Those are some really great ideas. I like to watch your vids because you come up with nice hacks that I hadn’t even thought about. What I use whenever I’m in water too shallow to use an anchor but don’t want to float away from my spot, I stick my mud stick through a pvc pipe that has larger coupler glued to it so as to not fry my scupper hole. So that way the current and/or wind pushes the stick onto the pipe not the scupper wall itself. I make it to where it just barely sticks out the bottom so it clears the whole scupper area. Works like a charm and no issues to report to date.

30 Brilliant ideas. Some of them simply amazing!! Like 28/29 an 30!!!! "The stirrup"..(Clapping hands) Mi only suggestion/recommendation is a technical one: Before (try not to be after, but do it if you never did ) you use your kayak first time anywhere , make a "home hydraulic test" simply pour strong water with a hose or a 5 gallon bucket over every hatch , screw or plug. Check inside to find any filtration. You may get badly surprised if you discover your yak is suddenly sinking....and replacing gaskets or a little silicon touch over a screw is not a difficult task at home. And even no having any filtration invest in a 15 Dollar manual bilge pump and store inside the hull with a Velcro patch. *That will save you or someone around you in a very possible critical situation* Great ideas Steve (Willing to see some more!!!) Regards. Fred.

I recently got my Versa-Brella and painted it to "match" the kayak, all mounted (dissembled for now) and ready. Dying to try it out this coming new year! (Nothing worse than trying to fight a fish with the hot sun beating down on my neck!) I also carried a length of poly rope with a length of PVC on it with me for flipping purposes, much the same as you mentioned, I just never realized it could serve so many purposes. I must upgrade the carabiner immediately! I haven't had to use it yet, but as they say its not "if" its "when!"

I understand! My old Pescador Angler 12 was for sitting only! People have claimed on KZfaq that they can stand in it, but they must have studied ballet or something! Because there was no way a grown man can stand in that thing! My SP13 is better, but not as stable as some claim. I think its because I'm tall, at 6'2" my center of gravity is different than most, and I think that's probably got a lot to do with it. I've been trying to test this theory, but no one will let me borrow their kayak's to purposely experiment with them! The last one I asked I got "are you out of your mind?! Do you know what that thing costs?!" I guess we'll never know!

You can also use a small strip of fabric or a piece of Paracord, tied at the base of the blade on the shaft. The more water absorbant/wicking the better.....but also the more you will have to change it as it'll get gross. Works like a charm.

I just installed a bow spritz on my kayak. The idea is to have choppy waves push the nose of the kayak up. On heavy seas or surf zone the idea is have the nose bury into the wave thus increasing buoyancy as the wave progresses over the kayak. If; I’m headed into the waves as I should be the nose will pop up every time. Second addition is to use dollar tree laundry bags filled with zip lock freezer bags. These are independent little air compartments the laundry bags are keep them contained.

Kayak Hacks Fishing I have to find someone with a big boat that makes a huge wake. I’m experimenting with different buoyancy designs other than a flimsy sure to fail outrigger. I’ve spent a lifetime at sea and know the forces of the water and the destructive forces is not just a one time deal or from just one direction. I’m thinking of the different designs used across the board from Norsemen to modern submersibles, submarines and any other water craft. I’m focusing on retarding rollover and increasing buoyancy when it’s most needed. It’s not about staying dry because this is a wet sport or should be considered as a wet sport. I don’t see too many beach goers in the winter but I see all kinds of people in kayaks; bundled up floating the river. When they end up in the river I don’t think most people believe they would ever end up; in the river with an upside down kayak or... they have pushed the kayak 40’ away because the did that last second thing and tried to jump in instead of rolling the kayak to save gear. In the mean time they have propelled the kayak perhaps further down stream which they will never catch up to. If the water is nearing ice conditions; they have seconds to conserve heat and energy and swimming isn’t the answer except for short distances. So; I’m working on an oversized rain suit securely mounted on the back of my PFD. I will use Velcro at the ankles and cuffs. I have to design a neck damn an a way to partially inflate the suit to minimize water circulation and heat loss due to conductivity of the water. So; if this sounds interesting I’ll keep you posted on the progress. I’m not into posting yet another video on kayaks. I do have a few videos regarding an underwater torch I designed, built and use.

