I'm a Pontian lyra player. Which is tuned differently than the Irish Fiddle. After tuning my instrument like your violin, I really enjoyed playing along!

great rendition of this tune. I like playing along, at half speed for the moment... This said, it's perhaps the time to bring your fiddle to a luthier, to give «it» a brand new fingerboard ;) I love your sound. what's the brand of your strings ?

Nice job, Mr. Walsh! Another great rendition of a great old tune! Your lessons help me greatly! I still can't play but they are very enjoyable!

I heard your lesson on Ragtime Annie. That’s one that could include a section with a key change in G. Check out Daniel Carwile’s Atherton session.

You have played a lot of hours on that fiddle, May I ask what pick up you are using. Love your playing

Very nice! I guess you can tell someone who plays there violin a lot when the lacquer is worn completely off the finger board.

Hi Ian, the second section is not a key change. It just stays on the V chord, or A, as you say. No transposition or key change.

Hah...smiley face drawn in rosin.

It DOESN'T change keys from D to A - - - as he says at 0.21 in the video here. To be sure, you're playing the melody which has the A in the second part of the tune- - but it is all played within the confines of the Key of D. Other than that-- a good rendition. :)

dmiller1112 I think the point is that the tonal center shifts to A (mixolydian), which can be a useful was of thinking about it for people

Good Lord. When will you all realize the fact that when playing guitar backup for Fisher's Hornpipe in the "B" part (that you claim to be in the key of "A", WHYYYYY is it a G major chord being used to back up the melody instead of the G# chord that is compatible with the key of A??? G major works with the key of D, but it sure as hell sounds discordant if you try to use it in an "A major" key. You guys are teachers and professionals. You should know that much about chord structure and key change and I'm surprised this one slipped by you.

@@dmiller1112 I'm late to the party, but it's A mixolydian. The tonic is still A, which is useful for melody players that aren't trained in music theory
