Hi everyone. Today we are looking at another tool from Fiskars. This time its a knife and axe sharpener called the Xsharp. This promises to quickly sharpen your axe/knife/tool. Simple and portable, is this going to be a handy gadget when going into the outdoors or is it an expensive gimmick? Find out in todays short video.

I have the fiskars sharpener. Have used it a few times. I wasnt too impressed with results. Had it with me during a bushcraft workshop (full week). There we learned to sharpen knife and axes with the small Fallkniven DC4 wetstone. Takes much less space and gives you way better sharpening results. Our instructor warned me that pull through sharpeners, like the fiskars, take away much material from your knive and axe. At home I use water stones for the sharpening. And finish off with stropping on a leather belt. Just my 2 cents. Maybe when you use the Fiskars very carefully, that it can be helpful, especially when your not yet used to sharpening with stones.

Thanks for your comment. Overall, I agree with you. This won’t replace my hockey puck or wet stones, as they perform much better. However, this can bring up the edge of a knife blade (as long as it’s not too dull), for like you say, someone who’s not comfortable with sharpening stones. Yes, maybe that’s who it’s aimed at 🤷🏻‍♂️ But like you, I’ll be sticking to the stones. Have a great weekend and all the best 😊👍🏼

Please tell me. At what angle should I sharpen knives that will be sharpened on this sharpener in the future? 15, 18, 20 degrees on one side? Thank you.

Hello. Your knife should be straight when using this sharpener (the blade pointing directly down, not at an angle). The ceramic blades in the Xsharp are designed for this. I hope that helps👍🏼😊

I’d stick with the puck myself gimmicky things have there use’s but tend to let you down right when you need them most ok for at home in garden shed, just my thoughts 👍 ATB Trev

Yes I’ll always have the puck. This isn’t for every situation. Only for putting a fine edge on a knife. It’s not suitable for dull blades. All the best Trev 😊👍🏼
