I love how Matt never tries to force his opinions upon us ... Some KZfaqrs even Title their videos things like ' What to do, and not to do ' or ' The right way to do ... ' or even things like ' If you do this you are WRONG. ' ... Matt just says ' This is what I do, but you do you ...' And I love it

I use a bucket in my sink to mix the water to the correct temperature and add the conditioner. I'm not strong enough to lift it, so I use a small pond pump and a hose to get the water from the bucket into my tanks. A bit cumbersome, but it gets the job done.

Here’s a little tip that I do to help my old brain - I have 3 tanks, and could never remember measurements of de-chlorination and fertilizer etc. when I first get a new bottle I work out the dosage and write them down on a small piece of paper for each tank and tape it to the side of the bottle. That way it’s a quick and safe way to dose the individual tanks 🇦🇺❤️

My fish room is on the north side of the house, and I keep the screen closed, so there is virtually no daylight hitting any front aquarium glass. Any algae is down to aquarium lights and whatever is in the water. I also use a bucket for taking the water out. Ideally, I would like a separate bucket, hose and sponge for every aquarium to avoid transferring "stuff" from one aquarium to another. However, I do have a 100 litre barrel to "prepare" water before it goes in the aquariums (aerate it, add Seachem Prime and bring it up to temperature). A small pump and a long enough hose take care of transporting the water to any aquarium in the room. I am still developing a routine to do at least some maintenance on a weekly basis, just not all the tanks in just one day. Great video once again. And you are right, there is no one "right" way to go about things. Got to figure out what works best for you and your aquariums. 👍

Matt, I use buckets for my weekly 10% water change on my Juwel Rio 240. And a plastic jug too! My shower room is close and I get the water from the tap I need. i myself also water change with buckets, its just easier to maintain temperatures for me. only thing i can pick on is i like to put my bacteria straight into the tank rather than the bucket to prevent losing any of it as they stick to the bucket sides, but i fill from the bucket using a jug as im disabled so i fill slower than others. i do add the water conditioner to the bucket and then take a jug full of water and pour it back into the bucket to fully mix it up

This was a fantastic video! When I set up my first planted tank we ended up with a massive hair algea bloom while we went on vacation. After 10 days it took up the majority of the tank 😮 I had four mollies in a ten gallon temporarily (just waiting for the planted tank to be ready, mollies were only and inch long at the time) and we transfered them over to the 29 gallon with the hair algea and within two days the hair algea was gone. We only took out one large handful just to give the mollies a headstart, but there was loads of it in there. Mollies= natural hair algea removal! I should add that my tanks get loads of natural sunlight and I refuse to put curtains up. I love how the tanks look when the morning light comes in.

Hey Matt! Ive always used old tank water as well but because I feel I'm flushing all the beneficial bacteria down the drain with tap water. I know I'm still probably loosing some with the ol' bucket clean, but at least its aged water. It'll still have all the good things in it that has been building up and will come out with some of that to get the tank off in the right foot again.

I live in a single story tiles on a concrete slab house. To do water changes on my 12 tanks, I use a 100 litre wheelie bin with conditioned water, wheel from tap to tanks, and a 2 litre jug to fill after draining old water out. For that, I attached an old intake plastic pipe to the blue squeezy siphon tube you used, which takes all my takes down by about 30%. Loving your channel. 🖤🇦🇺

Great video Matt! And as others have said, it’s honest and down to earth advice; no pushy “you must do xyz” which is great I was going to get rid of some algae in my tank this week, but just remembered I’m away for 10 days in about 2 weeks time…. And it’s a shrimp tank, so it’ll just be extra food for them while I’m away. Got one of those “weekend feed blocks” for them too, hopefully it’ll be enough 🤞

Hi Matt, I always enjoy watching your videos, gets my motivation up for cleaning my own tanks! I only have 2 40 gallon tanks but I'm struggling with beard algae in one and black algae in another. My plants always look so dirty and full of algae its very frustrating. I have tried dimming the lights, and shortening the time I have lights on. Also tried Seachem Excel and Flourish thinking this will help but it ended up making my fish sick, even though I was extremely careful with the dosing amounts. I'm using root tabs now for the stems but am still fighting algae 🙄🙄 The black algae is the worst, it completely covers everything in the tank, I'm beginning to think I need to start over with this one. Anyway I still haven't given up yet 😁🐠
@FishShopMatt
@FishShopMatt 2 ай бұрын
Definitely don't give up. If nothing has changed the algae situation that you've tried so far. It may be worth looking at what's in the water you're using in your tank as sometimes tap water can bring in excess nutrients that cause algae. The other thing would be food, so how much and what quality, as poor quality food sometimes can't be digested by fish so they just end up fouling the water.

Great to see the similarities and differences in tank maintenance-more similar than different which stands to reason since I’ve learned a good amount of my fish keeping from your videos! I always use buckets for my water changes and didn’t know that was considered odd or archaic by some--not that I would have cared 😂. I pour the water through a colander to disperse the flow since I need both hands to lift the bucket. Thanks for consistently great content and enjoyment!

I use a bucket too! Easy to see what you take out and makes it easy to fill back the right amount of water too. I use 8mm lexan lids on my nano tanks, those allow me to put the bucket on top and siphon back the water in with a 8mm hose. I try to match the temperature by feel, but its always a bit off. Because it fills up slowly the heater picks the temperature difference. It also tends to disturb the aquarium less than dumping in the bucket of water😊
