One thing most people overlook. When climbing outdoors on bolted routes always try to clip the carabiner so the gate is on the same side as the bolt. If you don't do that there is a slight chance your rope pulls the carabiner up and the gate unclips. I have seen in the past. It does not take a lot of effort. Keep it in mind please.

What do you mean, "same side as the bolt."? Please explain. I do a ton of sport climbing, I am trying to visualize exactly what you are saying. Are you the redoubtable Dave MacLeod perchance? The badass climber from Scotland? Either way, please elucidate, I would love to know! Thanks.

@@ananda_miaoyin Hey! no worries brother! When you bolt a route the bolt comes with a nut, to screw it tight and a hanger, basically the bit where you clip your carabiner in. So when you clip your carabiner to the hanger do it hooking the fix bit of the carabiner into the hanger so the gate ends up on the side of the bolt and the fix bit on the side of the hanger. I hope you can visualise that. I think best way is to clip a carabiner to a bolt/hanger and turn it upside down and see it yourself. If the carabiner is on the wrong side there a chance that you can unclip it by wiggling it about a wee bit. Try it and see what happens. It is rare but it happens sometimes. I hope that helps. and by the way I am not Dave. Please ask again if it is not clear. Happy to help right here

@@MrSilencetreatment Really appreciate that. I never considered that a sport bolt had a preferred way of hanging the carabiner in it.
@MrSilencetreatment2 жыл бұрын
@@ananda_miaoyin no worries. As I said it is a rare scenario but it can happen and can be easily avoided. It all happens when the carabiner is turned upside down due to the drag on the rope and because of the slant angle of the hanger where the carabiner is clipped in. Thanks brother and enjoy your climbs

This stuff makes my hands sweat watching it. I used to be I the Army. Have jumped out of planes. Rock climbed and assailed loads but for some reason rock climbing scares the shit out of me. My knees shake and it's terrifying. Wierd how some things affect us differently. Hats off to anyone who does this sport.

Always amazes me how a normal person like myself would see that as a virtually flat stone, like I could never imagine a person even finding a single hold on that, let alone climbing the entire thing

Great content, awesome stuff. But not sure about that first cam - under the little wing off the main flake - looks like it would pop off if the cam was loaded.

Great Video ! One question: I would call myself a climbing beginner and I've been watching some technique videos about the position of the hips. Most of them recommend to turn the hips sideways to the wall but it seems that you are not using this method, and placing the parallel to the wall. Is their no possibility in that route to turn sideways or does it make no sense for you at all?
@anvariel46 жыл бұрын
judging by the video (as a more advanced climber) i would say that in this route there is no need for it
@anvariel46 жыл бұрын
He is placing his hip more by sidesteping
@dukeofnuke24466 жыл бұрын
You don't really need that in such routes since you can stand pretty good

Blackferret Don’t listen (BLINDLY) to everything others are saying. Sure, practice it, but know that everything people teach doesn’t work in all situations. Just get out, have fun and climb as much as possible. Your technique will develop with time.
@eastongallegos12726 жыл бұрын
A lot are also saying turn your hips into the wall to increase your reach. He had the perfect reach for most of those holds so there would have been no need. But, he did do lots of side pulls that you might be able to learn from. Not advanced, but something that most people really do need to work on.
