After fitting the amazing VBAir front spring and Koni Shock comfort system we move to the rear to fit the complimenting semi-air set up.
This will give us a better ride height to match the 50mm lift to the front, improve stability under load and act as a basic self level system when we're parked.

Seen a few videos like this now on the bump stops if your gonna get the welder out why not just grind the whole thing off and weld the air bag plate mounting to the chassis that's what we did. Not critic just wondered what benefit there is to using the oem captive nut which is clearly shit.

Great video lads, the only think i would suggest, probably reinforce the chassis hit area, where the bag sits. You are compressing a great weight on a small area of the chassis , the spring leaf does it over 1 meter length, you may have a crack on the chassis sooner thank you think.

Hey Tattoo...I hear ya! But we are retaining the spring rather than replacing it so there will be some sharing of the load. Also the "bump stop"/ assister, the air spring is replacing, took and transferred the hits prior with no problems so assume all will be well. My build should come out light as well....famous last words.

just be aware that if the air suspension goes at any point in the future ,the ride is like riding on bricks , i speak from experience of being in an ambulance when it happens , luckily you still have the springs as well, to help .

Hey Stan, thanks for watching this one too. I'll bare that in mind but hopefully this'll be getting a lot less hammer than an ambulance. My mate Mad Mick has sympathetically converted an ambulance with about 300k on the clock, his is on full air at the rear which would sit hard if failed. Paul

Hi Paul and Vicky! Greeat vlogs guys, I’m looking at doing the same as you guys on the suspension, how is the lift achieved on the front? Are the Koni shocks longer?

Hi Neil, I went for the full kit on the front from VB Air on the reccomendation of using their "light" spring set up. It was reccomended by another facebook user and I have not been disappointed, it really feels as smooth as riding on air. The spring has given me a 50mm lift which gives the van a much better stance and the shock supplied in the VBair kit is a koni. I perhaps assumed the strut was longer but another user mentions it's the same length and can accommodate the extra length within its operation. The koni does make a world of difference though so perhaps glad I didn't just use a std strut with an extended coil. But if on a budget the Kilen spring and std shock would be worth researching and considering.

I am wondering why you need to rust treat a galvanised van? When I cut my various panels out, they were outside for a couple of years. Only slight rust on the edges. The rust did not spread across the panel at all. I could understand if your van was a sprinter.

Hey Carl, it does unfortunately spread, especially when you factor in several months of heavily salted roads and ingression. Those rear wheel arches are not sealed where they meet the body hence why many people find their internal sills awash. Take a look at my vlog on fitting a raised bed and see the rust I had to deal with behind the side door slide and my van has only covered 28k....that's a galvanised pannel. Undernieth there is very slight edge corrosion on many of the seams where they meet the load bed but spreading. Last year I welded 2 patches over holes on the sills of my friends 2012 Ducato Ambulance conversion. I believe prevension is better than the cure. I do admit though we are lucky compared to many Transit or Sprinter owners.
