Watch the final episode of "TRCP's Native Trout Adventures" as we accompany our sportsmen partners on the Bruneau River in northern Nevada in search of native redband trout. Join in our quest for feisty fish in one of the wildest, least-populated locations in the lower 48 and learn about the importance of publicly accessible waters fed by public lands backcountry.

Before the dams came into existence. That river used to have chinook salmon and Steelhead that would go all the way to nevada and most would go into the jarbridge river.

Great video. Thanks for sharing. Can you fish Bruneau, the East Owyhee and the Jarbidge on a three day (four night) trip? Or is that too much driving away from a gas station? Blessings, Gary R, USAF-Retired

Redband trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss gairdneri) are a broad range of genetic populations that exist east of the Cascades and in the upper Sacramento and Kern River drainage in California. The anadromous form are summer run steelhead. Coastal rainbow trout (O.m. irideus) are native to the coastal streams west of the cascades. Their anadromous form are the winter steelhead. ( Yes there are summer steelhead west of the cascades, but I am generalizing). The redbands are very diverse ranging from the loosely and casually named "Kamloops trout" of large glaciated inland British Columbia lakes and the Columbia Basin redbands, to isolated basin and range redband populations locked in to small streams in eastern Oregon, to the genetic soup of the Klamath Basin redbands that are their own unique blend of trout. Personally I would not mix the terms redsides and redbands together. Redsides are much more of a locally used name that isn't entirely linked to redbands. ( Ask a McKenzie River Oregon fisherman about redsides. Theirs are O.m. irideus) Cattle grazing done wrong is very harmful. Proper grazing management can actually be good for stream channels via riparian vegetation management. Our interest is in creating wild trout refuges on private ground similar to the private pond that saved the Lahontan cutthroat trout of Pyramid lake. You can read more about that incredible story here: www.aquahabitat.com/wildlife.refuge.trout.conservation.html Building private water refuges throughout the west can be a source of pure strain trout if tragedy strikes on any of these small isolated populations such as Silver Creek in Oregon where we have seen redbands comfortably feeding in water temperatures into the mid 80s F. *Non profit organizations are not the only ones who want to save our wild trout!*

Good video, thanks for sharing. As far as the cattle go, they compact the bank due to their weight and stationary tendencies causing more damage than good. The difference between redbands and rainbows, if I remember correctly is simply natural selection. They come from high desert streams in eastern Oregon, causing them to be subjected to extreme weather conditions year round. This has, over millennia allowed the hearty and stubborn redband to become very "smart", and ferocious eaters making them one of the most desirable rainbow sub-species to fish for.

Plenty of cattle walking the banks of rivers and creeks in Utah, and their fish are much bigger than the dinks y'all caught in this video.

I'm no biologist but those look like just normal rainbows to me. The fish I always considered desert redbands are a lot more colorful which I often catch in the Owyhees and Eastern Oregon.

They might be fishing on private land for stocked trout.

looks like they need to let some cattle eat down that tall grass so as not to cause a burn later in the season. Burns cause complete loss of vegetation and then the run off sullies the stream and kill oxygen.
