Gday Marty, nice to see someone local. I lived at Cleveland point from around 1965 to the late 70's, fished every square inch of it.... Still in the Redlands...Subbed.

That’s epic mate well done. Roughly how far off Cleveland were you? I’ve got a 13ft V-nose punt with a 15 on the back, would love to take the kids there for a session, but always nervous poking out into the bay. Cheers

Not far mate, anywhere between the east beacon and the north beacon is a good place to start. Like anywhere you have to pick your days. Wind of 15km/hr and under is my basic approach. 10km and under if it’s blowing from the north or east and anywhere in between. The Grassys will come right into shallow water as you saw, being in less than 2m of water is often not a deterrent for them especially at sunrise and sunset. Long story short anywhere over the weedy reef between the months of November-May and you’re in with a good shot.

Great work, I need to take on board some of your tips! What was your gear set-up? You said zman paddle tail bloodworm? I've had a grassy off high tide on the land at the lighthouse on a pillie!
@martytuckerfishing
@martytuckerfishing Жыл бұрын
Yeah mate I reckon you’d be able to get a couple landbased any light spin setup. A bream setup would do if your fishing from shore. Jig head between 1/8-1/4oz and a small soft plastic would do the trick.

@@martytuckerfishing I have a jetski and Busta 420 I fish off but don't do anywhere near as well as you, you made that look very easy! I think I'm fishing too big and heavy in them areas.
@martytuckerfishing
@martytuckerfishing Жыл бұрын
@@T4Abyss in the boat I use 15lb braid and 20lb leader just so I can stop the larger ones. But if there’s a lot of smaller ones I’ll down size to bream gear.

Hey mate, I’m one those those guys that only goes out there when then winds forecast to be less then 15km/hr anything more than that it gets uncomfortable and therefore not enjoyable. I have a lower threshold if it’s been blowing from the north for a while because it almost seems like a little swell can get a roll up with the chop as there’s not as much land to obstruct it unlike the other directions. The direction and strength of the current will also make a fair difference to the amount of chop on the surface, current going with the wind will usually calm the chop a little whereas current going against the wind will make the chop worse. Long story short I don’t bother going out in anything uncomfortable far less unsafe and in find it can get uncomfortable in anything over 15km/hr depending on your currents and direction and so on. I also try and make sure if the wind is forecast to come up a little more, I’ll choose where I launch from to have the the wind blowing roughly in that same direction from where I’ll be fishing or whatever (winds forecast to come up from the north launch south of the spot you’ll be fishing) so I can catch it home and not be bashing into it. I hope that helps my boats 4.2 meters but handles chop well for it’s size if your boats smaller I’d a have a lower threshold for the weather.

hey Marty awesom vids man watched them a few times just wanted to have a crack at some grassys but not sure how to find them i dont have side scan just a litte fish finder. Any tips how to find them if cleveland? I know you said 4 mtrs deep but is that low or high tide?
@martytuckerfishing
@martytuckerfishing 6 ай бұрын
Hey mate, can find them basically anywhere around structure. All the reef edges from wello point down to coochie will hold them as well as all the islands like mud, green and peel. Just target the coral edges and weedy reefs with bait or small soft plastics and you’ll definitely get a few eventually. Not having sidescan shouldn’t be that big of a deal although it is handy when it comes to locating and fishing reef edges.

Awesome video mate. Defs should make a video on fish tacos. What size leader were you using?
@martytuckerfishing
@martytuckerfishing Жыл бұрын
It’s definitely on the to do list mate. I’m using 20lb leader and I lock the drag up a bit on Grassys because they love to take you around whatever piece of structure they can find.

Is there any particular part of the tide that you favour more for this style of fishing??
@martytuckerfishing
@martytuckerfishing Жыл бұрын
Not particularly, although I like the top and bottom of the tides most when there’s not quite as much run and water clarity helps around those areas. Often when the waters dirty I’ll find them up in even shallower water but won’t get the same numbers.