@@KayakhacksFishing: Yep, nice warm military gear. I used to have a Navy Foul Weather jacket, but don't know what happened to it. Would be perfect these days for outdoor chores in cold weather.

I have had to jealously defend this old jacket from my wife who is very organized (would have been a great 1st Sergeant) and doesn't understand the sentimental attraction for it.

I enjoy all of your videos but now I need some advice. My spinning reel just died and I need a recommendation for a a good replacement. I fish for multiple species from catfish to redfish. What would be a good reliable, inexpensive reel to purchase.

I like the Cadence Fishing reels. They are a great value since there is no middleman. The reels are on sale now with the cyber week. You can get an additional 10% off with my discount code that also donates the affiliate commission to kids fishing charity. The code is kayakhacks-10off and I think it will even be ok to use on sale items. I use the 2000 and 3000 series. I put the 2000 on medium and medium light rods and the 3000 on medium heavy.

Wow; AIR BORNE and; What unit is that shoulder patch? I was in 1st, INF. DIV. 70 76. Oh yeah, I use silicone grease to keep water out of any and every penetration water might track down or wick through. We use silicon grease on our chamber hatch locks, diving bell locks and dry suit zippers. I use bicycle inner tubes for gasket material where rod holders or any nutted bolt fastener is used in addition to the silicon grease I get my grease from a commercial supplier but it’s probably sold at scuba shops as well.

Kayak Hacks Fishing cool were you in Germany in 75? My fun job was with a 155mm SP Artillery unit in. Augsburg then Neu Ulm Germany. You must have been involved in the first encounter with Iraq and Kuwait. You are like me; There are thousands of uses for DOLLAR TREE items. I’m using their net laundry bags to contain about 200 zip lock bags instead of a noodle. Each individual bag is a separate air chamber. Actually I make two air bladders from one laundry bag by sewing two stitches down the center length ways then cut between the stitches. (Two bags).

I was in the FA as well! I was in Germany from 80-82 in a 155 SP unit. My unit did not deploy to the Gulf as it was a very short conflict. My father and younger brother were both Infantry and they saw plenty of combat. Great idea to put the zip locks in a laundry bag!

Kayak Hacks Fishing it’s kind of disheartening to see all the posts and kasserns that are now closed down. In 71 to 73 the economy was great and the dollar was 4 marks to the dollar. I made very good use of my time there by getting an international drivers license and buying a 68 VW bug. I toured quite a bit but that was also expensive. Being in an artillery unit afforded me a lot of time to go to school under Macknimara’s education program. The Army set up prestigious university satellite schools so; I was getting my college credits from the university of Maryland. That opened doors to other schools when I returned home. The GI BILL was still strong so the whole experience was a total benefit for me. When people say; “thank you for your service.” My reply is; “ I thank the American tax payers for my food, bunk, schooling, medical needs, clothes for three years active service. So; don’t thank me; thank yourself.” Another hack you or your viewers might find beneficial is buying a cheap but good bicycle light with a strobe effect and putting the lens into a dollar tree salt shaker. The patterns will magnify the intensity of the light and diffuse it 360deg.

HACK for you....... Rig Anchor: Take a spent Gatorade container or a bit larger container, purchase 50' of cheap clothes line cord, place a tight double knot on very end, stuff cord in container, insert other end through hole in lid and tie loop on cord. screw cap back on container for storage, When you get to rig, pull out cord through hole until knot seats, screw off lid, fill with salt water, replace lid and then toss over horizontal pipes. It has great holding power. And now since you didnt throw a heavy weight over the pipe, it does not pull you in to the rig as the bottles just floats on the surface. $3.
