I recently acquired a Fender Pro 2 Strat from a friend who bought it new but never played it. So from the factory it had the worst setup I've ever seen with the saddles bottomed out and the screws sticking far above the saddles so I knew right away the neck angle was way off but it has the micro tilt thank goodness. With a few adjustments I was able to get the correct neck angle and what a difference it made in setting up the guitar exactly like I wanted so I am now a huge fan of these micro tilts and not having to shim. Great video bud I never even considered doing this as an upgrade on my other necks but I may have to now.

Excellent video. I'm surprised this is the only video I could find on this subject, I guess it goes to show how little Fender cares about their 70s creations. It's a shame as it's my favorite era for their instruments.

Nice, clear instructions and demo. Looks easy enough. Have you noticed any difference in the tone or sustain when using the Micro Tilt? Thanks

Hi. Thanks for your comments. Personally I think people put far too much emphasis on what I consider minor factors. The big tone factors are wood, body design, pickups, amps, effects, strings and to a lesser degree the nut. That accounts for 99.9% . So no real tone or sustain issues noticeable to me. Although I'm sure others will disagree. That's guitars for you.

HI Daniel for the neck disc and the flat surface of the t-nut in the body use a 19mm forstner bit for the threaded part of the t-nut use an 8mm bit (or 9mm would be ok) for the neck plate and through the guitar body to accept the allen key use either 4,5 or 6mm drill bit (video says 4mm but you can go higher and probably better you do - it is a bit more forgiving if you are not drilling truly vertical)

On my micro-tilt guitars (I have a '78 and an '08) I bypass it and use the full-pocket wooden tapered neck shims from Stew-Mac... eliminates dead spots. Buy the full assortment so you can fine-tune it. Do not add uTilt to a guitar, it is tone suk.

Thanks for your comments and to each his/her own. I know there are always 'tone suck' comments on so many aspects of guitars. I personally think 99.9% of tone comes from ,the wood, the body construction, the pickups, the electrics, the amplifier and any effects processing - and of course most significantly 'the guitarist'. The other 0.1% from bridges, nuts, tilts etc are not a huge issue for me and in all likeliehood in a blind test I would never be able to tell the difference. But the beauty of music and guitars are that we are all different - stick with your shims and be happy with your tone. Rock on @scowell !

@@derekcunningham5747 I've got a "Big Apple" Strat from 1998 with this micro-tilt built into it. I used it to tweak my neck a bit years ago and I've never looked back. I think that tone suck argument is a weak one. My Big Apple remains one of my top guitars still.

Has there been any heel ski jump issues? A straight edge placed along the base of the heel with a full flush contact, and the heel not curving away from the straight edge towards its end. Thanks.

Hi, Not quite sure what you mean. It's a standard form of micro tilt and if fitted properly will have no problems. It's just a method of giving some fine adjustment to the neck angle and an effective alternative to installing shims. I've fitted to many guitars with no issues and have had no adverse comments from any customers buying a tilt kit from me. Not sure if this helps but hope so.

@@derekcunningham5747 Hi. I was just curious. I have followed a luthier for a number of years and he has had quite a few factory models with micro tilt and ski jump neck issues. If you look for his website article, it is haze guitars shimming and ski jumps. I have recently spent £1700 on a guitar that has no other option but to use its micro tilt, where a more precise heel cut would be expected at that price. Hope the info helps. I am not putting the method down in any way. I was justifiably curious of a users experience.

En Argentina se vende en ferreterías: "insertos de maderas" y tornillos/ prisioneros /gusanos, sin cabeza Allen. La pieza que va en el mástil podría ser una moneda pulida o rodaja de hierro. Está fácil para hacerlo ! Tengo pensado intentarlo!

You had the drill motor spinning in reverse. Cringeworthy. One really should be doing this with a bit more precision on a drill press.

Hi Doofwop, Merry Christmas - I hope you've had a lovely day. Many thanks for your constructive criticism as comments are always welcome. But I would like to offer a couple of comments in response. 1. The drill was most definitely NOT in reverse mode. Having reviewed the video I accept it does look like that, something I hadn't noticed before. It does take me back to me early days doing woodwork in school where we had to be careful with lathes as the 50Hz cycle of electricity would affect the lighting and could make the lathe appear to be stationary or spinning in the opposite direction. A fairly basic issue taught at school and which clearly is in play here. Had it been in reverse the forstner bit would simply not have cut. 2. Totally agree that using a drill press gives much more precision and I use a drill press when fitting micro tilts myself. I'm working on the basis that anyone who owns a drill press would as a matter of course use it. The video however was intended to enable anyone, including those who neither own or have access to a drill press, to be able to complete this fairly straightforward exercise using the basic tools available to most. It would not be worth the expense of buying a drill press, even a basic one, simply to fit a single micro tilt which is what many of my customers do. There is absolutely no need for a drill press to fit the neck disc and whilst fitting the t-nut does benefit from a drill press, the amount and depth of drilling can easily be achieved with the relevant due care and attention to ensure drilling is vertical. But your comments are much appreciated. Best wishes for 2024.

@doofwop what you are seeing is called the wagon-wheel effect. Watch the chuck as the drill speeds up.
