Fitting Dynamic LED Side Indicators to my F54 Mini Clubman (and my Roadster !)

Lockdown wouldn't be Lockdown without a little box being sent to me by SMPS2012. This time it contains dynamic LED side indicators to my Mini JCW Clubman and also some new funky indicators for Ruby Roadster. Turned out to be super simple and the result are awesome !

on the R56 it's the metal spring clip you press to release the indicator from the scuttle.. and when you put it in.. you seat the plastic tab first and then depress the spring clip - you didn't lock the bulb holder into the the new indicator either!.. you need to insert it in fully (there will be 2 notches on it and give it a quarter turn).

@@PetrolPed thank you for modifying your car. I hate when people complain about small things on there cars. The manufacturer sells you the canvas you have to paint it to make it your own.

My father and I have lost count of the orders we’ve received from SMPS! Thank goodness they ship to NZ. There are four Mini’s in the family. Three have been de-chromed, taillights changed on two but just waiting to order the Union Flag taillights for our R53’s. I love what you can do with these cars!!!

That was a really great video but I was laughing all the way through watching your face when you were taking the bits off. Very brave to do in the cold with plastics don’t usually stay together.

Thats not snow if I could post a photo I'd show you how the snow up here is. Just had our friend the farmer come with his digger to clear some off the drive now we have a mound 2m tall sitting on about 800mm of snow base in the garden. My mini is still buried though. As for temperature a truck driver told me his truck showed -16 deg C as he pulled into the Petrol station today! Glad to see you didn't have to get your extensive tool kit out for the light installation. A nice simple mod.

Sooo first off thanks so much for doing this video- I ordered my smoked out lights for my JCW Clubbie and I was only able to figure out how to get the darn things off with this video- huge thanks! Now, super funny- my clubbie had to use the resistors- my blinkers went a little nuts after sporadically- 😂 So had to put them on to mellow them out.

Hi Sir Pete!! Cool video! I really like all the little customizable things you can do on your minis. It’s 7 degrees Fahrenheit today and we got 20 inches of snow over the weekend with another 6 to 8 inches forecasted for tonight!

Hey Mr PP on Ruby the roadster if I were you I would take those side scuttles off again and push the old light holder insert into the new light and lock it in place to make it waterproof and fitted like it was on the old sidelight because it isn’t waterproof behind that panel buddy👍

My last MINI got little touches like clear indicators and some blacked out de-chromed stuff largely because a friend did his learned what to do then did my one 😁. I’m too careful to the point I couldn’t do it as I’d never use enough force thinking I’ll break it. So I appreciate people doing it themselves as I’m useless at such things.

Tip.. always turn your wheels toward the camera for any shots of a car when stationary Pete. Tiny thing that makes so much difference . Lovely video and great touches to the mini’s

Hi Pete. Instead of using your fingers to get the indicators out I found it easier to slide a credit card or similar, under at the same place, to push the spring back. They then just lift out.

Well Pete my ocd kicked in when you did not clean the dirt off behind the indicators 😂🧽 I fitted these lights to my Mini last year and they do change the look of the car. Also you Peddlerz buy a beanie from Control and Shift I did and they are a great hat to keep your noggin warm in this weather👍 Next job to video on Ruby is to polish the front fog lamps 👍

Finally got around to doing this mod on my 22 JCW F54. FYI for any Peddlerz that read this and haven't done this mod yet... at the top of the JCW insert, on the back, where it's supposed to snap in at 2 points... those were basically melted together on my scuttles - they were not at all like shown in Pete's video. End result: I was able to do the mod, super easy, BUT... that front end of the insert is not secure - I can slide it back and forth a little. I'm going to super glue it to keep secure - should do the trick just fine.

Hey Pete I live in n.wales near to Sam they're a great company and very helpful and knowledgeable.... they do a gloss black ring for the airbag which sits perfectly over the chrome ring and a black decal which sits perfectly over the steering wheel logo....I could send you a pic on insta but once you have the steering wheel controls in gloss black these pieces are really the finishing touch. 👍🏻

You can always code out the bulb checks. No resistors needed. I coded out my sidemarkers on my LCI jcw Clubman when I put in leds because they also hyper-flashed.

Thanks for sharing this product and the install, I think I will get one for my F54 as well. It really looks sharp 👍 I see the link lists the part for F55/F56 but this will also work for the F54? *Edit* I managed to find the F54 version in there, will be ordering a set real soon.

did you not have to twist the bulb holer into the rear of the unit? - pretty sure this is what makes it waterproof and keeps it secure.. seems strange they would make it dangle there..

I swapped the rear indicators, reverse lights and number plate lights on my i30N as they were halogen bulbs and it's made the car look so much better when they're illuminated. However..... I'm on my second set of indicator bulbs as the first set went a bit "wibble"..... My fault for getting cheapo Ebay jobbies, I know. Touch wood, the new set seem to be ok (thank you Classic Car LED's)

I just wish they would make new cars with front indicators you can see in bright daylight ! as they are now in with main light,and covered with shiny plastic, you can easily see them, turning Left, or right !!!

Looks great Pete. Ps, don't ever damage the JCW Aerokit parts on Ruby as they are no longer available. Don't know why Mini have done this as I thought they had an obligation to support car spares for a good number of yrs.
