Seabass, flounder, pigfish and a HUGE spider crab! It was a relaxing fishing day because kayaking didn't pan out. The weather forecast was calling for 11mph winds, but it was definitely between 15 and 20mph. After I called it quits kayaking, I regrouped and headed down to the 9th St. pier for some fishing to see what was still biting.
All bait was squid cut into pieces
Rigs were high/low with a 4oz pyramid sinker with 30lb leader
**This is not a free fishing zone, so if you decide to fish it, a fishing license is required.
Thanks as always for watching.

Looks like a beautiful day to fish!! I remember my dad and I in the 80’s used to use a fresh water stream trout setup and catch spot right at the first part of the dock at 9th. We would then keep them alive and use them for bait with squid and night fish off of the Rt. 50 bridge. We caught nice flounder and sea trout back then off of the bridge night fishing. During the day we would drift cast the thorofare.

Hey Jay, just commenting on this video because you don’t have a comment section on your H2Oi video (which I think was a good idea). Anyhow, I just wanted to let you know how much I enjoy your videos. I visit OC and the surrounding area several times a year. I get good info on OC all year long, but you’re “man on the street” approach is unique and super informative. There isn’t another broadcast I’ve seen that are similar to yours. I LOVE THE “TOURS”.

Thanks man, I really appreciate it! I knew the h2oi video could ruffle some feathers! Thanks a ton for watching and giving me feedback! Hopefully you'll get to come down again before the year is over.

If you cast over by the boats to the left of you there are surprisingly less snags than out in front. I fished there a few times last year, and caught more than a few croaker.

Thanks for the tip! I usually try to cast out far because of the deeper water.

Ugh. Honestly, no where 🤣 that NE wind really screwed up a lot. I went out 4 hours yesterday on my kayak, didn't have a good mark on my fish finder. Maybe 9th street during the outgoing tide. 50 bridge during the outgoing tide too if you want to brave fishing the bridge. Good luck!

Awesome i will be there on the 8th what species do you think will be there this time of year? Planning on fishing the same spot as in this vid, unless you have a better recommendation for this time of year?

9th st is always my "if I want to catch 'something' spot". Just cast out and see what you get. If your targeting certain species, there are other spots around, like the inlet, 50 bridge, etc. But 9th st is a fun spot to fish.

@@ReelJayB awesome I was really hoping for my best chances at anything that will bite that we can keep for the family to eat during our stay, I imagine spot and croaker are pretty easy? Unless it's too early for them?

@@DOUBLEO_ObsessionOutdoors there may be some around. Try going for some kingfish off the beach, people have been catching those. They taste great. Or try a deadly tackle flounder rig and cast off the 9th st pier. You may get a flounder there.

Hey jay, what do you think the best bait to use right now is to catch anything at the inlet, I was thinking about using squid this weekend?
@ReelJayB
@ReelJayB Жыл бұрын
Squid works fine, also any type of gotcha plugs or "action" lures for blues or stripers. Frozen shrimp will work great too with small hooks.

So how far is the parking area from the 9th street pier
@ReelJayB
@ReelJayB Жыл бұрын
It's right next to the pier. You can park anywhere on the side streets.

Do you experience the same number of snags as you do by 4th Street?
@ReelJayB
@ReelJayB 2 жыл бұрын
Not on 9th street. I would say the place I snag the most is the inlet. 4th St I either drop right next to the bulkhead or use a mid column bait. Those 2 methods and I won't snag there.
