Fishing for Garrick on lures and light tackle! Estuary fishing at its best!

I took my son, Xandré to fish for some Garrick in the nearby estuary! I knew the Garrick were there, but I wasn't expecting them to be this wild! We had an early start to the morning, the day started of a bit on the slow side with the tide being a little bit too high. As the tide dropped the fished moved down the estuary and gave us a really entertaining time! we had lots of fun with the light tackle and smaller lures targeting and catching garrick!

A massive congrats to the young lad. Not only was he blessed with some quality fish, but his ethics and respct for the sport is superb. Anglers in this country should definitely wake up and follow the lead of this young man

Big tailor in clear calm waters. Unheard of here in Australia. We only ever get them on the beach or headlands where it is rough and wavey.

I lost some big garrick in the breede river last week went to witsand for 2 weeks wind was pumping really heavy so no cob and i lost 3 big garrick due to rocks

Great stuff Xander. I would have liked to see those trembles replaced by single hooks....especially when fishing for Garrick. Those things can inflict terrible damage to fish and the "Gentleman of the sea" doesn't deserve that.

Great vid. How often are the Garrick around that estuary. Reason I ask is I live about 250kms from there and would be keen to drive out there for a day. I have never caught a leerie before. It's one I'm also keen to get on fly. Any advice without giving up too many location secrets would be appreciated.

Hi, I have only used the Nasci and not the Miravel, I can only say good things about the Nasci. I can’t comment on the Miravel besides that it looks like a nice little reel.

Is it not bad for the fish to be flopping around on the grass like that meneer? I thought it damages their slime layer and makes them susceptible to infection? Thanks. Great video.

Grass is okay, it doesn’t damage the fish, especially when it is wet grass. Fish regenerate slime all the time

Ek het baie geleer dki. Ek hengel met 8 ft XH Berkley venom cobra spin by Witsand/Breede met live bait vir kabeljou en die stokke werk goed. Kan ek hulle gebruik vir spin vir leervis en elf? Grunter - topwater? Spin meestal van die kant af plugs en shiver stick. Baie dankie!

When retrieving the shiverstick I see you tap it like a topwater walker. Am I correct or is it swimming under the water like a normal shiverstick and you just giving it extra action by twitching like that?

I give it extra action by jerking it. It is designed to flutter/ shiver down as it drops to the bottom when you pause, hence the name shiverstick
