Knot moistening and checking hook sharpness, errors so many do, even the experienced if they are lazy. Great tips, especially about the ultra sharp hooks. The point gets turned over so easily if it touches gravel, a twig, anything. The only thing I would add about sharpening hooks, it takes away surface protection away and they can rust to the point of bluntness overnight depending on the water BUT using a special pen you can apply protective quick drying rubbery solution to a resharpened tip to keep it sharper for longer, or if not but of vaseline helps....great for keeping floater line up too!! 😊

Excellent Carl, great for beginners and the filming was great. I've used those super sharp hooks and you're right the point is easily damaged. if you're fishing a rock/gravel bottomed pond where the carp have developed really hard lips, they may be just the thing.

There's lots of little things that make a big difference, and that's something a lot of magazines and youtube channels fail to communicate well. Advertising the latest liquid, wonder bait, or super rig needing multiple components makes money but can do the customer a disservice in the end when they copy the magazine's article approach without having the knowledge to know when to apply that approach. I've made that mistake before, and probably will again. Alex and yourself, along with the other people you've brought with you on the journey, have created a fantastic resource in both knowledge and inspiration. A friend is taking me pike fishing tomorrow, fingers crossed I'll have something interesting to share.

It really needs to be stated that sharpening a hook to where its flat and pointed only acts a double sided knife and once a fish is hooked the side to side movement is absolutely slicing and causing so much damage to the fishes' mouth.

It amazes me how today people can see one video online, and have knowledge older generations took years to figure out. Basics are important part you dont skip! I would add just prebaiting. Seen lots of young anglers go fishing with only 1 kg groundbait and 1kg of particles on a natural venues! They dont have 1 bite. Fish are like pigs, you need to feed them regulary.

Kamakura are great hooks but I dread reeling them in as I can almost guarantee the point will get bent. So I agree 100% if you are constantly casting in and out bagging up they really aren’t good for that purpose.

Kamakura are great hooks for people that are actually doing REAL fishing, not this "let's go to a pond that is STOCKED with fish and pretend that we are fisherman" crap. Fishing is about reading the water, finding the fish, and then trying to outsmart it. Nothing personal here but those tiny lakes with STOCKED fish is not proper fishing. It's a great place to take your kids to and nothing more.
