Fishing the Transkei: Your Wildest Breams - You won't believe how old these fish are!

In this episode we take a trip to the Jurassic Park of the Eastern Cape, Transkei. Conditions tested our gees but we managed a few goodies here and there. I also include a run through of my favourite scratching trace and we talk about the impressively long lives of one of my favourite fish, the Bronze Bream.

Awesome Vivienne, must say in the beginning when i saw all you fish photos i though, welldone to your guide, referring to your brother and Franna.. But the way you explain fishing grounds and your trace i can see you know what you are doing and have your own way of doing it! Girls who fish ROCK!

I'm sure a lot of people think or have thought that, but a part of the KZfaq channel is to prove that as a female angler I am perfectly capable and I actually put in a lot of effort. Hopefully it encourages more women to try fishing and become independent anglers 😁🤞

Hi Viv, awesome video! I would like to ask if you would consider doing a dedicated series on all the MPA's in South Africa and maby our most pressured species (like you did for the Cob). I gather that you have extensive knowledge in this field and of the areas, being an aquatic scientist myself I encourage any type of information concerning our natural recourses and protected areas. Since people in nowadays tend to watch videos rather than to search for reading material. Kind regards

This is the 2nd video of yours that I have watched - again not your regular "off the mill" type of video - the content is VERY educational and it appears the content is provided by an academic?

Thanks for your encouragement! 🙌🏼 Definitely trying to make it educational. I am currently a PhD student studying Ichthyology (Fish) at Rhodes University and I believe it's very important to get scientific knowledge into a friendly version for the public.

I use alcohol swabs to keep my tag applicator sterile. I have seen a tagger on KZfaq use an ointment on tagged fish to prevent infection. Do you know what this ointment is and where I can source same.

For South Africa the dart tags fall under a citizen science project run by the Ocean Research Institute (ORI) to become a member you can visit www.oritag.org.za and go to the "Become a Member" section 😁
