Bed fishing is such a double edge sword. It’s such a thrill to see them and watch them eat. It’s almost too easy sometimes. You’re not really learning anything as an angler, but you’re having a blast while some say it ruins the fishery.

Great video Chris, those smallmouth are a sight to see. I can't believe they suspend all summer, that's nuts. We have deep (150-200') deep lakes here in NH but I think you can catch them during the summer at 20-45' depths on rock piles and humps. Don't have a bass boat so don't know for sure :)

All fish that are caught for eating must be handled carefully to reduce stress and humanely killed as soon as possible after capture. Humane killing requires that the fish is stunned (rendered instantaneously insensible) before being bled out. Percussive stunning involves a forceful and accurate blow to the head with a blunt instrument. The force required will depend on the size of the fish. The blow should be aimed just above the eyes to impact on the brain. The effectiveness of the stun should be checked and another blow applied if the fish is not unconscious. After stunning the fish should be bled out by cutting the gill rakers or, with larger fish, a main artery. With the very small fish breaking the neck is good way to kill. Just put your thumb or other finger to the mouth of the fish and quickly make a move upwards. All this is important because fish also feel pain and suffer. When the fish is in pain and suffering, the fish also produce stress hormone. Stress hormone makes the meat of the fish taste worst and stress hormone also reduce keeping quality.

Jamie Krueger I guess the Michigan DNR is wrong too, eh? They changed the law to allow catch and release for bass a few years ago. I'm pretty sure the DNR employs fisheries biologists who know all about this sort of thing. I'll take their word for it. The bass population in Michigan is flourishing.

There's a lake like this in the SW burbs of Chicago but it only holds bass and gills. So clear it looks like a meltwater lake... 20-30ft of visibility... it's insane... Tough to fish because of the visibility, but more so because of a lack of fishing access. MONSTER bass in there though.
