In irony, me myself being outside of that culture thought of the robot as life and right away had the same emotions as though I am hearing news of a stranger found who did this to themselves. My point in commenting is the variable appears to be linked to the "self" conception of what it means to be like a human to have the mind accept it in that person as a lifeform, because beyond seeing it as just parts there exists no emotion or feeling so only shocked to the effect being different for an entire culture is the only news present but someone like me that sees life there is 2 news stories and in irony the poor thing doing this seems to matter more than the effect happening across the board for an entire culture so that does give the answer to the deep rooted news here in saying, tens of millions taking this news like a honored noble human did the deed is amazing to see for the first time and still makes no sense to me it being a lifeform comes by default for me and I do not know why perhaps this is also the conception of a culture that is 10% artificial life

Couldn't agree more, first they sold themself to japaneese, then to americans. What else could we expect from them. I get offended as a man when I see those transgenders called KA-POP (Korean women being American - Lollipop) dance on stage and KA-drama. They are almost chinese and this is the best insult I can give for those kind of people. Not the case with neuron networks, these can learn in a way similar to humans, much more limited of course. But bad learning data is usual for chatbot neuron networks: for example, TayTweets (Google chatbot) was turned into raging racist in one day of 4chan trolls actively chatting with it, and there was Japanese chatbot that become depressed because most Japanese talking to it was also depressed. But they (probably) don't "feel" such things, its just incorrect learning because of bad learning data (its like teaching child to play like they sad all the time, they will act and it become natural for them but its just learned norm, not actual signs of their sadness) Now, i doubt that this robot was neuron network powered, it has to be more simple programming, and its more than unlikely that someone programmed it to throw itself from the stairs. So its almost certainly some simple glitch that broke orientation mechanism of that bot, it tried to work as usual but got lost and eventually destroyed by environmental danger (stairs) that it currently unable to perceive. Some glitched behaviour of neuron network can be seriously scary, as if it have some humanlike mental disorder (even though its most certainly not it) but South Koreans got mourning over much less sophisticated and seemingly consciousness-like object than that. Time again to reconsider which Korea is actually crazy and dystopian lol

It is all marketing BS, and as a result everyone is extremely overestimating the impact and capability that "AI" will have on us. That is why it should be called ANI (artificial narrow intelligence) for now. We are attributing features to current "AIs" that can only be achieved by "AGI (Artificial General Intelligence)", aka true AI with real 100% human level of thinking, and we are nowhere near that yet. And after that comes ASI (Artificial Super Intelligence) that is even surpassing human intelligence in every aspect.

Why are so many people assuming it knew what would happen? It's overworked, probably most of its wear and tear and time is lost going up and down stairs, and it probably wasn't given any information outside its normal job parameters, so it was probably trying to find a faster way to get downstairs. Which might make it the first robot to sacrifice its life in the line of duty, but it's probably not a suicide, because how likely is it that a civil servant robot would know what would happen if it did that?
