and learning from each other 😢 my mother had been an extremely toxic parent who would refuse change and growth (would constantly say things like “we Chinese families don’t behave/believe in things like that” etc even on very basic things like women gaining independence)….I’m living vicariously through you guys as you’re healing your relationship with your father, wishing you all the best❤

Hey, that sounds tough. I'm trying to wrap my head around it. My boyfriend is Chinese and he says "We Chinese don't do x...." but he only states it to describe differences between my people and his people, and does not condemn not push others to conform. I'll be wary if we have kids if he starts to say this, I will tell him how it affects them.

The fact that Steven stood next to them the whole time with a happy little smile radiates so much of a comfort scene to me. My older brother and me were brought up from a tough love asian household, our parents hardly reveal much affection. We grew up touch starved, especially my brother, when he's a men, his world view would be even harder than mine. I'm practicing to heal and be more affectionate towards people who I value highly, esp my narcissistic mom who's showing a sense of aware these days and I think I should give her a chance. Shout out to courageous people who's breaking the cycle like Stan :) I hope things will turn out okay, If it's not okay, it's not the end.

You probably wont see this but I've been subscribed for 2 years now, started watching when there were like only 2 videos, and this video had me tearing up. I remember how much you and Stewie struggled and how you both did not have a close relationship with your dad. The growth in this video was so wholesome and heartwarming. It really fits different when you can really understand the whole scene with Stan’s dad without the subtitles since I’m a Filipino gay boy myself, the whole scene is just so touching and I’m really glad they were able to have that quality bond and connection as a family. I long for a relationship with my father too, but I don't think I can morally forgive him for doing p3do and violent things to me as a kid. As a parent with a gay son, you guys have to understand that it also takes a lot change in mindset and adjustment on the part of the parent. In fact I had always thought of myself as a progressive thinker and accepting of different genders but hits different if it involves your children. So just give them a bit of time to get them to accept it.

Watching them mend their relationship with their dad has really inspired me to also become closer with my dad. My dad is the type of Filipino dad who’s always been more authoritarian and traditional, and being 2nd gen born in the US, I feel like we never saw eye-to-eye with our values. We’d always get into verbal fights when I was growing up, and I always thought we’d never get along for as long as lived! But as I’m getting older and am now living on my own, i realize how much I really mean to my dad. Now we both are trying to find compromise and do things that we both enjoy, like going grocery shopping together or going fishing! This series has honestly helped me so much 🫶

So happy for this. Since I've moved out, the dynamics with my dad had also changed for the better. I feel like the distance worked wonders, now we look forward to the littlest things. Lunch, going to the beach, just walking around the mall or even running errands. I'm thankful we've all found ways to heal and work towards being whole again.
