To kick off the New Year here’s one to sort out the garage and take care of your fishing gear at the same time. It’s a Fishing Rod Rack, A 2 part program with the 2nd part being uploaded next Friday 9th Jan 2015. Skill level is easy, minimum tools required and as you’ll find out, 6 pieces of timber, a few screws and a couple of hours. Hope you enjoy the first of the DIY projects, look forward to your feedback.

Just spent the whole day making this. If I had a work shop I could have shaved off a few hours but it's worth it! It's a great rack. I added a support to the back and a strap to the front. Thank you for your clear instructions. I've been meaning to do this for a long time.

Just what I needed, thanks. Yes, it does need a lot of work to be a complete “Woodworking Bible”, but Hyezmar’s book is still in draft status and available for all to download.

Hijacking my husband's account to leave this comment. Really enjoy your videos. Just taking up woodworking as a hobby, I'm a complete beginner. Watching how a project can shape up with little fuss is very encouraging. I was getting a little overwhelmed with all the reading up I was doing. Thanks and look forward to more :)

Thanks pleased you are enjoying the videos. As the Nike ad said. "Just DO IT" I have read heaps and continue to do so but find the real benefit comes from doing. As most thing make complete sense in my head it's not until I get to the bench I realise whats what. Hope you continue to enjoy the journey. More woodworking videos here kzfaq.info Cheers Steve

in your experience does wiping the glue with water as opposed to letting it get tacky and remove with a scraper effect you ability to apply stain later, assuming that you are going to use some type of finish.
@Woodworkingmasterclass
@Woodworkingmasterclass 8 жыл бұрын
+johncbrownmd hI Thanks for the question, No, in my experience washing as opposed to wiping the glue off wipe a rag or scraper has a much better result when staining because you are removing all the glue and not allowing any of it to soak into the grain which would have a blocking effect on the stain or finish you apply later. My number on tip is remember to wash off the residue with clean water so there is no glue slurry left and wipe it down afterwards with a clean dry cloth. Cheers Steve.

If you do not have a drill or jig saw you can use a coping saw to cut that little curved hole out.
@Woodworkingmasterclass
@Woodworkingmasterclass 5 жыл бұрын
You could also just cut sloping straight edges that would do the job just as well. Thanks for the tip. Cheers Steve

Steve, Whenever you spread the glue with your fingers, I have to think about the warnings of my teacher to not do that because we have a glue container with a brush (I think it is called T S Boy over here). And my teacher is *very* insistent about this. :D For small surfaces I still use my fingers if he isnt looking. lol I usually dislike to work with pine because it isnt very forgiving when you make mistakes. Speaking of pine, which furniture could you make out of pine - or rather, would there be some pieces of furniture which pine isn't suited for very much? Cheers!

Big difference between school shop and your own workshop. I can see the reasoning for it at school because the possibility of getting glue everywhere and on everything is quite high. Then you have to go to other classes as well. Not a good thing to have glue on you fingers in that situation. However, working for yourself it's easy enough to have a bucket of water under the bench to clean your hands. When you're are fulltime woodworker you have enough respect for your work to always keep the area clean, if not tidy. As the saying goes "When in Rome..." So When at School do as they say, when at home do as you will. Hope that helps. Cheers Steve

Could you provide the measurements in standard? I'm not that great at converting metric to standard 🤓
@Woodworkingmasterclass
@Woodworkingmasterclass 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Carnufias, Sorry that was a long time ago and I no longer have it but I think it was 36"high by 24" long and the drill I uses was 3/4". Easy way to convert is divide the millimeters by 25 that will give you inches. Cheers Steve

May I ask what are the size of the boards using inches instead of mm?
@Woodworkingmasterclass
@Woodworkingmasterclass 7 ай бұрын
Hi David, It was a long time ago, so can't remember but depending on your rod size I would say around 3" or 75mm between centers would be more than enough room. Cheers Steve

do you have a cut list of the timber you used, im thinking of making one of these in wood work at school and it would be really helpful!

I'm fairly sure I mention all the cutting list in the video. As I don't have the stand any more I don't know exactly what it was. But if you follow the process I'm sure you will figure it out. And make it to suit your specific Rods. If you get stuff drop me a message and I'll do my best to help. Cheers Steve

how big of screws did you use?

Brandon Elsbury Fairly sure they were 8 x 32mm, although providing the have more than a 10mm or 3/8" bite into the joining timber any size would be fine. Like to see a pic of the finished item. Cheers Steve
