Italy's Prime Minister, Giorgia Meloni, was in Tunisia again this week. It was her fourth visit to the country over the past year. During the trip, Meloni met the President of Tunisia, Kais Saied. After the meeting, Meloni announced that Italy would give Tunisia 105 million Euros in the form of both cash and credit. Meloni is giving Tunisia this much money because she hopes that the north African country can help her stem the tide of migrants making their way to Europe via Italy. Tunisia is often an exit ramp for migrants seeking to make their way to Europe. But what happens when Italy stops paying Tunisia for its services?

Why not??? When Europe saw an influx of African migration @1990s-2000's; EU was quick to shut it down by punishing arrivals via airports; dictating to the nation leaders by lecturing them about human rights and placed those suspect nations on a warn list rating their improvement by demanding implementations of EU standards....Why is it wrong to ask Tunisia to stem the flow of its nationals leaving their country when it is they have initial responsibility for their citizens; and besides, are these also not the same nations that lecture the rest of us about poor moral-religious standards!?!?!?!

In a real world this is called “self interest” Why should Tunisia block the sub Saharan Africans that wants to go to Europe, Tunisia didn’t colonize or steal their resources to feel obliged to block them without any European support.

The vast majority of these poor people in Africa are leaving to avoid war. One of many war started by US neocons. Libya was a prosperous oil producing country. A country that could absorb the migrants trying to escape other wars further south. This africa to europe migration started ONLY after the UK, France, and the US destroyed Libya. Similarly the US support of Al Quida and its bombing of Syria led to millions fleeing war in Syria into Europe. And closer to home, US sanctions on Venezuela and multiple CIA backed coups in Hondurus has caused multiple waves of millions to the US-Mexico border.
