Finally I caught some kob! The weather have been terrible and recently the wind and weather has changed for the better! the South east winds brought some kob to our shores! I took advantage of the good weather to target these fish that is known as Mulloway and Jewfish in Australia. here in South Africa the are known as Kob or Kabeljou! I threw some mullets in the surf with the net and then used the live mullets to target the kob in really shallow and rolling water.

Xander, thanks again for giving simple details about the water, your drag setting, where the fish might be etc etc, as dumb as it might be, the simple details are what beginners like me appreciate..... .... I bet most of your viewers are like me from GP and know NOTHING about saltwater fishing. (Beach fishing I always said was kak because my bait and sinker would wash up next to me, lol...), but listening to you, Duvan, Franna, ASFN, etc etc, I have actually Caught off the beach... AHHAHAHAHHA) your chanel rocks bro...

Can find same type of mullet for bait in orange plankton in northern third of New Zealands surf beachs. Its a top bait for most bigger fish here. Too, often under rated here as bait! Have no Kob/Mulloway here. Target "kingfish" a similar type fish to yours in size & shape. Surf gear & Tec bit different here, much bigger surf so much longer casts with heavier sinkers & rods on the west coast of NZ. On east coast NZ surf is smaller so often switch the Fixed spool reel for an Aussie Alvey reel & just cast a whole mullet (we call these fish grey mullet, have several types not all types make good bait!) with no sinker as bigger spool allows you to cast a small mullet (same size as yours) a long way with a stiff heavy rod. Diff places different strokes, you have reminded me I should be using more grey mullet bait!

Hi guys! Keep the epic surf fishing videos coming. Have you done a video on catching mullet? How to throw the net? I would be interested in that as I have a 10ft net but can’t get the distance you guys throw it. Cheers mate!
@zoolookfishing
@zoolookfishing 2 жыл бұрын
Sorry bru! Only checked your message now! A 10ft is a bit big to throw in the surf in perfect conditions yeah it would work great but for a wade and a quick reaction throw a 6 or 7ft is optimal, in this vid I used a 7ft. You get way more distance with the 6 or 7ft hence why I use it in the surf.

@redtobertshateshandles
@redtobertshateshandles Жыл бұрын
The rule is 1/3 of the line breaking strain. This is for a hard mouthed fish. He set his drag lighter than this, it was in the holder, and Kob have a soft mouth. Experience with fishing is ultimately how you know. Sometimes you might need to have a tighter setting.

@@91G_ on a beach there's probably very few rocks around so you can lighten your drag safely. Around rocks or a bridge you probably tighten up a bit. He shows pulling the line off with his hand and adjusting the drag nob. I learned where that 1/3 setting was and didn't exceed it. I lost many more fish having too tight drag settings than too loose. There's no hurry on the beach, be smooth and gentle, even big fish will get tired quickly. They don't go to the gym and practice fighting anglers. After one long run they will usually be tired out. They are floating and can be pulled in fairly easily. Try it in a pool. You can move yourself with a piece of 6lb line.
