I have a Fisher 500, one of the first series I believe 1957. Came in a very elaborate extremely well made console with a reel to reel and phonograph. It is a very nice looking and sounding radio. I am sure this console cost a fortune back in the day with how detailed the console cabinet is. One of these winters I am going to fully restore all the components and freshen up the beautiful cabinet.

Fisher made outstanding audio products back in the day. You are correct that they were big bucks back in the day. This 800-C retailed for $450 in 1963. That would be around $4500 in 2023 dollars.

@@vintageaudioaddict Yeah, I figure with how elaborate the wood work is on this console, the thing probably cost half the price of a new car back then. If you like, I could send you some pictures of it. I scoured the internet trying to find a picture of this console to never find anything close to this. It has to be around 6 feet long or better. Someone yanked out the speakers a long time ago and put in some nice midrange speakers but never put new woofers back in it. From the speakers they used I would guess they did that in the 70's.

Yes, she is. I'm amazed that the older stereo equipment like this 800-C built in 1963 can still be enjoyable to listen to in 2023.

Had a Marantz 2385 receiver I purchased new back in 1978 while TDY in the UK. It was powerful, feature-rich, and sounded awesome. I ended up giving it away because one of the channels went out on it. I now kick myself in the butt because I had since learned electroncs and how to repair all types of electronic equipment (learned while in the USAF). The receiver looked new as I take care of my equipment. I wish I had it back. Subscribed.

Based in L.I.C Queens NY! That is where Fisher was! I once owned a Fisher 250-T Receiver with the Stereo beacon and Tune-O-Matic! 30 solid state watts per channel RMS!

Chris, I assume you're going to restore this lovely beast (or maybe have restored it and videoed your proceedings). I remember these receivers - thanks to the heat from all those tubes on the crowded chassis, often they needed lots of capacitors replaced after a few years. The power supply used to eat its filter caps for lunch and then want more for dinner. But glorious sound! And lots of grunt for the time: if I remember correctly, the 800C cranked out 25 or 30 wpc into 8 ohms.

Hey Thomas, She's all restored including the filter caps. I just have never done a video on it. The video's take more time then the restorations. Yup, she does about 30 watts a side, a little more. Really sounds good. Thanks for watching.

@@vintageaudioaddict When I was in high school in the early 1960's, a well-to-do lawyer friend of the family bought a Fisher 800C and drove a pair of AR 3A's with it. "Tube watts" seemed to stretch farther than "transistor watts" back in the day.

so what's the "center speaker" terminals next to the impedance selection all about?
@vintageaudioaddict
@vintageaudioaddict Жыл бұрын
Those are used if you want to run a third speaker. I guess the idea was that you could run a speaker to some remote location. I've always stayed with the normal left and right two channel setup.
@XX-121

@@vintageaudioaddict yeah or like it says, the center. it's just something you usually don't see. i guess it somehow pulls power/signal from L/R? kind of like you use to sometimes see 2ch car audio amplifiers, in the manual it would show a diagram to where you could wire them up to power 2 speakers and a sub, but was really obviously not an optimal setup being there were no crossovers being used so you never actually saw them used that way.

@@vintageaudioaddict Haha, yeah, I meant the female voice that is reading off all of the technical specs and stuff about that receiver, just like an advertisement from the factory. I didn't mean the woman who was introducing it, saying "I hate all this vintage gear!" Lol!... Quite obviously two different voices.
