It's much more difficult than becoming an IT power. Modern semiconductors are more difficult to make than nuclear weapons or space rockets. The amount of intellectual property across thousands of industries required to produce modern chips is not something one can set up from scratch.

Yessss, Very lucrative field to learn and earn a hell lot of money. My brother is a chip design verificator and his starting salary as a fresher was 40 lacs per annum + company stocks and many more facilities with great company culture. His seniors who have 3-4 years of experience are earning 70 lacs and above...So only the sky is the limit. But this field in itself is very elite and it's difficult to get into the top semiconductor companies if you're not from 5 old IITs and 1-2 old NITs.

Indian managed to conceive and produce supercomputers (see C-DAC, PARAM,...) and cryogenic rocket engines. They will manage to design and produce chips and semiconductors !

Toys, electrical appliances, packing materials, utensils, Large scale specialized diary products, Sea food products, electrical fittings, fertilizer, concrete bricks, iron-steel, recycling waste etc. Make use of huge skilled and educated manpower.

It's commercially and economically more viable. There is no problem of setting it somewhere else but because alot of business hubs as well as gift city exist in Gujarat it will boost the forces and resources. The logistics and materials will be easily available for the business at cheap rates. Don't worry Gujarat is in India and it will be indian success not individual state success.

Its based on business reasons not wishful thunking. Companies will choose those areas which is suitable , where laws are business friendly, where logistics are easy. Its the duty of States to attract business . PM only encourgaes them to come to India and gives them steong options that will encourgae them to establisj plants.

Chips or water shortages. If India insists on chips instead of fixing it's water issues the highly water intensive chips will be a huge mistake. Water is the building block of society. Social media platforms are giving way to ai. Where is India. Semiconductors are old tech and India needs to catch up so why not try to catch up in social media or ai instead of making chips that will destroy the environment

@@kashyap_0-0_ agreed. India has good talent in chip design, but nothing in manufacture. Instead of putting money into drones, ai, green tech, agriculture etc, which are new emerging technologies, it's going into older 28nm semiconductor tech that the world has excessive capacity now. Chips designed in India may never be built in India if the process does not match orthe parent company does not want to certify a tata fab. You should look into the whole process of who actually manufactures the chips used in Indian products and designed by Indians. Just because India has a car factory does not mean Audi will build cars in India. Similarly with semiconductor fabs. Most of this is just planning. Let's see if India really becomes a hub. In 2020 import drones were banned in the hopes India would become a drone hub. It would be nice to see follow through.

Yes India been saying being Global chip power since US chip ban on China started. So India don`t just all talk do it. Frankly I supported it 100% more chip manufacturing will make it harder for any power to play ban and also mare breakthrough as REAL competition will bring forth innovation. Still waiting for Quantum computing, it supposed to came out soon but US chip sanction make China delay it to focus on chip processing and in term delay the advancement of next era of computing.

this govt passed fab subsidy in 12 months, thats record time anywhere in world, the present govt means business but they have to go up 3 more levels, think out of box to complete projects before time, like 24/7 rotational labor policy, plugged in 24/7 design institutes, superior encrypted internet, tax less access to water and green energy
