Actually where y'all were fishing gets anywhere from 20 to 40 feet deep. The deepest I've gotten in that channel was around 41 feet a little farther down towards the bridge, by far the deepest and one of the fastest moving parts of the bay.

Let me tell you , that " dinky " Zebco rod is not bad . I have 2 of those Slingshot rods and all you do is put some 10lb Spider Wire on them and they are a blast to fish with ! My wife caught a 28in rockfish with it and I cant tell you how many other hundreds of fish we caught with them. The crazy thing is that they are $ 9 at Walmart ! For that price , what do you expect ? I think the biggest fish I landed with it was a 15lb blue catfish . You HAVE to use the drag or you will either strip the gears and or bend the handle on the reel. Done that already. Anyway , these " throw away " rods are a lot of fun. You can beat the shit out of them and you are only out a few dollars when they crap out . I wont treat my good gear that way !

Cringe at 1:34..... I know why they call them gotcha plugs! Took 1 in the thumb while fishing at the inlet. Caught a shade and when trying to take hook out he decided to go into a shaking frenzy which put the other treble hook into my thumb, first night there... I am very careful which them now! lol good lures
