Balikatan 2024: US Warns China Over "Dangerous" Moves Against Philippines | From The Frontline
The Philippines is holding its largest-ever annual exercise Balikatan 2024 with the United States and friendly allies from Asia, Oceania and Europe. Attending for the first time is France. Meanwhile, nations like India, Australia, Vietnam, South Korea, Japan, Germany and the United Kingdom are participating as military observers. This year will be the largest edition of exercise Balikatan in its 39 years of history. The Marines, Navy, Air Force and Army of the US and Philippines will practice island defence and attack in the South China Sea or the West Philippine Sea around the scarborough shoal and Spratly islands. Defence of islands near Taiwan will be the main criterion. Meanwhile, China has warned Manila against the drills. The exercise comes at a time when India recently delivered the BrahMos supersonic cruise missile to the Philippines in a major boost in ties for both nations.

I think the Balikatan Exercises should also practice manuevers at sea which should focus on measures of countering the unauthorized incursions in the WPS by China coupled with its bullying tactics by way of employing water cannons and ship-ramming methods. Perhaps if the Philippines had thicker hulled ships and faster boats, the chinese bully would soon come to realize that its forcible annexation of atolls and sandbars in our country's EEZ will be an exercise in futility.
