I remember being in 5th grade when this came out on HBO. Seeing it all these years really makes you appreciate how well written, the performances of the actors in this film and some amazing character development. My favorite was Alice, the sunflower of the family. Her soul was pure, strong and beautiful.

Watching this 24 years later brings back so many memories. Especially being able to relate to a movie WITH Natives in it and real native problems. My mother was a single mother too. She never drank but always took care of me and my 3 older siblings. God Bless all single mothers especially the native women.

Man I was about 8 yrs old when they filmed this movie near my cousins house on Hewitt St. in my home of Santa Rosa, Ca. The whole street was blocked off because they were filming this movie. I remember the corner store down the street next too the bakery which is all still there that my Uncle always made us go pick up bread from. I remember the old chubby lady at the meeting with the curlers in her hair, that’s Rita my old next door neighbor.

Vonna Universe I’m having a hard time finding the actual address to the house where it was filmed. But it was filmed in Santa Rosa ca, when I did see the house from google maps the area did change a lot for the better, but yet there is some familiarity left.
@Devilhedd6322 жыл бұрын
@@UgherzCookies The store has had many owners through out the years, went from White to Mexican to Indian. Franco’s American bread is still there, there has never been any real gang activity like in the movie, the houses of course have been painted many times to keep it looking clean. The park which is called Howarth Park not South Park in which we do have a South Park which is a neighborhood where there was a lot of gang activity in the past. I’m actually standing in the neighborhood right now where they filmed.

One of the great things about this series is that it was filmed in Santa Rosa, California! Kudos to Greg Sarris who wrote the book Grand Avenue and brought his vison to life via this series.
@earnestpigg5 жыл бұрын
I actually lived in this neighborhood during this time , & know all the real people depicted in the film . The writer was someone who came into our neighborhood from one of the upscale neighborhoods, & upon discovering our neighborhood through a mutual friend, was intrigued by what he didn't know existed in our city, one of the most diverse areas consisting mostly of black families with a mixture of whites, mexican , american indian & other races. What was written was his experience with an indian family that were close friends of mine , & what he witnessed going on at that time between the family of two cousins, some fictional but some factual. Those who lived here loved the movie though it showed only the indian side of what was everyday life in what was really a very close knit community, Love always to South Park!

Still watching better than the newer movies-plus Native American Indian movies are great and apparently highly under rated. Try some, they are very interesting and more realistic than what we are being dolled out today. This was the 2nd half of the movie, excellent movie. Of course the first was called Grand Ave and then it leads you to the rest which they call part 2. Very much appreciate the share! Loved this movie as well as the others that watched with me. We all gave it high ratings. Ty again! Enjoy!
