Thank you for the steady camera, quiet and polite manner of speaking and no horrible background music. Something from the gentle classical genre would have complimented this style of video. Your choice of nothing at all was a wonderful change. Thank you, thank you, thank you. From an accomplished American mechanic who has changed around a dozen of these boots and shafts just on my own vehicles. I wanted to see the split boot installation and the sticky boot title attracted my attention, as well as 63,955 others before me. Thumbs up, my friend.

Thanks for your comments.What I try to do is show how to carry out a repair as it is, no gimmicks or attempts to win Oscars, yes that may be thought by some as flat and uninteresting, but I feel that if it's music you want, switch on the radio.Thanks again for getting in touch.

After reading the installation instruction, I still not quite sure how to cut the boot to fit. This video clearly demonstrated how that was done. Thanks.

I am going to do this job this week. I was delighted to see you used my idea of plastic wrap to keep the new boot clean. If it lasts a few years I will be happy. Thank you for your time.

Thanks for getting in touch, main point is to keep the joint edges clean before applying the glue, and strong cable ties work just as well.

This is a good video, I use them on my car, they last about 2 and 1/2 years on my BMW which is exactly the same as a normal boot for my car as its heavy. I would say, when you do this, cleanliness is close to godliness as grease and glue are not best friends so make sure you keep everything clean.

There is a special tool, but I just pulled them as hard as I could then nipped them with pliers. It took a couple of tries but I managed it. (Cable ties do just as good a job)

Very very well done video, considering the corroded condition of the components. (Alliteration unintended :) I have just bought one of these for my SAAB Aero. Here in NZ my job should be easy.... our climate leaves vehicles just a little dusty underneath. Thanks for sharing. You have saved me a lot of instruction reading when the kit arrives.
@BOMS165 жыл бұрын
"considering the corroded condition of the components. " Yer, that sentence tells us all we need to know about you. Inexperienced with cars - so WYTF are you commenting? Your view is void, invalid, of no consequence. Why? Cos you don't know jack. Normal corrosion for / in Temperate climates. Rust occurs. Guessing maybe you live somewhere sunny? Yer, not much corrosion gonna happen to your car. Travel. Learn. Comment. Only then. Once knowledge is gained. NOOB. Great informative video.

This is a kool idea. And I know that there is glue that will hold rubber together. Because I have made O ring’s for hydraulic fittings on heavy equipment. But my thoughts are it’s to bad that there isn’t something that could be applied to the outside of the boot to make it one piece.
@justanotherboog34977 жыл бұрын
Im not tring to be a dickhead but the cv boot is the last thing you should be worried about , the road salt has everything rusting away, but you're video is good

Very good, well paced presentation. I especially appreciate the steady camera, good lighting, and lack of annoying music. I'm curious about the car. It looks rather "vintage" or is it that you simply live in a harsh environment?

I believe the axle or proper boot should be replaced instead of a split boot, however, one thing I noticed here is that the old grease could have been easily sprayed away with brake or carb cleaner, then pack new grease into the joint. This would ensure any grit, dirt, salt etc. is gone from inside the joint. I would also use some hose clamps, which are easier than these boot clamps. Also, the glue is a rubber weld compound, not a super glue.

Air jet with paraffin then white spirit solvent to rinse and dry then press in grease, can be done in situ , no need to dismantle.

Well good for you. Will you share all your views???!!!! This video is to show people how to use this particular kit. It isn't advising to buy nor is it selling this product. It just aids to help, cos this dude has done it before you, helping you to avoid error. Bell end. So STFU, comment elsewhere, perhaps on a "proper fix" video. C*ck.
@BOMS165 жыл бұрын
@@brianevolved2849 But that's not the point. If i wanted to know how to fit a NEW one, I would search for that thing. I searched for Stickyboot installation and got this AWESOME, HELPFUL, SPOT ON video. Now piss off and share elsewhere. What a knob, "do the job properly not hard". Its a VERY hard job, but you crack on mate. People. Idiots.

Well I did own the car for a further 2 years and it was fine.
@dan_69152 жыл бұрын
I think there some rubber elastic patches like ones for bike tire repair to apply over the glued line, to re enforce the repair.
@zacharia111111 жыл бұрын
Well that was a nightmare of a job. Firstly the "universal" boot wasn't universal and was not long enough and then the clips were of no use, ended up having to get proper jubilee clips, only then did the boot stay on.
@benbennit4 жыл бұрын
Good for an old merc. CV boots require the rear of the car to be stripped down usually.
@cndvd2 жыл бұрын
The problem with those “quick boots” is you cannot clamp the clamps tight enough, like from the factory. They end up loose, but if you can get it tight good for you. Better to just put a new shaft.
@dalbhraddan2 жыл бұрын
Correct, I ended up using strong cable ties.

l think l may do this but l read bad things about split boots ,even so , l like the easy way.
@dalbhraddan10 жыл бұрын
Loftur Thanks for your note. It is certainly a lot easier using split boots, and even IF they do not last as long it so much easier and quicker. Good luck Graham
@50842049 жыл бұрын
Loftur Hjalmarsson If you dont want to split the joint, use the one which goes over it via the plastic cone. It is a messy job (both sides of the boot gets greased), but it is as good as the new. Ive got one more than 5 years and thousands of miles. No concerns at all.
@ronandgerrygee8 жыл бұрын
good video but you do not show how to tighten up the bands,I had to buy hose clamps which can be tightened with a screw driver

I fitted one today = easy ! BUT HTF do one tighten the clips?Tthere is nothing shown in the instructions. I gave up and used two rings of soft wire and twisted the ends together to tighent each ring - a real Zimbabwe fix !!
@dalbhraddan10 жыл бұрын
Christopher Needless to say there is a tool which makes this easier, I managed to fit one with pliers but must admit the other side I used a heavy cable tie. Graham
@50842049 жыл бұрын
