Betta fish learned to jump through hoops! His mom, our producer Carolina, talked to the guy who started the whole fish training craze. His goldfish is the Guinness World Record holder for most fish tricks!

New studies show fish remember faces for at least 5 years, show affection, and can learn tricks - there is a guy out there who taught his goldfish foosball from a custom tank he made. They all have sentience, and we should be doing better by them.

Couldn't agree more and have been preaching this fundamental truth for as long as I can remember. There are so many possibilities and to simply write off animals and their ability to interact with the world in a more complex way than we currently understand seems incredibly ignorant.

The best fish story was on a Craigslist favorites list. Guy walks into the pet shop and asks for the worst off fish they have. Its a beta fish thats sickly that just exists. He buys and applies the meds and visits and talks to the fish. His color comes back and the fish is so excited to see the guy who seeks to make this sole fish happy. Too bad we dont even treat each other this way. So many lessons to learn from this!

I never would have guessed that little fish like that could do tricks. Or even be taught to do tricks. But that's pretty cool I had four goldfish that I transferred from a medium sized bowl into a full-sized aquarium and where I had them located they could see the tv. And when the old old old old episodes of Roseanne came on, they would all line up at the corner of the aquarium and they would watch a full episode of Roseanne for a half hour. They wouldn't do it for any other show I don't know why that maybe it was colorful. But that was those goldfish and they were named Ricky Lucy Fred and Ethel😂😂❤❤🐠🐠

I had 3 goldfish - each with its special personality: One timid, one greedy with food and the third one very playfull and curious! He used to surf in the filter stream on the water surface, swim through tiny rings and follow me when I was near the tank. very sadly he always wanted to get out of that tank and found the little air gap in the cover glass where he jumped out. I had to rescue him several times from the floor until one day he was out too long. I loved this fish :(

I also had a fish that did super interesting things, much like you are describing. Sadly, he too would leap out. I learned a long time ago that friendship with humans isn't always in a wild animal's best interest, we can't always protect them from things they are exposed to because of our friendship. Anyway, I'll never forget that fish.

I had a betta fish who would swim up whenever I got near my desk with his tank after coming back from school. Now I have a convict cichlid who swims up for food and shakes whenever I get close. However, when anyone else comes up to feed it, it swims down to the corner of the tank and doesn’t take the food like when I feed it. Fish can be special pets just as much as dogs and cats.

I feel like most Betta fish owners already know this. They're known as very sociable, interactive fish with their owners. My sibling owned one that would very specifically greet them by swimming to the surface to be brushed by their fingers in the water. There's more upstairs in these creatures than we credit them and far more than enough reason for shops to stop selling them in horribly-tiny little bags of water.

@user-wv8ju3dw8s This was more personal experience! I often visited a friend who had beta that kept dying. She expected him to live a short life too so she kept asking Are You Dead Yet? Eventually the fish thought that was his name and responded to it. It was too long of a name so we shortened it to Aydy and he took to that as his name too. Ironically he lived to be the longest living beta she had at 2.5 years old with an interest in rabbit themed things and was able to do spin arounds for food

@@lisanguyen6324 It's very interesting that he had an interest in rabbit themed things! Sounds like Aydy lived a happy life. I hope the tank was big, and that there wasn't any loneliness.
