The suspension setup on the Merc is sublime, like an old school rallycross car.

It's cool that Mercedes did homologate the R107 for rally, the 450SLC 5.0, but the rear suspension is pretty compromised in that car. Swing axle rear suspension is notorious for causing rollovers...

Verdamp lang her ...😢 Aber schön das es wieder stattfinden kann. Ich kenne Fishtown aus einer Zeit als es in Halle X noch Fischbarverkauf gab, als Seebeckwerft noch existierte und die Lloydwerft noch nicht dem Chinesen gehörte und die Weihnachtsfeiern bei Natusch gefeiert wurden.

Full likes! ese MB coupé era una joya, casi sensual. Acá en Asunción de Paraguay hubo uno de esos ejemplares corriendo rallyes en los 70s, al mando de Elpidio Caballero , ya falllecido, driver de Mercedes Benz Paraguay. Muy lindo y fuerte coche ese 280, casi indestructible...

like so many other comments, I was and am here for the Mercedes. Is that a 500, sure looks like it, especially with that wing (definitely a 500 according to results, finished 22nd) Difficult to read the trunk badge. Regardless, as a Mercedes collector and restorer, it is great to see one in competition. Rare.
